Man that pack near beginning: Ripken, Ryan, Dawson, Rose and Lynn In Actions, was Nice 👍🏼
Always fun to go back to my childhood looking at this older box breaks! Thank you
On July 30, 1980 JR Richards suffered a stroke. I was just a kid, a huge baseball fan and it rocked my world.
Could have been a mega star if he hadn’t of had it ! ☹️
Oh how I love the Cal rookie card!!! He’s my favorite player
At 13:23, you pulled 4 consecutive Steves (Yeager, Trout, Carlton, McCatty).
Thank you for this video! In 1982 I was 6 my brother was 9 and the lady at our local convenience store gave us (free of charge) an entire wax box! Why I have no idea. We split it, Great memories
gratz to all but especially to the 2 who got the Cal rookies and it was a great break -- thanks again for your time.
I think the curse of John Wathan has been officially lifted! Way to protect those Ripken's Mr. Wathan.
Baseball Oddities Dept.: Matt Alexander (17:08) is a player most fans have never heard of, but he spent his career primarily as a pinch-runner for the Oakland A's and Pittsburgh Pirates. Ed Farmer's (18:07) nickname was "Eatin' Ed". (I would've called him "Fanny".)
Fun break. I like the 82 Topps set a lot.
Ahh, the year I began collecting baseball cards. Gives me nice, warm and fuzzy memories of my childhood. Thanks!
That was an awesome break Erik. 2 Ripkens is sick. Thanks for doing this for us.
Really appreciate the commentary. Makes you feel like you're right there in the room with you. I was born in 80 and my 1st year collecting was 88 Topps. Still my favorite design ever. But 82 Topps is a close 2nd. Nice job!
Great video! 82 Topps one of my favorite sets. Got the Ripken rookie off eBay couple years ago.
Thanks for sharing!
i just love throwback thursdays. Thanks so much for doing more of these vids.
Nice break!! Awesome pulls and sick 2 Ripken rookies! Congratulations to the winners!😎💪🏽
Nice break. Love Ripken RC!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
I got your package! Thanks so so so much! A very generous return. I had kinda wanted that graded card from the other day and I'm glad you took note! I also forgot all about those freebies from months ago so that was a nice surprise too! Thanks again Erik! I'll have more for you soon I'm sure lol
Great video! I posted a video just earlier today opening a 1982 rack pack and got pretty much nothing but 51 commons.
Great video! Cards in GREAT shape 👍🏼 love this type of videos 👌🏼
Very nice! I was happy to get Cal in my 82 Fleer break also from the Exchange.
Need that Nolan Ryan and Cal ripken Jr rc
Good hit Darren
How did the gum stay so good looking? That’s crazy. Even unbroken.
You could barely get a piece that nice in 1982.
Ha ha George Brett box! Dang, 2 Ripken cards, amazing!! So many HoFers in that box, it was definitely loaded with a lot of great cards.
Well this was my prized possession....full set 1982 Topps. I traded/bought cards took months to complete but so happy as a 12 year old kid to complete it.
29:06 NBA 2-time NBA Champion Danny Ainge
I never knew he played baseball! Thanks
We associate Pete Rose with being the hit king of MLB.
Pete Rose is Not a Hofer, but is The Hit king and i Hope he elected to hall of fame,he is a Big Legend!
That is Dave Righetti's rookie, that card was worth a bit for a few minutes back in the 80s.
Very underrated card. I always loved the look of the card.
Great throwback Thursday opening!!
In 1982 I was 10 years old. My grandfather took me to a guys house and he had put together sets from opening packs of this year...and he bought me the full set for 8.00. It is what got me into cards. This is a great set....lots of hall of famers.....and this video brought back some memories. You are the MAN Mr.Jabs. What you are doing is worth it. Keep up the good work
Henderson was also known for his time with the Red Sox. He hit a big homerun against Donnie Moore (RIP) in the ALCS to get the Sox to the World Series. Donnie Moore later took his own life and it was speculated that the "Hendu" homer was a giant attribute
OMG! Wathan after Ripken! Crazy man, you got the best 2 cards of the set in the same pack!!!
You should make a reference to who was card #1 of that year. Topps usually gives that slot to the best player the year before. It'd be cool to own every #1 from all Topps years.
Excellent idea !
Remember coming back from the store with a stack of 1976 Topps packs in the summer, opening each pack looking for a Pete Rose or Reggie, & chewing & blowing a bubble. That gum was pretty good. Kids would stuff their mouths full of it. I was 13 & to any kid that was heaven. Still have those cards. Feel bad for kids today. Cards now $2-5 a pack.
Fun rip, it makes me want to get a box of this, it's my birth year and I've never opened up a pack.
Surprised to see Kent Hrbek only made 1 all star team. One year he came in 2nd in MVP voting but didn't make the all star team that year. The All Stars were Carew, Mattingly and Murray. Tough to beat them out.
Ah no Ricky again love watching you throwbacks to see Rickey Henderson but two Ripken's not a bad box... too bad Lee Smith you missed out
Hey I'm glad you got to Ripken Justin for throwback maybe like 91 or 92 Stadium Club
One of my favorite card designs of all time!
Great video! Would love to see 1984 Donruss in the near future.
Nice cards. Good going on the Ripkens. The 81 season was a farce because of the strike, the team with the best record (the Reds), did not even make the playoffs. Yes, Terry Francona is still keeping Brad Mills employed.
very cool to see this break. 2 Ripkens out of the box. very nice. and, fyi, Buck Martinez is the regular broadcaster on Blue Jays games up here. along with another former Jay, Pat Tabler!
I pulled 3 Bonds rookies out of one box of 87 topps last week and a Bo Jackson from the same box
awesome throw back thursday double the Ripkens double the fun.
Thanks for the 2018 set Jabs, got it in the mail today.
You’re welcome. Sorry it’s taken so long to reply to fan mail. It’s really piled up over the weeks.
1997 Fleer would be a good Throwback Thursday (if it meets the criteria of being a throwback set). David Ortiz RC sells for quite a bit and there are some really cool inserts that sell for quite a bit.
Those are some clean cards. Nice
Fantastic TBT!! Thanks
Awesome box Jabs..2 Ripken’s , very nice
Great box open Eric. When l started buying packs of baseball cards they were 5 cents a pack five cards per pack. 1965. Any Micky Manta card besides the one l would keep found it's way on the spokes of my bike. Whoops
I love your videos you made me want to get into baseball cards🙌🏻
You pull Steve Swisher cards quite often but never mention that it's current major leaguer Nick Swisher's dad.
Awesome rip.... very nice stuff
Tommy John should be a Hall of Famer
At 29:06, the first Topps card of one Danny Ainge, better known for his basketball skills than his baseball ones. He's the current GM of the Boston Celtics, one of the teams he played for in his NBA career. He hit all of two homers in his MLB career with the Blue Jays.
He was in the 1981 Topps Traded set as well.
@@montrealsports29 - I did not know that! Thanks for the info!
I had about 6 or 7 of the cal jr cards from topps that year. Plus from every other brand that year to
9:14 Nolan Ryan wasn't that low on K's that year, his average per game at that point was just over 7 K's per game; he pitched 21 games in 1981 and 140 is just a hair below the 150 that his career average might imply. If he had played 35 games, he might have had 233; so just a tad lower than before.
"Got another sticker of......this guy."....Killin' me man!
this 1982 Topps set is a Monster, because a Lot of color variations, including the Scarcest Variation Topps Blackless.
48 stickers with "Coming Soon" on the back were randomly inserted into early packs of 1982 Topps cards to promote the upcoming release of Topps Stickers.
Wow Tom Seaver right after the Buckner. Rip
7:32 That is a great name for a baseball player "Champ Summers" :)
And his bizarro version Chump Sammers
i bought a lot of 82 topps as a teen
if you loo at the Dave Kingman card you should notice that in 1977 he played for 4 different teams and in all 4 Divisions that year
The stickers were actually pretty cool. You could order the sticker book from Topps or buy them at the store and you would put the sticker in the book. I had all of them and looked forward to see what sticker I would get.
Wow!!! Awesome stuff.
I'd be much excited if i could find any boxes/packs from '75-'82 (i have the complete 1983 Topps set). Would have to shell out some big bucks though......My main interest though are '75--'80. Bill Madlock 4-time Batting Champion, not in the Hall of Fame, how many other guys have 4 or more batting titles and aren't in the HOF? (But he's not a HOF'er). Paul Householder LOL, if you're a fan of Rob Neyer's Big Book of Baseball Lineups, check out the Reds section and read what he said about him in '82..... Love your vids as always !
"HE GOT A RIPKEN!!!....and a Joel Youngblood sticker, but who cares about that."...Too funny!
that box was contained in a nice air conditioned temperature controlled room. that gum was pack fresh!
First Cal Ripken is at 9:25.
10:27 Finally left John Wathan defeated on the table 😂
9:25 and 22:25 for the Ripkens!
Nice Darren C!!!
Sweet John Wathan pulls !!
Good luck all thought this was live to start with lol
sweet break
Awesome break
Tommy John. Great career
I had opened boxes and boxes of this in the 80’s though unfortunately it’s OPC 😕 on the plus side, all of my hockey cards are OPC ! 😃
I can tell you that not all boxes like this included those stickers back in the day. I used to buy two boxes like these every year from a wholesale house, and I got NO stickers in the packs that I opened up.
Pulled the best card twice. This balances out the dud boxes that sometimes happen.
Luv the Topps 1982 packs
The Ozzie Smith card is cool but the O-Pee-Chee version where the team is the 'Cardinals' is way better.
Very nice, congrats to the owners
Keep an eye out for the blackless errors which are missing the signature on the front (basic cards only, not in action or all stars).
Carlton Fisk in action was my favorite card from that year just a cool looking card
The sad thing about seeing these is that I had 4 complete sets from this year that I bought new as a kid. I went to school and came home and found all my cards had been destroyed by my mother. She poured a gallon on tea down in them for no reason. I have no idea why she did it to this day... still wouldn't give me a answer why.
Nice Biff Pocoroba card
Ron Hassey caught 2 perfect games. One for Cleveland Indians and the other was the Dodgers. The only man to do this in both leagues.
Wathan protecting Ripkens.
Steve Braun card is pretty good. Mint state 10 is 85¢
I really like 82 Topps!
Love Topps 1982!!!
Love that cal Ripken jr rookie card
The Nolan Ryan as well in psa 10 is over a 500$ card
RIP Billy bucks. Great player.
If Ripken had come up to the Orioles a year earlier (& in the 1981 Donruss set) you’d have 126 of them right next to those Wathan cards! 🤔 Even though most people look at the ‘81 Donruss (and ‘81 Fleer) as garbage the Donruss complete set should be at least $100 because it was unquestionably the most difficult set to complete due to the poor correlation release. You could open 6 boxes and still need 150 cards to complete the set.
Darren does pretty well for himself in these
Nice set
