The reason why it seems harmless is because it swallowed something. When snake swallow a large meal they becomes tired & choose to rest in a quiet cool place for it to digest. This can take weeks

I've actually seen much bigger ones that I could not go very close to it until the community had to kill it and perform traditional rites since it was feeding on people's goats continually, but no record of it ever harming anyone, including strangers.
