Please don’t get me wrong…. I love watching Garden Answers, but I can relate more to your yard and gardening style. It’s more in the prospective of a normal homeowner’s yard-garden. Thank you for sharing and giving me ideas to add to our garden in the spring🌻🌻
I love Garden Answer as well and look forward to their videos every single day. I take sections of Laura's garden and can apply them to my much smaller garden. I think it's more about combining color, texture, shape and size. Laura has taught me SO much but I understand what you are saying. I love Eric and Christopher's garden. I'm always amazed how many plant names they remember. It's not easy.
I ditto your comment. I have learned so much from Laura and love watching her videos. You take what you can from her (which is a lot) but what makes her most liked is her personality. I actually met her in Mackinac Island, MI one year and she is just as down to earth in person. But as you mentioned, Grow 4 Me 5b are very relatable for us “normal gardeners” and I believe those who are very experienced gardeners as well. Loved this comment.
We so enjoy your videos! You rank right up there with Laura from Garden Answer, Jenny from Creekside and Danielle from Northlawn Gardens. Danielle is spectacular with her cut flowers. Thanks so much for the time you put in to your gardens and videos! Great plant combinations!
Oh guys, what heartbreak from all the deer damage. I moved into town this year and I see a lot of squirrels a groundhog, voles and or moles, crows and a ton of birds. I had just gotten my garden of 10 years figured out and now I need to figure out prevention for my new garden. Thank you for sharing, I adore it❤ Have a wonderful day.
You asked..I vote no on the window box. I was so excited to find you here this morning and this tour was awesome! I learn something each time. Beautiful fall color! Our deer fence is the only reason we can have our garden, particularly arborvitae.
Dang 🦌! I had been having the same problem and after seeing Steph from Hook & Rooted add the wireless deer fence, I was desperate and tried. A few nights after adding them to the landscape I got a notification from our WYSE camera at our shed. Low and behold we caught the deer getting a little zap and running off. I forwarded to Steph via a DM & she contacted me and used it on a follow up video. Just an idea it’s helped me tremendously.
It took me at least double time to view your tour video 😍 because I'd pause to look up a shrub or tree to see if I could grow it. You certainly found unusual ones. (I'm in Minneapolis, zone 4 b.) Talk about a rabbit hole 🐇 🕳️ Your lawn is stunning! I have lawn envy.
I really enjoyed the fall garden tour. Even the deer pressure can’t detract from the beauty of your garden. You have a gorgeous fall tree borrowed view behind the berm.
I would love to see you two cuties doing a video of holiday decorations inside of your house after you are done with the outside garden. I bet it would be so so so beautiful!!!
Team window box!! Black, modern and planted with all the same color for non messy looking impact. You guys have impeccable taste so whatever is done is always stunning. Thank you for the beautiful tour 🌿💚
A great tour and some great laughs. You've given me lots to think about. I'm trying to only plant native plants in my new garden here in Japan, but this was really interesting.
Great tour! Y’all are my fav and you’re gardens are just gorgeous! You both are very talented and have great taste! Yes to the window box if kept very simple:)
Fantastic garden tour. The fall foliage is spectacular beautiful. I haven’t been a subscriber very long but so glad I found your channel as you share the good and not so good things that happen in one’s garden. Enjoy your day everyone. California zone 9b here.
I have a lot of deer damage in my garden every year as well and tried many different products with little to no success. Last year, I came across a mix on Pinterest and it is the only thing that has worked for me. I mix an egg, oil, a little milk, and water and whisk it together and add it to a spray bottle. On our security cameras we see the deer in our yard and they just walk on by. Its incredible and it really doesn't smell like other products.
Beautiful tour, thanks so much. We have deer pressure here too. When we moved here 10 years ago, there were no deer in town. Now it’s bad, my Hosta bed became a salad bar and my Little Quickfires, dessert. I can’t do much about the Quickfires given their location out front but we stopped the bar. We sunk 6ft rebar in the ground and tied black bird netting to it. We made sure the netting went right to the ground as they will crawl under it if enough room. We back onto bush so lined the bottom with logs and so far success. Now if only slugs would move on! 🇨🇦❄️🇨🇦
@@growformegardeningTheir population seems to be going up everywhere...fewer hunters ( my hubby is one ) lack of predators and milder winters. Our major predator here is when they become roadkill. There’s a town in Manitoba called Pinawa that basically the deer capital of Canada. The deer are so tame and have taken over to the point of crawling under decks to keep cool. Couldn’t believe my eyes! I tried all the sprays etc, but couldn’t stand the smell myself so tried the “ poor man’s fence” I described above. So far so good. The best of luck guys! ❄️🇨🇦❄️
We have a forest on 1 side of us and a corn field on the other, so we have a lot of deer pressure as well as bears and other critters coming into the yard. We put up Ring cameras a year ago, and so far the announcements and lights have scared them all away. No telling how long this will work, and we don't have neighbors to worry about the cameras bothering, but so far so good. And the awareness of all activity out there has been quite interesting.
Nice to see the view at the woods facing the back of the house. I can see why you get so many deer. If I was a deer, I I would want to hang out in your yard and not your neighbors with their barren yards. That little Tater tot always makes me smile. Your grasses are standouts!
Eric, Christopher loved your October garden tour. The deer have been vicious this year even eating my fall daisy mums which they have never done before. Don't put the hydrangea dried flowers around your roses since they had spider mites and they could infect your roses next year. Looking forward to a few more garden tours before winter. Love you guys your an inspiration to us all.
I'll give it to you guys. You're both taking the deer damage like champs!!!! Remaining very positive ❤. I live near Raleigh. An NC State retired professor bred the Ruby Falls weeping Redbud and Golden Falls (Jim Putnam, CZcams in Raleigh has 'Golden Falls' and keeps it staked still after several years otherwise it may collapse slightly and become more contorted) weeping and several others. Keep up the great work. I love the diversity of plants you have in your garden. 😊
Stunning, gentlemen, just stunning. Its a shame about the deer, but everything is still beautiful. Keep rotating your sprays, sprinkle garlic powder, try burning herbs in your fire pit, and even move wind chimes ( or clusters of bells) around your garden. Never allow the deer to get used to any of your preventative measures. For us, besides everything I just mentioned, we’ve been feeding our deer in a meadow clearing away from our house ( we have 40 acres) and I haven’t had any problems with them this year. But, I have also double fenced my vegetable garden, and plant a ton of things they don’t enjoy. We’ll see if they find the Little Quick Fires I planted a month ago. 😝
Your both right! One's English and one's American pronunciation. Gertrude's brother was a minister and his friend was Robert Louis Stevenson. Who borrowed his friends last name for his book. It reminds me which guy was the good guy.😂 so now you don't have to fight about it.

Loved the October tour! Saddened about the deer pressure though! I have to say, you guys handled the damage WAY better than I do! My husband always says “What do you expect when you offer them up the grand buffet?”! As noted, I also encounter deer pressure, but I tried something new this year that a golf course uses locally. I used my first application in the Spring of this year, Milorganite (sold at any big box store like Lowes/Home Depot). It does not claim to work on their packaging as a deer repellent (because that isn’t the “purpose” of the product), but after just one application it lessened the hoof traffic this summer. I do believe it is wearing off and I will be applying the late Fall application this month (NY-Cool season application). The deer came through two nights ago and got to my Little Quick Fire’s and my Crown Princess Margareta David Austin Rose. It is also a gentle all-purpose slow release fertilizer for the lawn/flower beds! Worth an application to test it out! I have tried a bunch of products, also use Plantskydd (but too expensive to use as much as needed)….so I switch products quite often. Enjoy the winter slumber and already looking forward to seeing your gardens in the Spring! Thank you for the great content!

Deer and rabbits annihilated my garden this year… liquid fence was also a dud for me as well 😢. I’m trying to figure out what to do for next year. Thanks for the tour!
Unless I missed something in the tour, I didn't see any rhododendrons in your garden, and I'm wondering why. Is it because you don't have much shade yet, with your trees being so young? (There are varieties that can take full sun in northern climates.) Or do you have alkaline soil? Or don't you like them (hard to imagine)? There are many varieties that are hardy in zone 5. In addition to being flowering shrubs, they're evergreen and need very little maintenance. I think they'd fit very well with your style of garden. Something you've just overlooked, perhaps?
You know it isn't Eric's favorite plant. They are very common in our area and the bloom time is so short. I found one this summer and popped it in. We shall see how it does for us!
Have you thought about installing a fence in the back to connect with the sides? Perhaps one that disappears if you wanted to enjoy that gorgeous backdrop?
So beautiful! The deer have been feasting on all of my hydrangeas. They seem to prefer my limelight right now. Over the summer they ate all of my Incrediball and Invincibelle. It’s super frustrating.
It’s Halloween 🎃 and first ❄️❄️❄️ of the season here in Northern Illinois. I planted tulip bulbs in my clay pots, but haven’t brought them into the garage yet. Will they be okay?! Are you planning to mow the lawn one last time? I agree with one of the comments that your yard is more relatable to those if us with a subdivision sized yard. We’re in .4 acres, started in 2022 and always find your garden such an inspiration! When did you start your garden? Anne from 5B👩🏻🌾
NO window box. They are sooooo much work. My husband talked me into two huge window boxes. I loved them for a few years but as I age, they are too much extra work each year. Plus, I need to sand and paint them every spring.
Does your apple tree have fireblight?? It looked like it in the brief moment you talked about it. I hope it doesn’t but if it does, you may want to consider removing it asap.
Hi, guys. Love the berm. Did you place the soil and then wait to plant it, or plant straight away, or take another approach?we’re considering adding a berm and would like your advice.
The berm was here when we arrived. I think the original land developers built it up to encourage drainage. If we were doing our own berm we would probably plant right away to get the roots locking the soil in!

We just posted a video of deadheading the limelights...in Spring Eric will do the real in depth pruning.
Have you thought about installing a fence in the back to connect with the sides? Perhaps one that disappears if you wanted to enjoy that gorgeous backdrop?
We are going to try a fishing line fence across the back for the winter
I vote no window box. Less busy that way.
Noted!
So beautiful! The deer have been feasting on all of my hydrangeas. They seem to prefer my limelight right now. Over the summer they ate all of my Incrediball and Invincibelle. It’s super frustrating.
Isn't it annoying how their taste changes
Your Garden is simply lovely, despite the woodland creatures enjoyment of it.❤❤😊 2:30
Thank you!!! Those boogers were pretty awful.
We started in 2018 when we built our house actually. Thank you for watching!
Insulate your rockin playin the blues salvia and it might come back -mine did
That's not a bad idea.
No window box 😀

Would love to get together sometime as we are near each other! Been doing CZcams for 2 years here in CT
@@letstalkgardeningwithrobin How fun! Are you close to White Flower Farm?
@@growformegardeningso close about 15 minutes. We could meet for lunch in Litchfield or maybe Great Barrington
What are the sizes of the planters by the garage? I love Ageratum. As always the garden is looking great.
They are 26" wide and 26" high!
@@growformegardening nice. Thanks.
NO window box. They are sooooo much work. My husband talked me into two huge window boxes. I loved them for a few years but as I age, they are too much extra work each year. Plus, I need to sand and paint them every spring.
That makes sense. If we got one I think we would do some kind of vinyl or other no maintenance material... we shall see!
Love your garden guys!! Quick question if you would indulge me,... how deep are the garden beds? I'm trying to figure out how much sod I should pull.
They vary... but we always aim for 6 feet mininum. In the hydrangea room it is only 4 feet but eventually it will be 5 feet as they grow.
Does your apple tree have fireblight?? It looked like it in the brief moment you talked about it. I hope it doesn’t but if it does, you may want to consider removing it asap.
I am going to cut it down. We don’t maintain them up on the berm so it’s not worth trying to save it
It’s going tomorrow
Thanks.
I found a weeping norway spruce in September on a road trip. How do you find the growth rate on yours? Great tour. Thank you!
Ours sat for a year and now it is growing FAST
@@growformegardening that is exciting. Thank you! I marked the pole I am training it on when I planted it.
What is the name of the huge grass that is yellow in the back burm?
That is the same Northwind grass...for some reason it is more yellow already
Do you bring in your garden accessories/art for the winter?
Nope. We really try to choose items that can stay put... who needs one more chore!
Beautiful tour. Vote no for window box…Your house screams tidy and classic. Boxes would be too cottagey.
Good point
Naw...Mr Mantis is eating another insect.
That's what we thought
vote no window box... high maintenance, and a stepping stone for critters such as raccoons, mice, and birds that nest and poop everywhere. UGH!
Haha I hadn’t thought of that
Did you know that Praying Mantis eat Hummingbirds? They catch and hold with their legs and suck out the brain. Poor birds
Mother Nature is rough!
