- Some of you knew a lovely Scottish guy called STAN GETTY, others will not have heard of him. Stan followed me in my musical journey for quite some time, but last December/early January this year, was the last time I heard from him. I thought perhaps at first he may be on holiday, then I thought maybe he is ill. But now I am fearing the worse. So even though the lyrics to "Love Hurts" are not appertaining to him fully, I want you to imagine that with Stan in mind, we are "talking" about friendship instead, because to me at least, he really WAS a good friend. He also was a kind of lucky mascot because my views often jumped way above what I often hoped for. So I am dedicating this song to dear Stan. He always called me "Foxy" or "Foxy Lady".
Now to the song itself, 'Love Hurts' has been performed/recorded by many artists, notably for myself, by Cher and Elaine Paige. Cher needs no intro but Elaine Paige is a British singer and actress and has played the Leading Lady in many West End musicals.

Such a beautiful dedication to our beloved gentlemen dear Stan Getty. How I dearly miss this fine gentlemen and his keen sense of humor. Every comment to he ever wrote was a virtual treat to read, infused with an incredible sense of humor. I think that he will be dearly missed by many here. And such a truly fitting song to dedicate to our wonderful friend, which I'm sure that he will love when he hears this, where ever he may be. Love Hurts has a long history as a song. Although you've listed both the performances by Cher and Elaine Paige the song was actually written by an American writer by the name of Boudleaux Bryant and was first introduced to the public in 1960 by, believe it or not, The Everly Brothers. Yet, the version of Love Hurts that I grew up with is the one performed and made famous by the Scottish group known as Nazareth in 1974. I remember this rock anthem brazing night and day on the radio back in the day. This was a delightful version of this massive hit dear Diane that you've chosen to sing for all of us. It's truly amazing how you can effortlessly sing any genre of music as if that were the area you were trained to sing in. Bravo for another wonderful performance that has all of us begging for more. Big like.
Yes, I mentioned the writer's name in my notes, and although I mentioned the two female singers of this song, I have read about the other artists who have performed it. I loved the Everlys but I was not too enamoured by their version. I thought it was a little tame but at the same time have to say that it is always interesting and often very enjoyable to hear a song performed in different styles.
I think you are totally correct that many here on YT will miss our Stan. He was so poetic, and he often did "work beyond just listening and commenting", because he worked out "Top Ten" lists for me, and ratings according to viewing numbers etc. I don't really like talking about him in the past tense, but after four months of not hearing anything from him, and although I cannot speak for anyone else, I feel he has departed now. So very sad, but inevitable in the end. I have tried to find out how to contact him if he WAS still around, but to no avail.
On a much happier note, thank you dearest friend for your touching, moving and warming compliments on my rendtion of "Love Hurts". You write such endearing things and am particularly taken up with the bit about singing any genre. But very "poppy" songs are just not for me, although I will tackle many others!
