  • Are you curious about cloth diapering, but don’t know where to start? Not to worry! Learn everything you need to know in my step-by-step Cloth Diapering for Beginners series!
    Did you know that you can buy used or preloved cloth diapers to save on cost (or to get that super cute retired print from your favorite brand)? Buying used diapers is also a great way to extend the life of a diaper and to be even more environmentally friendly by buying used versus new. Before using preloved diapers on your little one, you’ll want to be sure they’re stripped of any build up and are fully sanitized. In this video, I share how we strip and sanitize our used diapers to get them on baby’s bum ASAP!

    My baby decided to nap for a decent amount of time today, so I've sat and binged all your videos. SO HELPFUL! I've been trying to find answers, unsuccessfully, to pretty much every topic you've covered. One question though, maybe I missed it in the video.. Washing is every 2 days, but how often do you sanitize?? Thanks so much for all the helpful videos!

      Thanks so much for watching! I love the good naps. :) I only do the mighty bubbles wash every few months or so if I’m noticing build up. Avoid doing multiple bleach washes as they are harsh on the diapers (like other clothing).

    Does the bleach not discolor the diapers? Also, how often do you sanitize your baby’s cloth diapers? Or is sanitation only done before first use?

    • @PohaiNuuhiwa
      @PohaiNuuhiwa  Před 3 lety +4

      Thank you so much for watching! I have read that bleach is not good for sanitizing bamboo/cotton material (use Oxiclean there), but it does not discolor cotton or hemp materials. We sanitized used diapers once when we got them, and once when baby had thrush in the mouth (yeast infection that we did not want to spread to private areas). Other than that you donʻt need to sanitize a lot, and do not want, as the bleach can be hard on the materials.

    I just got a set of used diapers and they came to me with a very strong odor...couldn't tell if it was poo or pee? Maybe both? Otherwise they look very new and white....Im going to try this and I'm hopeful it will help! Thank you so much for posting this!!

    Aloha! I live on the big island. Would you be selling your cloth diapers when Mamo no longer needs them? We are expecting our little one in june and we want to take a shot at EC as well as use cloth diapers.

      @PohaiNuuhiwa  Před 3 lety +5

      Aloha Jeʻanie! Congratulations on expecting! Weʻll likely keep them for (hopefully) a next child, which will save us even more $$$, so sorry! But, I have semi-secret that I am soooo excited about. Iʻll be starting my own cloth diapering brand/line in June (hopefully sooner) all focused on Native Hawaiian mea, moʻolelo and culture! If that would be something youʻd be interested in, please follow @kaleimamo and @pohainuuhiwa on instagram! Iʻll be posting more there. In the meantime, I highly recommend any of the diapers I talk about in my video. SO SO excited for your cloth diapering and EC journey ahead with baby!

    Can you sanitize first and then bleach second? If not what are the downsides?

    • @PohaiNuuhiwa
      @PohaiNuuhiwa  Před 2 lety

      Thanks so much for watching! I would strip diapers to remove any build up from soap or soil, then sanitize by doing a bleach wash. Stripping gets rid of the build up first, then sanitizing disinfects diapers so it’s clean for your baby’s use!

      Cloth diapers are being used to avoid accidents, other than that parents have to pay attention to baby's signals. I'm not a mom, but I would definitely try this method.
