Still confused? What can I help clarify for you about pricing your work?
I have a question - What is the best way to calculate use cost for gear? Like is there a good solid percentage to use or something else? I greatly loved this video and will be referencing it more and just yesterday I bought the Budget & Pricing guide from you and Chris. Looking forward to watching the video with it this weekend!!!!
What I would want to know about is properly licensing your images. Not an agency or stock photo site or anything, just self-licensing from my own site.
@@keybladeoflight7 I like to create gear packages . Like a tier 1,2,3 type thing. Tier 1 is a smaller bundle of gear and a lower flat rate and the price would increase per tier. Does that make sense?
@@tes2117 Licensing depends on a few things. The length of time they're licensing it, the platform it's being used on, and the exclusivity. All of these will affect the price!
Would love to see a video on negotiations with different types of clients? Always have wondered about the right way and if maybe sometimes I fold to easily to get the job.
Could you create a playlist with all your business related videos? đ itâd be a great help!
Great idea!
EVERY photographer in the world should watch this. đ Love your message about everyone working together to keep the industry rates at a place where we can all thrive and build a sustainable career.
Found this so interesting! I love how all of these extend to pricing services as a content creator too! Especially educating your client and negotiating being normal!
Thanks for this Lizzie! This is something Iâm always assessing myself on ⊠I have a full time ânormalâ job and work photography on the side hoping to build it up, this is a nice road map and good general way of approaching things! Thanks đđŒ
I think this is the perfect way to start charging what you're worth!
I've also got a ''normal'' job for 32 hours a week which I can pay all me expenses with. Everything I earn with photography is extra. If someone thinks I'm to expensive I'll let them go. The upcoming 3 months I'm packed with bookings and earn more with photography then with my ''normal'' job
I'm mostly doing event photography and both incomes combined I earn 6k per month the upcoming 3 months. LOVE IT!
love your new vibe and quality of videos lately! Great quality info as always.
This is the video I've been looking for since 2020. Easiest breakdown I've ever watched.
Thank you, Lizzie
I'v struggled so much to create the price. This video and the resources help me so much. Thank you LP. x
these types of videos help WAY too much! I'll take the sting with the direction any day! thank you for this!
Thanks for the video! Iâve been researching pricing of other photographers in my area, and I just had my first person ask me to take their family portraits as a paid gig, so this was perfect timing!
Iâve gotten so much from your videos in just a few days. So awesome. This video was super helpful!
This was so helpful! I have three meetings with potential clients today (almost can't believe I have three in one day) and spent most of my day yesterday wondering if a) the number I'm thinking is too high or b) the number I'm thinking is too low. This helped me settle my concerns. Thanks Lizzie!
So how'd it go?
Love all this info here, super insightful!
Thanks for sharing this one. Love it. đ wanna learn this one.
Tysm for the guidance Lizzie â€ïžđ
Really solid video Lizzie, thank you!
Thank you so much for such an informative videoâ€đ i enjoyed it so much and learnt a lot that I subscribed and liked the video before it ended
LIZZIE! Thank you, thank you for this! It was super helpful! đȘđŒ

100% agreed! Great video!!
Thank you for making one of these!!! đđœđđœ
Now time to figure out how to properly call myself a business
Thank you for this video. I came up with my own way of pricing for my clients and been working out pretty well. I just happen to see this and out of my curiosity i watched it... I wanted to see if my way validates my methods... and sure enough... IT DID!! So weird how you and your hubby came about with this and I came up with the "same exact" way of thinking hahaha This just puts me in the right direction :)
Oncredibly helpful, thanks Lizzie
You said "applicable" correctly! Yay! I'm subscribing just for that. Nice channel. Great content.
Thanks for the encouragement
Thank you for sharing!! Learned a lot from this video
I charge based on time and based on the style of photography. Time is the most important thing in our lives. Make sure you feel as if your time was well compensated for.
That's a very interesting video! Tahnk you Lizzie!
Very helpful! Thank you đđŸ
Those tips are helpful for all freelancers and self- employed people
Ah, man! Lizzie! Even big companies are guilty of the pricing foibles you mention! I used to work for a printing company who were so worried aboutut not getting jobs from clientsthat they undercut their own costs so much that they could never recover once they had locked that client in. The client always wanted the lowball and so they never became a PROFITABLE client, just one who ran business through the system. Such good insight!
great pointers.... ty
I literally couldn't figure out just how much to charge since I'm pretty new at this business. I'm glad I could learn this from a familiar face. Thank you so much! đđ»
Thanks lizzie â€ïžâđ„ u and Chris â€ïžâđ„â€ïžâđ„â€ïž
THANK YOU!
Dope video!!
I watched this while compiling information to build a business and thought, "she's cool". You deliver the real real.
Thanks for this. Ive had some friends reach out about doing promo photos for them after shooting a local concert.
Some trouble I'm having with not just price but contracts, creating and sharing a portfolio other than Instagram and Behance.
Helpful thank you
Thanks
SOLID video and informartion
Great video editing
Loved that thumbnail with the Philippine peso bills â€ïž
Great video
Fantastic Video! bThank you! :) So are you using the A7c for photos and A7sIII for video?
11:11 yr cat so cute..đ„°
w vid really helpful
Great video with awesome information. Just one question: Was that Ana De Arias at the 5:46 mark?
Lizzie, this video is super insightful! Thanks so much for this! Your cat in the back....đ
I would say the first thing you must determine is how much money you need...the same as you would when applying for a 9-5 job.
Calculate: ((Annual Cost of Doing Business /number of jobs you expect to do in the year)+ Expenses and Costs for Each Job + Hourly contractor wage for yourself for each job ) + Sales Tax percentage + 40% for Federal self-employment and income Taxes + whatever percent for state taxes.
First figure out how much you need just to keep the lights on, keep the taxman happy, and pay your personal bills....per job (because there are only so many jobs you can do in a year. That's how much money you need. Then determine if you're good enough to charge that much, or whether you're selling the right product, or whether you're selling to the right market.
I thought the cat was a "dead cat"... and then I saw it move and thought it was a prank... LOL. What a cute - real alive - cat. I have since brightened my screen. LOL
Hi Lizzie, I noticed that most CZcamsrs pay their video editors a little. Some pay $150 per video. I come from a editing commercial background, where editors would charge more than $500 per day.
In your experience, what is a usual and appropriate rate for editing CZcams videos when you have years of professional experience? More reaction videos, fast-paced, a lot of zoom ins , cuts and simple effects. With a 4-day turn around. I don't like to charge per hour, it can get a bit messy at times. So looking to charge flat rates (per video) with a solid contract in place (limit of 2 revisions), or day rates. But with day rates it can get really pricey. Most CZcamsrs won't pay 1k or more per video once or twice a week, which is why I am having a hard time figuring how to charge, since I mainly relied on day rates for many years. Would appreciate some advice, thanks!
Do you know if there is a website like ppa for filmmakers?
Not to detract from the video topic, but I couldn't stop staring at your necklace. Would you mind sharing where it's from, Lizzie? It's absolutely stunning!
Hi Lizzle I'm confused on how to price photos package. Please help!!!
Hi! I wanna set price for my services, but I donât want to charge hourly. How to present this approach to clients?
Do one with videography also, again! 1-2 crew
So for weddings I never thought to do a certain number of photos I just give them what I thought would be the best out of all the photos that Iâve taken is that a cool route to go or should I limit how many photos that the client should get for a wedding?
I don't actually photoshoot weddings but I think you should have maybe make bare minimum count (and tell how many there will be) of photos and then some extra if needed
Under promise and over deliver! Agree on a set amount and if you want to deliver more then they'll be super grateful!
Love that 50 pesos cash for the thumbnail
NGL, I hit the Subscribe button as soon as I saw the kitty!!! :p
Kitty â€
I love your videos definitely hate all the ads that come with them⊠some of us are paying for CZcams premium for a reasonâŠ
If you are bitching about ads then you shouldnt be here bc you dont understand how it works. Ads are revenue and if you are wanting ppl to succeed they need to have ads on the videos. Its literally a MUST.
Are those Philippine pesos in the thumbnail?
Hey Lizzie, do you think one should have a website or is it enough to have social media + online portfolio on a platform like Behance or something?
Website, why, because they are only focused on you. Social media and Behance has too many distractions
I've just started my business and I have been struggling with pricing of shoots for days now. This helps so much, thank you!!
In the thumbnail, what was the currency of the money that you are holding, it kinda looks like Philippines Peso bills...
âHope you had your pen and notebook out for that oneââŠas Iâm sitting here with it in handâŠhow did she knowâŠ
I dont know if just me but... Are you using Philippine pesos for your thumbnail maam lizzie... by the why love this vids helps me a lot pricing my client pls do more!!!
I love you and I love your work. Only one request. Make your titles longer. I read slow lol.
I always have a fear of raising prices. Any advice? My real estate competition here is already about 1/2 or 3/4 of what I charge. They start at $75 for home photos. My market is overall pretty cheap - we do about 35 homes a week and I've been in business for 8 years, full-service media provider.
No one ever mentions Image Licensing Fees (for commercial clients)
I wish I would have seen this before setting my prices for my first year of actively pursuing paying clients. I feel I entered too low, as you said, to just get clients.
Ya but its a double edged sword. Depends where you are bc ppl are hurting right now. Cost of living is so fucked up right now it can be hard to find clients able to afford photoshoots during a huge down time for the economy.
"probably charging too little"... yet criticised every-time your rates are liveable đ© gotta love this industry
Like she said... it also depends on the quality of your work, you have to be honest with yourself.
Here in Philippines NEW PHOTOGRAPHERS Lowballs their rates. starting at 10 to 20 dollars. it is hard to price here in our country
I sold about 30 prints at $15 a piece last year. Its a starting priceâŠ
Anybody can answer a quick question about charging a baby shower? My rates are out of this world because I donât know to charge. 200 per hour photoshoot with maximum of 50 images? Is that bad? How do you charge?
I know this is random but i just want to ask why you have Philippines money in your thumbnail image. Haha!
Iâm a new photographer, got my camera around a month ago and have spent hoursss on CZcams educating myself. Also going out every day and taking photo, Iâm not exaggerating, I practice every day because I love it so much! Iâve done a couple free shoots for my friends and they loves the photos. I got an inquiry on instagram from a person I know of, but I donât know them well. They wanted to book a shoot with me including their horse and dog and asked how much I would charge. I gave them a price of $100. I felt like this price was justified as Iâve spent $1000s on my camera and just bought a new lens. Well, the client ghosted me.
Iâm not sure what to do, Iâd love to do the photo shoot with them. But I donât want to do it for free.
Any advice?
$100 imo would be to little because not only youâre working with the person, you have to work with the horse trying to make sure the two subjects come out good! Ask for a deposit so you know theyâre serious!
Supper movie you look awesome
pack for adv work, in my case, not have sence
31k? Wow!
Wait! Am i seeing Philippine peso bills in the Thumbnail?
Are those philippine pesos in your thumbnail? Im confused đ€
Why were you holding and biting Philippine peso bills tho?
The way I do it, curious if this is a good way...
I have a base shooting rate for the day. No photos are incl in this.
The client gets to select which photos they want & how many they want.
That way, I give them the option to choose the best photos for their need. In the end, instead of saying 40-60 photos, the client chooses how many they want. Each photo they choose is individually charged. So, it could be more or less.
PROS / CONS
- You don't have to edit photo the client doesn't want or wont end up using, making them feel as though its a waste of money.
- The can end up selecting less photos than desired, but with the base rate, its not an issue as you've been paid your rate
- The can end up selecting more photos, making more $$$
***BUT,
No one also mentions anything about Image Licensing Fees (for commercial clients)

Hi Lizzie, the housing market is exploding in my area and I'm very interested in trying to get into real estate photography. About my only experience is taking photos of my kids in sports. I have a Nikon 7200, but I am lost when it comes to settings for this camera. Any recommendations for other equipment like a wide angle lens for this camera? Thank you!
Hey Duck! A 16 mm full frame equivalent is what youâre looking for, so for your camera youâll want something like a 10-22 mm. đ
@@REPMC Thank you!
Iâve been doing it about 7 yrs I canât even get ppl to pay 50$ so I canât get anyone to do pics except my kids smh not worth the trouble imo đ
Are you holding Philippine peso at your thumbnail?
I just realized your thumbnail's currency is Philippine Peso đ€Ż
You have peso bills in your thumbnail, Just curious how hehe
