  • Saving doesn’t come naturally to most of us. When you’re young, it’s especially hard to grasp the real value of money. You might watch your friends blow lots of cash on new cellphones, luxury handbags, or stylish cars; they may also live beyond their means with credit. “Young invincible” might feel like they have no reason to save their money because all of their needs are met. In other words, why not live life to the fullest while they can?
However, once you leave college and face the real world, you will quickly begin to realize how difficult it is to earn money. You will also learn how unpredictable life can be. Without savings, it’s hard to live a stable life as you get older. People who start saving when they are young put themselves at an enormous advantage as life goes on.
Today, I am going to give you 5 reasons why starting to save your money at a young age is important.

Saving money in general should be in our priorities top 3. You want to live a life with no worries even when things go south? Simply save and have an emergency account. Saving at a young age will help you tremendously in life. The money you’d save, the more control you’ll have of your destiny as the video states. Not everyone may have to luxury to save much at the time but we all have the option to learn how to save more and get better at it… only thing separating is you may have to go through longer than someone else but in the end you put in the work and now you’re enjoying the results💯

Saving as a young person in college is absolutely challenging when you consider all the other possible variables as to why someone might not be able to save. Not only do you have those who think they have it all together, but some simply can't save because of their environment. It's not like every young person is living with their parents or can even take out a student loan (some aren't eligible). This was an amazing video on why young people should save and I'll definitely work on it.

Growing up without financial security and seeing my parents struggle is the reason that I am able to save my money. It has been burned in my brain to save money as much as possible from a young age. When I get the urge to spend money on random things I know I do not need, I take a moment and pause to think what this money could go towards in the future that I know I need. This video was a great reminder that saving money pays off!

This video reminded me of my friend’s dad. He is a major reason why I am on the path that I am on. As my friend and I were getting close to graduating highschool, he walked us through a personal finance program and matched our contributions to an emergency fund, that has grown since getting out of highschool and starting working. Being able to tap into that emergency fund helped when I had to take a bit of time off of work due to an overwhelming course load.

When I started working at Chick-Fil-A as a teenager, my boss would always stress the importance of saving and investing. My owner saw it as his duty to look out for his team members and to educate them on how to operate their finances in a better way. Ever since then, I started saving more and it has already helped me so much. This video confirmed the information that I knew. I think saving is very important.

In middle school, I took a money matters class where we basically just watched Dave Ramsey videos. While most of the students didn't pay attention I was fascinated by how you can make so much money by just starting to invest early in life. In fact, it's what made me want to become a finance major, the fact that so many people aren't taught how to take advantage of saving money at a young age is ridiculous. Watching videos like this reminds me of those days back in middle school and I hope that someone sees this video and it completely changes their perspective on life. -James Dixon

When I was young my parents always told me if you want to have a relatively debt free life I need to start saving so that I can have the money to stay on top of things. I did just that and because of this at 25, I have no student loans to pay off, I just recently paid off my house, and I just paid off my 20 acre property. This video is extremely important because it gives you the insight you need to get on top of things and makes life easier down the road.

I have always learned that saving your money is so very important. Thankfully, since I was young, I have always been a saver with my money. Savings are so important because you never know what is going to happen. Occasionally I catch myself wanting to open a new business but realize that I can't always start it due to not having enough money. Saving money could help me tremendously in this situation.

Saving is important, and this video shows why. Learning about compounding interest was a game changer for me. My parents didn't know about it when they were younger so they made sure we did. Starting early and putting what little money I had into places where I was getting a return on it, has caused a solid wealth increase for me. It's nowhere near where the video is at, but even just doing a little bit each month for the past decade has seen it grow pretty substantially.

These kinds of videos are incredibly helpful for college-bound young adults. I really like the focus on not just understanding how to manage a business but also understanding how to manage your life, which is something that some business classes do not feel the need to address when they are talking about merely operating a business. One of the best things a young adult can do is open a savings account.

From the time I could remember my mom has always instilled in me to save my money and to start early doing so. I never really understood why, mainly because I didn’t grasp the concept of money but not that I am older I have more knowledge and know why she told me to save. I think one of the most important things about saving money is, you have more freedom over your future decisions and you never know when an emergency will come up and you might need that extra money. I think saving is a very important thing to start doing at a young age and to start training yourself for when you get older. I found this video to be very helpful!

As a business student, it is important to understand the importance of saving money and how it will benefit you later in life. Saving so that you will have an emergency fund is something that I have done for a long time now. This helps when you need that extra to help you get by or if an unexpected situation arises that you did not budget for. Compound interest allows you to make money on your money. Depending on how much you can save, you can reach your financial goals by utilizing the benefits of compounding interest. These are great concepts to implement and benefit from.

All throughout my childhood I always heard my parents talking about saving money and not spending money just because you have it. As i grew up, they taught me how to save my own money and to be responsible with my purchases. They taught me the difference between a want and a need and I have carried that with me into my adulthood. I think this video would be very beneficial for all teens and young adults to watch to learn how to be responsible with their money.

Videos such as these are so beneficial to young adults in college. Some business classes do not feel the need to touch on such important subjects when they are talking about solely running a business but I really love the focal point of not just understanding how to manage a business but understanding to manage your life. Starting a savings account is one of the best decisions a young adult can make.

I really enjoyed how this video stimulated my thoughts on saving. I have been taught by both parents and friends how important it is to save while you are young and I have been good at keeping a good saving plan and managing my budget. However, there is always the thought of "I want to get the nice sports car while I'm young" or " I want to buy this item because it's popular". I am thankful for this video, as it helped me reassure I should be focusing on my savings while I am young and limit the amount of wants I have on my mind.

I believe being young and blowing through your money is where a lot of college students have trouble. I keep a finance journal to try and combat this stereotype. Every pay check I put 20% of it into my savings account, then take out what bills I have (currently my car payment and my cats medicine) and whatever is left i can spend until my next paycheck. Every few days I go back into my journal and take out what all I've spent so I always have a good idea how much more I have left. :3

Coming from a family raised by a single mother, I saw others have certain things that I did not have made me realize that I wanted to be "rich". I started saving as soon as I working, and it has really allowed me the benefit to do what I wanted. I learned that saving was important from my mother. I have also learned that where you save your money does matter as well. Since I was able to save more than six months worth of bills, I was able to quit my job and pursue a job that I actually wanted.

As a young girl, I was constantly hearing about the power of saving. Little did I know at the time that having money in a savings account really is not the best option. Compounding interest can work in your favor when it comes it saving. Truly when you are young, every single year you start saving can make an immense difference. Having the means to save is a privilege but if you have the means then possessing self restraint and budgeting can be a game changer. This video was very well put together and taught me a lot. As a child, my parents always stressed to me the important of saving your money and paying attention to how much you spend. Because they stressed this factor to me, throughout high school jobs and early college jobs, I have put the money I have earned back into the back and used it on my education. I am now a senior in college with only one semester left and I am debt free. It takes discipline and I feel relieved to not have student debt so in the long run it was definitely worth it. This video completely matches my mindset because even though I am young I like to save money and plan for my future instead of blowing it all and have a "good time". I have definitely been in a position where I thought “why save when I don’t have anything to worry about right now?” However, as someone who personally believes in saving and being able to fall back on “emergency funds”, I would definitely say that saving should be a top priority for everyone. Saving something is so much better than not saving at all. Even just trying to save a small amount like 10% of each paycheck will go a long way in the long run.

This video helped me understand the importance of saving when you are young. The most important reason for me is to pursue financial freedom. If I save now I can eventually have my money start to work for me. A huge goal for me is to retire earlier in life and not have to work for someone else for the rest of my life. If I follow this videos advice, I will not only have a higher chance of reaching this goal, but I will have a strong emergency fund, stress less about finance, and be able to take advantage of compound interest. Also, I find the structure of these videos to be very helpful. Going through each reason to save young and then adding a summary with the main points at the end helps me remember the content a lot easier. I think one thing that could help these videos is adding the summary slide towards the beginning. So after the video intro, you could add the same slide as the summary and preview the points before going into each of the main points. This could help viewers remember the content even better.

I had very little knowledge of how to properly handle finances growing up. It didn't really hit me until I moved out when I started my first year of college. I realized quickly that I was not financially stable. I ended up having to get two jobs just to cover the bills. I learned that I needed to change my spending/saving habits. Although it was a low point in my life, I'm very grateful for the lessons it taught me. Now, I can comfortably pay for my own bills, attend college, and have some extra cash to spend. I try to be mindful of not spending more than I make, and made it a habit to put money into savings every time I get paid. I'm "paying myself" to achieve my future financial goals.

It is very important to start saving at a young age for many reasons... as listed in this video, emergencies, accidents, wanting more out of life. If you do not put money back or unable to put monies back, what would happen in an accident or emergency? I know people don't think of this when they are young but it is very important to think about this and start as early as possible. We never know what is going to happen or when. When young you depend on others but others will not always be there. But you are only responsible for you in the first place, but as you get older you realize that. Very important to think about you and what you want out of life at a very young age.

From a very young age I was aware of the importance of saving money. I grew up showing 4h animals, and was able to make a good amount of money at the end of every summer. With that, it was known that I was supposed to save that money in order to now be financially stable on my own. I also learned how to budget, how to decipher between a want and a need. I also was able to learn to put the big payments and necessities first, and if I had left over then I could spend it on other things. I think it's important for everyone to learn what saving truly is from a young age so they can be in a good place when they are older.

I agree that saving at a young age is important, and that it can often be difficult to get into that mindset. This is especially be the case in such a consumer-driven society where value is perceived as ownership over "the right things" at "the right time" (now). The here-and-now mindset has an impact on overspending and can turn otherwise frugal consumers into irresponsible people, those in many cases addicted to the feedback-loop of product consumption and low retention rates. Good vid.

There are many students I have discussed about saving and very few knows about different way to save money and advantage of saving money earliest possible. I would suggest, have couple of saving accounts for different reasons (emergency, education, marriage), invest in stock market (variety of industries - oil & gas, airlines, tech, pharma, etc.), 401k, HAS, FHA or any tax saving accounts. Save or invest any extra money comes in your pocket, cash tip, tax refund, stimulus money. These saving accounts will help at retirement.

The compound interest segment is a great addition to the video, and I haven’t seen it mentioned since the first business class a took a couple of years ago. I think the stress factor is another great point. Stress can already come from many different sources, so being financially stable is a must.

Saving money can feel like a tough task when you want to spend it on eating out, trips with friends, and expensive clothes but it really will pay off if you decide to save more and spend less over time. I think the most important takeaway from this video for me is compound interest. It may not look like much a year from now but over twenty plus years that money will have turned into a much larger sum that can be put towards bigger expenses such as a house or a car.

I started college at a later age, but I will be graduating next May. Some of the classes I have taken are geared toward younger students. I had to try and relate to this age group as I went through college. This video helped me to relate to this age group through emphasis on main points through writing and pictures. Although I am getting a late start, I can still proceed to save more and have a fairly decent retirement at a later age. Overall, the business school 101 videos helped me to learn more than I would have just reading a textbook.

Saving at a young age is a principle I was always taught ever since I started making my own money. To be honest, one of the reasons why I have done so is because I plan to attend flight school to become a pilot. Now granted, the only reason why I am able to save all my money for flight school is because my parents have agreed to cover the majority of my basic costs and expenses (phone, insurance, medical) until I am finished with school and have a stable enough job to transition over on my part. This has taught me how frugal to be with money. I try to work as much as I can, and choose to spend my money on absolute necessities only. I know that in the long run after all is said and done, this will only set myself and many others who are in the same position up for success in the future. Due to the explained factors presented in this video of which can arise if one has not saved their money wisely, it is important that the youth begin to learn how important and crucial saving really is.

It is extremely important to start saving at a young age. As a kid you don't really think about how things will get paid or bought. You either have it or you don't, and growing up it was typically the don't side of things for me. I learned at an early age that if you want anything, I'd have to work and save those coins for it. That has been seen with my schooling as of recent. School is no where near cheap.

My family has always been very aware of financial situations, and put a big emphasis on saving money and always being prepared for any emergency situations. I know many friends and family members that never save any money and live paycheck to paycheck, This is a normal way for young adults to live. I think learning how to save money as a young adult is a concept we all need to fully grasp, as it sets you up for having a good relationship with money, rather than feeling stressed and eager to make money quickly to be able to buy or do the things you want.

I think that a lot of youth these days are heavy consumers, who would spend any cent of the money they have on their interests. That includes me, so watching this video helped solidify what it means to be a working adult in the real world dealing with all sorts of financial crises.
To save early is critical, but I think knowing how to save AND spend money efficiently should be considered when it comes to finances. If you only save without any regard for enjoyment, then you will feel as if you're wasting precious moments now to enjoy than in later years. There should be a good balance when it comes to handling money, PERIOD.

Saving at a young age is so important, but even if you aren't young, you can still start saving now. The hardest part about saving is being disciplined enough to do it. When I was young, I would take 100 dollars from my check each week and put it into savings before anything was paid. I learned to never count on that money for bills or entertainment. It also helps when you are married if your spouse is on the same page. The savings add up quickly. I enjoyed the video lecture and appreciated the contents.

As a college student, even though we are all strapped for money, being able to save now is more important than ever. As things have proven recently, work, social security, and lifestyles are never 100% safe from the changes in the world. Being able to save, whether for a rainy day or for retirement, is paramount. It will allow for exponential growth, even though small, to be able to grow into something larger than you could have ever realized.

I will start saving now while I am in college though, so I can hopefully have some money in the bank before I graduate.

Since I have to come out of pocket for a lot of things, it is very hard to imagine that I can just buy me a nice house after I graduate. However, I have always valued saving, so at least I can say I have a start and not any money at all. The pandemic was a good example of people being caught off guard by not having enough money saved up for bills, especially small businesses, saving is very fundamental, or learning how to make money off of your spending is important as well.

I needed to hear this video, personally, I am not the best at saving even though I know the consequences of that. Saving at a young age contributes to financial independence and freedom in the future. It provides individuals with the flexibility and security to make choices based on their personal preferences rather than being solely dictated by financial constraints.
It's important to note that saving doesn't have to be limited to large amounts of money. Even small, consistent contributions can add up over time and make a difference. Starting early and developing a regular saving habits can lay a strong foundation for a secure financial future.

Key points made young people need to start saving it helps, trust me I have been saving since I was 18, and I am now in my 30's and have enough money to last me for years. I know some people find it difficult to save but training your brain to not just spend because you want something, instead look at it from a different perspective, for instance, saying to yourself, do I need it? Having money for emergencies is a huge plus because you never know what can happen, so saving that extra cash takes off the stress when you run into an emergency. Yes, lastly, let your money work for you; that is the most significant piece of advice I have been given from some mentors I knew growing up. I have been doing affiliate marketing for a couple of years now, but having the discipline to learn and the patients to see results is key to letting your money work for you. Excellent video lots of young people need to understand that money is hard to make and that if you are determined enough to set your life up for success, you will see results.

My parents have always taught me and my brother to save 10% of what we earn. I'm so glad they taught us this because I did not realize saving was not as natural to people as I thought. I feel like everyone should make this a habit even if it's hard because you never know what could happen. Everyone should have money set aside and have wiggle room for emergencies because if not, you could spend your life being in debt.

Great video, thanks for sharing! I think that financial discipline = financial freedom, meaning if you can keep from getting the latest phone, the new car, and/or just keep from wasting money overall and instead put your money in places that serve you in the long run it will make the later years of your life, your spouses life (if you have one or will have one), and also, your children's lives easier and more fulfilling. It's not so important to focus on getting rich, unless money is what you want to devote your life to, but rather it is just more about being responsible and disciplined with what you earn.
