👋🏻 ABOUT ALEX and DEPIQD 👋🏻
Alex is a certified DaVinci Resolve trainer and video producer with a mission to simplify and reduce the learning curve of producing fantastic video content. Alex has been in filmmaking for over 14 years and, in 2016, set up his company, Depiqd (said Dee-PikT), which initially focused on traditional video production.
Now, whilst Depiqd still offers video production services to our clients today, the focus is on reaching and helping as many people as possible to get started using video and make the process of learning enjoyable, stress-free and efficient without it costing a fortune.
Whether you have personal or business-driven goals, video is so powerful and can reach people in many ways that other forms of media can. However, it can be laborious, complicated, and expensive, and it takes a long time to become proficient, so often, people give up far too soon.
If that sound's familiar, hopefully, the videos on this channel will help you. Please consider subscribing and turning on notifications, so you don't miss new videos as they get released.

Has stabilzation in Davinci Resolve 18 helped you out of a jam before? Maybe you’ve never tried the tools before, in which case I’ve hope the video helped. Let me know in the comments.

Only guy out there that actually explain how the stabilization tools work. Thank you!

I once did a music video shot on the mezzanine ( 2nd floor ) in a warehouse, where a rock band was playing along with a song. Incidentally, all the front line players were stomping to the beat in unison. To which every camera was moving with the floor on the beat. It was quite strange watching it back when all the files came back to my computer, because when I was there watching the shoot, I was apparently moving with floor and the tripods.
That was about 8 years ago and Resolve really wasn't as precise as it is now. To fix it I had to stabilize as best as I could then render the footage - bring it back in and stabilize again. About a few months ago, I opened the old footage and tried stabilization in Resolve and it worked the first time. Little updates and improvements are happening all the time in Resolve, I was happy that if it happened again, that it could be dealt with easier now.
I enjoy the way you teach Alex, very precise and concise information. Well done ( as usual )

Thanks Jim. Appreciate you sharing that story and leaving kind comments. I particularly enjoy the stories you have always interesting and leave me grateful we have the tools available now to handle so many production issues that used to be a real pain to resolve!

A timely post! Just did a interview, hand held with long lens. But stabilizing with zoom crops a bit of top of head. So NOW, when I hand hold a shot, I will try to keep space around the subject knowing that it will be lost in stabilization.

Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. Totally agree and great advice. Keeping the shot a little wider gives you room for the crop. Also, shooting a higher resolution than your deliverable gives you a little more breathing room too.

Stabilization appears to work very well. I don't know how doable this might be, but I would be interested in getting some feedback from the module about whether the settings I used were adequate or possibly overcompensating. I think the really fine points of stabilizing might be hard to evaluate. My image shake appears to be gone, but I wonder if I've optimized graininess or artifacts. Because the shakiness is moved to the edges of the frame, it's harder for me to focus without distraction. Does that make sense?

Maybe the best explanation of the stabilization option. :))

Hi Alex great video. Off topic but Davinci related. When I try to bring clips shot on Canon C70 XAVC 10bit/422(mxf), only the audio shows up. I have tried several methods including relinking but still get the same result and the only way is transcoding into apple prores or mp4 /h264 before it sees it. Any help to resolve this will be greatly appreciated 🙏

How would you stabilize long clips? I'm finding it tasking to break them up to stabilize and then match its sister clip. (I'm editing a verticle video a client made on their phone)

The classic stabilizer on distant objects works well in some cases. Less known function. czcams.com/video/yzNv4FAQcjs/video.html
