Good video Dean thanks. Although I wish the US would join the rest of the world with the metric system! All that talk of inches means nothing to me! 😂

Dean, you are the best. In all your instructions you cover everything. By that I mean, all dimensions for drill bits, wood, fixtures, and tools to do the job. As Richard said, as a novice I find this information valuable. Thanks for all your advice and instruction.

This is something I keep meaning to do. Thanks for the discussion regarding the shape of the handle. Must say, the importance of the shape is not something that has occurred to me, so will definitely bear it in mind.

Nice looking piece of pecan. Glad you didn’t stain it. I’ve found shellac to be an excellent finish for handles. After polishing, a coat or two of lacquer can be applied. I’ve used this on plane, chisel and saw handles. Should work fine for turning tools. Shellac feels good in the hand.

Garry Not Linda. Good video but a couple of things to add. Whether tapping threads or installing thread inserts with standard coarse threads the correct size drill to use is 1/64" over the bolt diameter. I won't get into thread diameter calculations but the rule of thumb is a 64th over the nominal bolt size. You were spot on and chamfering is always recommended. You installed the inserts upside down though. The slots on the end of the insert are not for a screwdriver they are to cut the threads. The correct method is to take a short bolt, run a nut onto the shank, run the bolt into the insert most of the way then snug the nut up to the face of the insert. Line the insert up with the hole, press down on the bolt head and with the correct wrench run the insert in turning the assembly with the nut against the face of the insert. In your project until the insert is run almost to the bottom of the hole. When space allows, run it all the way in until the nut is flush with the face of the workpiece. If you have a drill press, put the workpiece in the vice and firmly press down the top of the bolt with the chuck while running the insert in. It makes life a lot simpler and keeps the insert going in a straight line. Sorry to go on so long but I learned that method a long time ago from a fastener supply rep. A short piece of all thread in the chuck will keep you from marring up your chuck jaws, too.

Where did you source those set screws? Every other video I've watched for handles, they epoxied the tool in. I really like your approach which makes the tool so much more universal. You have a very easy to follow and informative format to your video. Thank you.
