The music for this particular act of the ballet Elite Syncopations was written, apparently, by Scott Joplin, somewhere in 1902. It reminded me right away of the score for The Sting (Paul Newman, Robert Redford), by Marvin Hamlisch. It looks like Hamlisch found inspiration in Scott's sound, then made it his own. The score for The Sting is one of the finest and the most memorable in the history of movie making.
Very beautifull. I have seen other versions but this one is my favourite The subtlety of the measured movements and lifts and their facial expressions gives a very special character.
So I read in the comments that the female dancer is named Sarah Lamb. I am just fascinated by how extraordinarily beautiful her face and figure are, and how effortlessly she moves. Bravo!
I guess all of you ballet dancers know that Kenneth MacMillan was a British ballet dancer and choreographer, and this dance "number" was arranged by him. I was confused because I'm not a ballet dancer, but I love Scott Joplin's piano rags and know them well. The title of this particular piece by Joplin is "Bethena" and not "Elite Syncopations." But I guess Mr. MacMillan was more taken by the title "Elite Syncopations" and so used it for the title of this dancing number. "Bethena" is actual a "concert waltz" by Joplin and not a rag. "Elite Syncopations" is a rag, and it's a "doozy"--I highly recommend the Nonesuch recordings by Joshua Rifkin of the Joplin rags--they are "the gold standard" for me, recordings that I've never tired of hearing. Cheers to one and all!
Thank you for your explanations. Did not know Scott Joplin, but "the Entertainer" is well known. The two dancers are marvellous, in some parts they dance like in slow motion.
This is a slow dance, a romantic moment between the two. Think of it as a slow ballroom dance that is adapted for ballet. It is not a circus act with multiple spins and high jumps.
Interesting outfits they are adorned with; peculiar in fact. I don't believe I've ever seen that manner of dress anywhere. The tights yes, but not festooned as these are. Almost look like bobsledders.
It is all by the Black American composer and pianist Scott Joplin ( 1868-1917)- he became famous for his ragtime compositions, of which he wrote over 100.
My internet provider said I can have fast speed and down load cap for an extra 60 bucks I said what how about lets just cancel it all for free how does that make you feel ? He said sir I hope you won't do that . I said I thinking I will do something soon.
Who in the heck comes up with these costumes? Hats off to the dancers. Obviously years and years perfecting their craft. But my God, what in the world is this dude supposed to be?
The costumes are a modern take on the styles and clothing of the early 20th century, the ragtime era, when Scott Joplin was composing the music. I suspect a nod to vaudeville as well.
Lovely piece.....and, my word, Sarah Lamb is stunning!
Impressed by the number of "experts" in this chat. I may have been their only reader and I regret it. This piece is compelling and sweet, well done!

Très beaux costumes, magnifique représentation, personnages magnifiques bravos ❤❤❤❤

Hamlisch simply took Scott Joplin's work.

So good and she was incredible! She makes everything look so smooth and easy.
Very beautifull.

This is pure art! Everything in it is pure beauty. I could watch it almost forever
i feel ballet is one of the few things out there that you can watch everyday for the rest of your life and you won't get bored of it.

This is "Bethena, A Concert Waltz" (Ragtime-waltz) by Scott Joplin, from 1905.
I was completely unaware I had a crush on Sarah lamb. But evidently I do. Thank you for helping me with this realization.
Splendid! We need more Arts & Creativity like this to enliven and re-inspire our cultural life! (NETFLIX isn't cutting it...)

@@franzwagner4576 I agree--they are "poetry in motion."
May I suggest the whole thing is nostalgic in its musical tone and in its elementary pas de deux. We were not born to melt this easily.

A wonderful new style. I like it! 👍⭐⭐⭐🍀

Bringing Scott Joplin and the Zoo to ballet. Fantastic
I guess we are just going to ignore the Camel in the room. Or maybe Llama would be a better description, not quite big enough for a Camel.
@@madcyclist58 gross! lmao
We all noticed, but respectfully stay silent.
@@taoist32 Respectfully stay silent? Bullshit - I call them like I see them. May God have mercy on folks like you if things ever really get rough.
C'mon! She even shaved for us! ;-)
@Tom R True, kept my attention for sure.

This waltz is my favorite part in elite syncopations next to calliope rag
😊😄😆
😀😛
Sarah Lamb of course, but who is her partner?
Valeri Hristov.
@@icarrus4u He's fantastic!
Hell of a biscuit
why is it called Elite Syncopations when the piece is Bethena?
CamelTou- closeUp - YOU ☠️🥃🖤👈👍
The cameltoe at 2.37 is incredibly sexy!

This girl like wonder full end like a past charm
spectacular dance attractions
What is the music? It reminds me of Buster Keeting films. The dance is wonderful.

Bravo!
Gorgeous girl!
Envie de légèreté.?😊 ❤
... y los alegres vestiditos de la orquesta.
Is that wardrobe painted on her? If not there is a camel someplace walking around missing a foot.
Great costumes.
Wow😮👍🏆🏆🏆😍❤
Read between the lines 🍑
Mr Joplin would be proud
Thank à bunch beautiful attractif and fit
The Show itself must be called Elite Syncopation. The number they’re dancing to is Bethena.
Correct.
Dance teater yang sangat menarik💗🎈👍👍
Anyone else here for the 🐪?
Все!
I clicked for absolutely no other reason
Is there another reason?
Неет, just for choreography!

Fine the moose
Not being funny but imagine yourself and your fiancee are both A-grade ballet dancers... would this not make the sweetest first dance??
Beautiful 2:07
Wonderful dancing, hideous costumes.
Completely agree. Especially the the placement of the stars. Ick.
Funny, cause I saw it just the OPPOSITE!! Loved the costuming, but the dancing was utterly LACKLUSTER!!!
Seriously? The costumes are _everything._ they are like body paint. So fitting.

Wow! Toeshoes and "toe" tights!
Thumbs up if you clicked for the CAMEL TOE
Wow 💪🔥😱
This is Bethena, not Elite Syncopations, wrong song
The ballet is called Elite Syncopations. It was choreographed by Kenneth MacMillan in 1974.
Perfecto!
👏👏👏
YAWN!!!
