- Raising trout at every stage of their life cycle is fairly common at Wyoming's Clarks Fork Fish Hatchery. The hatchery raises kokanee salmon, Bear River cutthroat, Yellowstone Cutthroat, Snake River cutthroat and rainbow trout. Wyoming's 10 hatcheries work together to raises various fish species until they're big enough to be stocked in waters around the state.

Would like to see more Goldens in the mountain lakes. Great job Wyoming Game and Fish dept!
Fishing for golden trout in Wyoming's alpine lakes is fun. Have you checked out our fish stocking report to see all the places you can catch golden trout? If not, it might give you some ideas for more waters to try out: wgfapps.wyo.gov/FishStock/FishStock
So many different species! Very cool! I’m wondering if this is a RAS system or a Flow through. Very informative video before I apply!
Hi Jacob. This facility is entirely flow through. All of the fish in the indoor hatchery and outdoor raceways get first-use water. It's possible to reuse the hatchery water in the outdoor raceways if needed, but that normally isn't necessary due to all of the water the facility receives from its springs.
I'm curious about the placement of fish into a body of water like a dam, lake, or river. How do you make sure the fish are not shocked by the temperature difference from the truck tank into nature? Will they die? Or is it by putting large numbers into nature you expect those deaths? How can you tell a wild spawned fish from a farmed one?
Thank you for this informative video. My wife and I are looking at coming and retiring in Wyoming in the next couple of years.
They keep the water temperatures about the same. If you move to Wyoming you should visit one of the hatcheries. Story Wyoming has a great one. I can't the difference between the hatchery trout or the wild ones. I've lived in Wyoming almost my whole life. Cutthroat and Goldens are my favorite trout. Wyoming Game and Fish dept does a great job with the fish and wildlife management.
