  • Why We Moved from Rwanda to Zanzibar explains and updates our viewers that we did move.
    We review the positive aspects of both places. Spoiler Alert! There isn't any negativity in the video. If you're looking for something wrong about Rwanda or Zanzibar as a "shortcut" to making your own decision, you won't find it here. Our goal is to present the continent of Africa as a viable option for Afro-Americans.
    We generalize about the importance of "personal choice". If you are considering visiting or even moving to the continent of Africa - do some real soul-searching about what you value BEFORE comparing places. We did quite a bit of introspection and our journey has been most enjoyable.

    For older people, Zanzibar is more relaxed and fun to be in! Also due to being a tourist hot spot (could be more expensive) but you don’t experience isolation both locally and internationally. Lots of cultures too! Great analysis and enjoy your new life in Zanzibar.

    Nice to see you are now in Zanzibar. Having worked my butt off in the UK I've now downsized, semi-retired and relocated to Abuja, Nigeria and one of my goals is while I'm based in Abuja I plan to spend several months a year living in other African countries. @@Xusen_wajeer Not going too badly. I'm lucky in that I'm getting a UK pension that will mee all my accommodation, feeding and leisure needs. Also I'm realistic with my spending and live in a middle level part of the city and not the high brow areas. I would say for most Diaspora returning to Africa, while accommodation and funds to enjoy leisure activities won't be a problem the real killer will be boredom. What to do with all your free time.
      But then one can always spend time traveling to different parts of Africa or back to the West or both.

    • @AwakenWithMarkInAFRICA
      @AwakenWithMarkInAFRICA  Před rokem +3

      It varies region to region. I interacted with several single women who felt very safe. But remember, that was a snapshot in time. The attitudes towards women depends also. In Rwanda, double check this, women makeup over 60% of their parliament. In a predominantly muslim country a woman may need a male spokesperson out of respect for their culture.
      I think a Google search of cost of living also links to crime statistics, if I recall correctly.

    • @africanglobalnomad
      @africanglobalnomad Před rokem +1

      @@AwakenWithMarkInAFRICA great points. I am not aware of any predominantly Muslim country in Africa where an adult woman, single or otherwise requires a male chaperone 😂. Ditto for young Muslim girls! Africa has a huge Muslim population close to 500 million or more who are very devout but not fundamentalists. That doesn’t mean that they are secular - decent (long) dressing observed by both genders but this is common across the continent even among non-muslims. To answer the question, it’s actually easier for an older woman because older people are still given a lot of respect as elders and are likely to get more help too.

      @@africanglobalnomad Spot on brother. I remember growing up if I was sitting in a bus and an older person came on, every young person closest to the door would be automatically standing up to give a seat to the older man or woman. Also applies to pregnant women. I love this about my continent. Here in the US when i was on the bus while in college offering an older person a seat sometimes was declined or accepted with some degree of shock because no one really cares for the next person.

    • @muchit3629
      @muchit3629 Před rokem +1

      You will be totally fine. Most African countries revere older people. In fact most times younger people do not usually speak back or argue with older people as it is deemed disrespectful and can lead to being reprimanded by immediate family or anyone around. The only thing I can say is for people with disabilities or issues with mobility you would have to be careful because there are lots of buildings without elevators or ramps for wheelchairs. In that case one would just need to do proper research on where to live and how to get around.
