This has to be the cleanest, safest and most modern hostel I have seen. And it has so much privacy space if needed. Others have complained about doing laundry in China.

Thank you, Will, for showing us around the hostel. It looks very clean and new. The facilities remind me of college dorm living. The room where people sleep reminds me of sleeper beds on a train. I have seen other hostels and compared to them, the one you showed us is top of the line.

Please. Is not cheap. It feels cheap.
      Please read my dear
Purchasing power parity (PPP)[1] is a measure of the price of specific goods in different countries and is used to compare the absolute purchasing power of the countries' currencies. PPP is effectively the ratio of the price of a basket of goods at one location divided by the price of the basket of goods at a different location. The PPP inflation and exchange rate may differ from the market exchange rate because of tariffs, and other transaction costs.[2]
The purchasing power parity indicator can be used to compare economies regarding their gross domestic product (GDP), labour productivity and actual individual consumption, and in some cases to analyse price convergence and to compare the cost of living between places.[2] The calculation of the PPP, according to the OECD, is made through a basket of goods that contains a "final product list [that] covers around 3,000 consumer goods and services, 30 occupations in government, 200 types of equipment goods and about 15 construction projects".[2]

This is supposed to be the cheapest youth hostel in Shanghai. It's all young foreigners coming to live here. Chinese people are not used to living in youth hostels. Economy hotels in Shanghai (no stars) are generally around $350 RMB.

I hope you get to visit other parts of China in the not-so-distant future and document your journey along the way. I have seen you've evolved in the way you describe China. The more time you spend in China, the more myths and misconceptions you may have had about China eventually die out. Like one of the commenters have pointed out, you stopped talking about the CCTV cameras all over the city on this video. My favorite video so far has been when you visited Shanghai Disney and equally favorite when you visited that town along a river bank.

In case you don't know, London has got more cameras per capita, go for a fact check.
and here's the thing, do you know how cctv works? it record certain area! Do you think the government will employ a person to monitor certain camera 24/7? when the camera is everywhere in the city? who the heck are you that they need to monitor you all the time? the record will stay in the camera's storage for several days or weeks at most, if nothing takes place in that period of time, it will be over written, so what's the big deal? if if a you a criminal, that's another story, in that case, are you?
