Thank you for this. I did know the crew likely survived until impacting the ocean, but experiencing the length of time the crew capsule plummeted added a human element like no other documentary had done. I really had no idea how intact the capsule remained after the horrific explosion, nor how long the crew must have suffered their terror.
Thank you for this. This has completely changed my perspective of the Challenger disaster, which I, along with my classmates, viewed live during school - as we had done during several Shuttle launches. Like others, this will always be a milestone in my life, as this was an impressionable age to be. Other documentaries tend to sterilize the mention of the lives lost with technical dialogue and editorializing, but you managed to convey an entirely different point of view by including only the NASA communications next to the seemingly infinite amount of time the capsule traveled.
I’m not sure I’ll ever forget this. God bless those astronauts, their families, their friends. I’d never have thought a simple simulation could have affected me so.
So sad, neither shuttle should have been lost. I was a freshman in high school when Challenger happened.
Same, or possibly a sophomore. I was in a small high school, a lot of us were in the school library watching it live, joking around, misbehaving, then stunned disbelief.
