    This might be an unpopular opinion, but I actually like the extra Adywan shots with the Falcon speeding by while simultaneously firing back at the TIEs, rather than moving like a slow duck in the official cuts. It really compliments the perilous and exciting feel of this scene.

      Yes, the Falcon always looked stationary and it made for poor logic if you're trying to escape.

      Agree completely. The whole scene was much more dynamic and made far more sense.
      I especially loved the "exterior" shots that showed the Falcon's quad lasers firing back. In the original, you only see that once or twice, barely.

      You would think that w/all the money Lucasfilm has, they would've added these things in the Special Edition back then. Instead they added a really bad CG Jabba & Mos Eisley spaceport scene that just wasn't all that good.

    • @skyguysreactions
      @skyguysreactions Před 7 lety +11

      First; when Tarkin asked Vader if they got away, the Sith Lord said that, and I quote, "They have just made the jump into *hyperspace* ". And Rogue One makes it clear that the Death Star is capable of making the jump to lightspeed (fun fact: did you know that the Death Star actually has two or three hyperdrives in order to properly jump the massive station into hyperspace?)!
      Secondly; in terms of the quality of the animation in the Special Editions, at the time that's what would have been considered the most advanced form of animation (just look at the early days of Pixar)! Plus, George was/is a pioneer of the filmmaking industry. That's why the OT was as popular as it was; with each passing film, techniques and for the Visual Effects got better and better. It's because of both the Originals and the Prequels that we have the advanced visual effects of today!

  • @pokernightcoordinator6766
    @pokernightcoordinator6766 Před 10 měsíci +9

    Pretty awesome that Adywan took the time to fix the continuity issue at 2:18 and placed the falcon interior behind R2. Though I doubt anyone would have ever noticed the background behind R2 was from a scene inside the Death Star unless we had been told by the film makers.
    While I'll always prefer the original, I do think Adywan's is far superior to the special editions and definitely a worthy version.

  • @sxhmeatyclaws

    I think what people don't realize is that DeEd is made to undo all the stuff George did after the fact, the true theatrical release movie with Better quality. Adywans is basically the upgrade that George should have done. DeEd is made to stay true to the original, Adywan is made to be the best versions of the films we love. I personally love both, and I think it just depends on what you want out of the film. The best, or the true film.

      Tarkin: You're sure the homing beacon is secure aboard their vessel? I'm taking an awful risk, Vader. This had better work.

    I LOVE how Adywan Revisited made an effect when the Falcon is moving in space during the TIE Fighter attack,
    also added CGI shots and CGI explosions that were made from the prequel era trilogy, added a new shot of the Falcon exploring
    on Hyperspace, including in all scenes showing the light speed background and the glow effects! I also love when he
    added a new Digital shot of the Falcon jumping out of Hyperspace and the shots of Battle of Yavin’s arrival were played in a
    different sequence! And last but not least is when he found an effect with the Falcon and added a shadow effect!

    The only problem I had with the Adywan version, is that it seems like the tie fighters are putting way too much firepower into a ship that they're actually trying to let get away. Given the bombardment from all angles, they could've accidentally blown up the falcon. The other versions have several clips of the tie fighters orbiting around like space sharks, but not actually firing, which makes sense considering they're just supposed to be scaring the falcon. This is why Leia called the escape "easy." The Adywan is certainly the best looking version, but their spray pattern of gunfire by no means looked "easy" to evade. Now that said...ahem....I like the Adywan version the best!

    • @panther7584

      Look at the Stormtroopers: They also laid down a lot of fire and made sure to hit everything BUT them. People have made fun of it for years as if they were just incompetent... but the movie makes it abundantly clear that Vader wanted them to get away with a tracking device that was installed on their ship. So the heavy fire was to make it look good.
      Then you get to see Vader standing right there, and the dude sitting next to him is like: "I really would have preferred to just kill them, though. I hope they don't realize what we've done and your stupid plan works"? How much more obvious can an obvious plot point be?

  • @fubar5884
    @fubar5884 Před 4 lety +10

    It always bugged me that in the original film the Falcon just sat there. I understand they tried to make their WW2 bomber gunner's comparison and had limited technology to do it, but it just was weird to see a ship just slowly going in a straight line. It *could* of been made to make sense, if they'd of just added in a quick line of dialog from Han to Chewy. Something akin to "these ships are too fast for you to be pulling maneuvers. Chewy, level it off, let the deflectors do the work." Then he could of had his sly little, "hear me baby hold together" and you'd have a ticking clock element of will the shields hold out to add to the tension. But if fans are going to try and re-work the scene a bit, since they can't do much with dialog, actually have the Falcon do more than lumber along in a straight line adds a bit more to the action scene and makes it a tad more believable.

    The Falcon flying over the forests on Yavin looks so much better in Adywan's. He changed the sky to fit the shadowing/lighting of the Falcon in front of the blue screen so it blended more smoothly. The color I'm sure helped too. And, adding the shadow on the trees under the Falcon is just wonderful.

    In today's new movie world, it's nice to see the Adywan version, personally. The additional effects modernize the film and gives it a LOT more punch for this space battle. Look, I love the original film. Hands down, it changed my life and got me into making movies. But Star Wars: A New Hope NEEDS new things added to it. It's the only film ( in movie history ) I can think of where you can continue to add new shots to it, which continues the intense mythological feel that Lucas was originally after.

    One mistake I have to point out with Adywan in these shots is how the stars in the background have been edited to move outside the cockpit to give the illusion of speed, where in reality, those stars are literally lightyears away and would only move with a rotational change in perspective, not linear directional, as they would have to be very close if they did, or you'd have to be moving VERY fast - it makes it seem like one of those cliche 'treadmill' background effects from horse riding in old Westerns.

    The only thing I don`t like are the additions to the targeting computers to the turrets. They are literally pointless. The circle is supposed to be the Millennium Falcon, and the grid squares are the effective field of view. When the turret aims at a certain point on the grid, that grid square is filled in. The blips flying around are the fighters on the radar. So why add the flying crosshairs?

    Adywans look more natural color. love the additions too. Harmy I watched many times. He did a really great job too. In fact best I seen them, it is jsut I don't have a new hope in HD for adywan. I wish it was easier to get these and I want the RTN oof the jedi renewed.

    I really, really wish there was a combination movie of Adywan Revisited re edited scenes and the Specialized Edition. That would be the perfect Star Wars. Looks wise and logic scene progression wise.

  • @DogPatch1149

    I don't feel one version is necessarily "better" than the other overall, but personally, I prefer Adywan's version the most. It just feels right to me.
    The Falcon firing back more gave the escape more intensity and urgency, though I'm not sure I agree with the editing of the sequence completely - I probably wouldn't have altered the second half of the escape as much, especially the last TIE approaching just before being destroyed, but it still works. He also fixed the one thing that always bothered me - the cockpit of the Falcon while in hyperspace has the blue-white tint I felt it should have had all along.
    I don't think anyone in 1977 would have thought that 43 years later, people would have the technology and ability to tweak and change the original. The Special Editions were George's way of making it as he thought it should be, but as we all know, not everyone agreed with some of the changes he made. Harmy and Adywan had very different goals with their respective work, and they're both excellent quality.
    Mainly, I'm thankful that George Lucas was kind enough to share his universe for us all to enjoy.

    Noticed Despecialized is sharper than either of the others with the the Falcon to Yavin 4:25 (especially the Falcon itself) however I like the extra brightness on the planet in Revisited and the stars in Despecialized just look like a pixel dropper randomly scattered em about :(

    The only gripe I have with Adywan's (Amazing) edit is that his added Blaster bolts are not firing at the rate we see Luke and Han firing them at (Several small beams a second as opposed to just 2 beams every half second)

  • @TheMuni777
    @TheMuni777 Před 6 lety +3

    I get it but the stars wouldn't really be moving around like that constantly if the ship were just traveling straightforward. They would be still, like in the original, because of how far away they are. Unless the ship was like making a constant turn during the entire battle.

    Crazy the amount of people that think the Falcon was going slow or not moving for this. No guys. Space is big. Use your heads. Stars are really far away. You're not gonna pass them like that. It just makes it look like the Falcon is constantly spinning.

    Only thing I don't like about Adywan's edit in this particular sequence is the changes to the targeting computer for the turrets. Past that it feels far better thought out than the original.

  • @WolfgangLunar
    @WolfgangLunar Před 7 lety

    I always wondered why they weren't going into Hyperspace when Han and Leia are talking. Cause the film is saying that Yavin 4 is close to the Death Star, and why would they need a tracker to find them? I'm glad to see that point of view in stead of flying nowhere in space.

    • @thereturningshadow
      @thereturningshadow Před 7 lety +1

      HELLO???? Vader said to Tarkin just before that scene that they "just made the jump into hyperspace." The fact that Lucas fucked that up and DIDN'T put it in the SE version boggles peoples' minds. It only makes perfect continuity sense. Everything Adywan did in these scenes are what Lucas SHOULD HAVE DONE for the SE versions. Lucas said the only reason he made the SE versions was because the SPFX technology had finally caught up with the story he really wanted to tell, he fucked up by adding shit that didn't need to be added and NOT fixing shit that needed fixing, like this.

    Even though with all multiple fan restoration versions of Star Wars 1977 debut original movie. Given the SE, the prequels and the newer movies of the sequel Star Wars trilogy coming out now? I'd only go back to the original with the; Despecialized Edition or Silver Screen Edition by Team 7. Others include the Star Wars Hyperspace fan restoration edit prior to all the others etc.
    Basically; Adywan's A New Hope is what the Special Editions were suppose to be about, and i enjoy his remastering of Episode 4, for the past 9 years now!

    • @catmani2

      They are the guns attached to the top and bottom. The Falcon has no rear guns. It just has the top and bottom turrets and concussion missile launchers at the front of the ship.

    Adywan’s version is just better in every way. It’s honestly what the special editions should have been. All his decisions make the film a smidge more immersive in a completely unobtrusive way.
