    Definitely agree about the peak pay not translating into more per hour. I live in a very small market that is brand new to DD. 8000 people, and only four merchants listed on the DD customer order app. Peak pay is $5 all day, every day. Although, it has recently dropped for the dinner rush to $1.50, as they get more drivers scheduled for the area. I took ONE shift of the $5 peak pay, and was lucky to have a total payout of $9-$10 per order, but only an average of one order per hour.

The idea is to keep food in your bag as long as your clocked in within reason as long as you’re not doing any orders under $6

    DD is my side hustle to earn extra money after my FT desk job. I’m lucky in that I live in an area with 2 cities stacked on top of each other. One smaller city, and one medium sized city. A mix of upper middle and lower upper class. There are oodles of restaurants and stores up and down a 5 mile stretch of Main Street. So in my area, I don’t take orders less than $8, and they have to be less than 5 miles away (both restaurant and delivery).
    I’m doing better than ever before!
    I also quit trying to dash on the weekends, as too many dashers are out then, and I don’t get enough orders to justify spending my whole weekend working.
    Instead, I do 2-4 orders every day after work, and make more that way, and still have my weekends.
    And I NEVER dash if PP is above $2....that’s a guaranteed way to make no money here. Every dasher comes crawling out of the woodwork. I just end up getting upset.

On non peak days I stay with $7+ that are 1-5 miles. Decline everything else. On peak days (usually +$2 here in Orlando) i won't take anything below $9 and that's only if I'm getting nothing.

    When I first started I was accepting every single order that came my way until I started watching videos like this with everyone saying decline smaller orders. On the 1st day I went to try declining smaller orders I went to also try out a new area for me that also had $3 or $4 peak pay (I can't remember which it was) and I quickly found out why they had peak pay in that area ALL THE TIME. It was the worst area EVER, the distances were long, almost no one tipped, and apparently, the GPS doesn't work well there. It kept taking me to the wrong apartment complexes, the apartments literally had multiple of the same building numbers, it was the worst nightmare ever. I kept having to calm myself down it was so horrible. Within about 5 hours of dashing there, I made only $24 and I will never go to that area again. It made me not want to do the whole declining order thing because I had made such little money there if I had accepted the smaller ones I would have at least made more. That area didn't even pay for me having to fill up my tank for that shift it was terrible and I haven't dashed since then. Today I'm finally going to go out again because I need to save up money for a concert I am going to and to pay down more debts but I will not go to that area. I will try the declining order thing again but I'm scared to after the small amount of money I made. I also found out while in that terrible area, that whoever declines the order ahead of you will make you get a contract violation if you are the one who finally accepts that order and completes it!!!! I have 2 contract violations on my account that are literally because everyone else originally declined their orders and I accepted them. Because they declined it that automatically made it show up that I delivered their order "late" due to Door Dashes contract violation rules which is messed up. It took several phone calls to figure that out because they still haven't emailed me about them and it's been about a month of stressing me out and making me not want to Dash and get more violations on my account. Terrible!

    One thing you forgot: Drop-off neighborhood. One of the biggest factors in my market for the size of the tip is the neighborhood the food is going too. Sometimes regardless of the restaurant. Wealthier neighborhoods usually tip much better. Of course there are exceptions. I average $30 per hours just by mainly taking orders that drop off in richer areas OR orders that drop-off closer to high end restaurants. Once you drive enough you have a map of the area in your head and you know exactly which orders to take or avoid.

    • @timothyslaughter476
      @timothyslaughter476 Před 2 lety +7

      That would make sense but unfortunately just not the case. I deliver to some high end neighborhoods and the tips are average. Some deliveries to really rough neighborhoods with surprisingly good tips. You just don't know in this business. As far as getting good orders no rhyme or reason there either. Just decline and decline again until a good one pops up. I just love these tubers who figured out the algorithm??? Lmfao. The algorithm pings drivers who are active and near a pick up point. If you make sure the mileage is less than what dollar amount your getting paid and don't go above 6 or 7 miles unless it's worth your time you can make better money. Right now, the gas doesn't pay to accept any orders that aren't worth your time or miles you put on your car. If there is any peak pay currently being offered, add the peak pay to my minimum. I do go down to a $5.00 minimum if I need an order to get my shift started, but try to keep that order under a 3 mile drive. Only exception when I turn down a good paying order is if the destination is too far into Baltimore City. I don't like driving more than about 1 mile over the City line. Hitting 'confirm pickup' right away stops you from being doubled up. Ive found promo money is always for areas that have less orders. The key is "arriving" physically at the restaurant and clicking you arrived (on time). You can then burn a little time if there's extra before the deliver by time

    so i drive in the north suburban area of chicago and literary from 2020 to 2021 there has been such a high increase in dashes that its hard to even get peak pay. i literary tried doing orders of 5 dollars for 3 to 2 miles and its been ok... usually everything closes at 9 pm and the 9pm to 3 am are all luck with peak pay... my first week i did 689 in accepting anything of 6 dollars or higher... but when i used all the strategies on youtube... i lose 50 dollars lol.
    one thing i would add on this is also really just how are businesses around your area and how fast they can get stuff out.

    I just started dashing and have so much social anxiety... there is a reason I won't go through the drive through and place people's orders I stick to restaurants like Red Robin and I will not to grocery pick ups ... starting new I just want to get a Hang of the process and feel comfortable before I move on to double stacking and other restaurants that I never been to

      If you use the schedule feature to schedule yourself during the peak times during the day you still get peak pay you just have to do the research to find out when common peaks are so you can schedule yourself properly

    Stick around certain restaurants that's pump out orders , my local L & L bbq pumps crazy with dd orders , when I get order it always wants me to stack 1 or 2 more orders usually an easy 20 -30 $ and within a decent radius keeping me in zone

    About the only time the high volume, low payout approach works is during a Doordash peak pay promo.
