  • With colder temperatures in the loft I have turned my attention to work on the fiddle yard and station section, there is about 20ft of track to laying with a twin track that will flow over and around the layout, this is a first look at the mock up track plan
    Big shout out to

Cheers for the shout out Mark. Much appreciated. It was a pleasure sending you the bits over. I have found a couple of extra bits for the risers, so I’ll get them sent out this weekend.
The track plans look really good. I look forward to watching the progress and how it all comes together - Riggsy

Sounds like a good plan, as long as your mind's eye can see it...run with it.

Thanks Andy, yeah just one of those things look at it long enough and make the plan happen hopefully you’ll see it more clearly on the next update 🙂

I'm not telling you what to do, but I think it would be a lot better if you just had a double track main line and fiddle yard, so you can easily reach your models should they derail. For the upper section, which you can't reach to all the way round, I'd turn it into a roadway for cars and maybe a cyclist or two. Road traffic doesn't derail like model engines and rolling stock sometimes do. Trust me, your railway will be easier to keep clean as the track will get dirty from time to time, so make sure you have a track rubber handy at all times. Also, cotton buds are useful in keeping the driving wheels of your engines clean. Besides, there's nothing worse than trying to rectify a derailment that you can't reach at all. I'm just trying to help you make things easy for yourself, that's all.😉

Thanks for the feedback Kelly something I’ll definitely keep in mind as I go forward with the layout last thing I want is not to be able to reach and derailments 🙂

Thanks Tim, it’s one of those if I look at it long enough the plan takes shape and I can adjust things as I go, I’ve made a good start on it already and it coming together, I may reduce a couple of lines and when I develop the other side of the loft I can add more tracks there to make up for it

Hey Mark hope your well, your plans sound very impressive really looking forward to seeing it take shape.

  • @crosswayspointjunctionrailway

I think you’re gonna have a very impressive layout when you finished

Thanks Bernie, well hopefully I can pull it off think later in the year when I add the other side of the loft and do more open frame it will add a bit more, I hope with the top sections I can add a lot of detail I’ve enjoyed doing the scenics

Thanks Ben, hopefully I can pull it off, so far so good and got a few good days on it with most of the top sections now complete, each part will be modular too so I can take them off and work on the details but like a diorama

Going to be busy Mark one thing have you thought about reaching over 4 foot to the back track cleaning and derailing!!!! Cheers Al

Something I definitely have now thought about so I have decided to pull the tracks closer and maybe just have 6 lines, and when I develop the other side of the loft I can then add a bigger fiddle yard

  • @peterjackson-cheadleheath1182

Hi Mark The plans sound complex but good, hopefully it all comes together as you work through it all. Looking forward to developments. Thanks

Thanks Peter, the next update will show a lot more it’s one of those things that just comes together the more that I look at it 👍🏻

  • @StanoverModelRailway2020

Hi Mark. Well you certainly have a grand plan there for the track plan and have obviously worked hard on it. The only thought and slight concern that I have, is that maybe you have put too many holding area tracks in the space in front of the station that you showed in the video. Whilst I can understand the need to have the holding space to allow operational flexibility ability, you also need to need to have space for the number of platforms that you need and ease of access to get to things if they go wrong and uncoupling/coupling etc. Having said that, it isn't easy to get the balance right and you have to go with what feels right for you. Also, the camera may well be distorting things and compressing the space and there is actually more space in reality than what we are seeing in the video. So I could be talking complete rubbish. Anyway I look forward to your next video and seeing how things develop. Take care and stay safe, Mark.

Hi mark thanks for the feedback, definitely something that I need to consider going forward, I was thinking that I will try pull the tracks a bit further towards where I was stood meaning I can reach all the tracks, I have been thinking I might remove some of the bricks also from the disused chimney so I can gain access from the other side I did Zoom the camera out a bit so it does look a bit further than it is but still I’m at full stretch I’ll have a look at space etc maybe not as many holding lines as I can then add more with me building the extension on the other side of the loft. 🙂

Hi Mark. Wot - no AnyRail track plan (please note, other track-planning software is available)? A (decent) picture paints a thousand words!

    • @HemelDownModelRailway
      @HemelDownModelRailway  Před rokem

Yeah I didn’t really have the time to play around with it and make one, I had a bit of limited time off work to get it done, I hope that the next update you’ll see a better plan of how it comes together, plus I’m a little old school with a pen and paper 😬

  • @AlanReynoldsBucklandJunction

    50 mm per track = so 100 mm = 4 tracks = 4 inches. or 1 inch per rail / road :o) Al ...
