      @@antarcticorb9197 THIS!
      This was the comment I was looking for. Brad Delp actually sang his own backup vocals and then layered them.
      This album is my favorite all-time album, I bought it in 1976 as soon as I heard the first track. I still have that same vinyl album but I also have it on 8-track, cassette and two different DVDs lol.
      Boston made a massive mistake with this album. It was too good to be true.
      Here in Florida, back in the 70s and '80s we used to have something called the Superbowl of Rock.( Nine bands, 3 days, 15 bucks and camp out.)
      Boston never sounded as good in concert as the albums because the albums were mixed to the highest capacity possible.
      I think this is probably the first album that was so meticulously put together that it actually hurt them in concert because they couldn't replicate it.
      Boston went up against Journey and, Journey destroyed Boston in the final round because Boston couldn't get a complete sound like they do in the studio. (Well, the basement).
      They were good in concert but they were not magnificent in concert because this album, although one of the most talented albums ever put together, has a lot of lights and mirrors.

But I don't think I've listened to it since the mid-90s. It gets overshadowed by their other hits. Great song. Great album. Timeless. Sounds as good today in 2022 as when I first heard it in 1979 or thereabouts.

    Boston has literally been one of my favorite bands if not the favorite my entire life and I am 46. It’s all about that real rock ‘n’ roll arena rock style anthem style with amazing tones in the guitars and beats it’s definitely assembled by a genius in tom Scholz. And Brad Delp has the iconic rock ‘n’ roll voice to complete it. This whole album kicks ass.

    I haven't listened to this in quite a while but I must have heard it a billion times in the course of my life and it never gets tired to me. And for example I kind of forgot about this song and that it was the outro to the album. But I love this song it's fantastic. But then again I could say that about every single song on this thing. I had it on eight track cassette cartridge when I was in junior high which meant we could take it mobile because my friend had a car that had an 8-track tape player in it so we can take it out to the lake or to the park have a fun time and then blast it and on an 8-track, it will just keep repeating endlessly until you stop it so this is the kind of album you can listen to like that it really is. And then I saw them live in 1977 I would say fantastic, the vocals and the harmonies and everything were just top-notch. It was all just fantastic. And what really blows me away is that the ticket price including all the extra fees and stuff, it was $7.50.

    When I was a young woman I was working out of radio station in the pre-computer era. When this song came on, I would go into the room where we kept all the file cabinets and shut the door and cry, thinking about my mother recently diagnosed with cancer. Yet along with the tears I found the song brought me relief. The concept here is not a simple one. Is to keep going in the face of grief and loss just because you want to and because it's worth it. And I've always felt maybe the last verse was a reference to somebody considering ( trigger warning)self harm.

    Tom Schultz the guitarist/ organ player created this whole album in his basement anodize genius. Lives longtime/ foreplay shows tom Schultz talent on multi instruments.

    • @ptournas
      @ptournas Před rokem

      He didn't quite create the "whole" album in his basement, although a lot was done there. The guitars and keyboards and most of the bass parts and the early mix were in his basement studio, with a producer (John Boylan) flown in from Epic. The producer agreed to let Tom do his thing and gave him co-producing credit, but he stepped in when necessary. He flew out an engineer from LA to show teach Tom how to set up the microphones for an acoustic guitar, when John felt Tom wasn't getting a good recording of the acoustic. The vocals and drums were recorded in LA and the final mix of the album was also done in an LA studio. John Boylan gave Tom the same freedom of control that he did in Tom's basement, but he did step in and had some recording engineers help Tom when it was obvious that he didn't know how to set the microphones for recording the drums, and also when he had the guitars so loud on the final mix that they drowned out the vocals.
      On "Foreplay" Tom plays the guitar, clavinet and organ, Barry Goudreau also plays guitar, Franny Sheehan plays bass and Sib Hashian plays drums.
      On "Longtime" Tom plays acoustic guitar, bass, organ and clavinet (Franny doesn't play on Longtime), of course Brad Delp does the vocals, and again Barry Goudreau plays guitar, and Sib Hashian plays drums.
