  • Hello Everyone! This is Part-1 of two part video on Iptables. Iptables is a firewall tool in linux system that provides an interface with the packet filtering framework of Linux Kernel known as "Netfilter". In very simple terms, it is a powerful tool to manage network packets coming to and going out of your system.
For the sake of simplicity and easy of understanding, I am going to cover this topic in 2 part. In Part-1, we will cover the basics of using Iptable and Part-2 will be about command syntax and Live demo.
In this Video we will understand 3 basic terms used in iptables. They are
    1) Table
    2) Chains
    3) Rules

Thank you very much. I could not figure out why I could not get iptables working and your video explained it perfectly. I was trying to use the filter table's output chain to reject packets destined for another host (in a Linux firewall). Your explanation at 5:26 was exactly what I needed. I changed it to the forward chain and now it works perfectly. Thank you so much.
