  • Using SPSS 22 or 23 you might get an error when you want to look at the pairwise comparison of a Kruskal-Wallis H test. This can be resolved by using: set locale="english" in the syntax. The video shows how this exactly can be done.

You goddamn fucking lifesaver, you. Not even my professor knew how to do this, she said we'd just have to use the computers in the classroom rather than the workroom/at home because it was the only place it worked

Glad it helped. This was also tricky to find out and actually a bug in SPSS. I think they released a patch that should have fixed it, but never got to test if that patch actually worked. Not surprising that your professor didn't know, she can't know everything 🙂.
On a side note, CZcams has cancelled my partner program since I don't have enough subscribers (currently around 803, should be 1000 😞), so it would really help if you subscribe (and all your friends) 😉

Thank you, man. You just saved my life and my thesis. SPSS can be so frustrating and ambiguous sometimes.

    Hello.
Thank you so much for your help.
I do get the pairwise view but my tables are compressed, so it is very difficult to see the numbers and letters. What could i do to fix this?

      Glad you enjoyed the video.
Perhaps you need to increase the font size of the Model Viewer. You can do this by selecting 'Edit' from the menu in the Data View or Variable View, then select ' Options' , click on the 'Viewer' tab, select the 'Model Viewer' icon in the list on the left, change the font sizes, then click on Apply and then on OK. Hope this helps.

Ai, that's a shame and also difficult to help from a distance. So you are still seeing the same error? Which version of SPSS are you using? One other workaround is to not use the model viewer but show all output in the regular output window. This can be done by going to Edit - Options - Output tab and change the Output display method from Model Viewer to Pivot Table and charts and run the analysis again. For version 23 there is also a fix that could be installed, but I've never done that myself. It's available at: www-945.ibm.com/support/fixcentral
