John Deere 5400 Oil change, fuel filter and coolant test

  • Being that it was my first time changing oil on my tractor I figured I'd bring you along.
    Oil change was straight forward other then the loader being in the way.
    The fuel filter seamed like it was going to be easy until the engine dies after replacing.
    Like I said in the video I probably could have avoided this if I would have filled the filter with fuel.
    Thankfully I bought the repair manual. It had instructions on how to bleed the fuel system.
    Steps to bleed the system were easy. First bleed the fuel filter housing, then the fuel pump and last the injectors. Basically like any old diesel. Truthfully I haven't serviced or repaired many older diesels. Diesels with P pumps. The only one I have any real experience on is Fords 6.9 and 7.3 IDI non turbo engines. Those used a mechanical fuel pump in the valley and did a pretty good job at bleeding themselves from what I remember.
