You can always tell when music has not been just memorized from notes on a page, but comes from within a person, a gift given to them when they were born.
Beautiful to my ears. Strings evoke the deep melancholy spirit that resides in me,but must be let out. Especially now, after Las Vegas. Found your link on twitter follower. Thank you.
I remember the 1st time I heard Joe Conyers perform. It was at Curtis Hall and he was playing Franck Violin Sonata. He remains one of my favorite bass players to this day. Love ya Joe!
You are amazingly talented!!!! I loved the rendition you did of O Danny Boy. That was my late-grandpas favorite song it made me cry listening to it. Keep up the hard work you beautiful person!!!
First time seeing this video and hearing Mr. Conyers play. Initially, I was speechless; what beautiful playing. I've never heard this piece played so beautifully.
Now a decade later there is Mikyung's new recording (actually it was recorded six years ago, but only recently released), which I think you would also appreciate. But Joe is undeniably awesome in so many ways!
Beautiful playing. I especially like his judicious and very musical use of vibrato. Too many times I've heard otherwise great players fall into the syrup trap of an overly-wide vibrato on every single note. Thanks for uploading this.
such a perfect understanding and feeling of this music !!! congratulation!!!! nice playing and sound!

Bravo!
Flippin brilliant! Like the bow hold too
My bass wants to play like that. I think I may have been holding it back these past 60 years . . .
Awesome music making-I love your bowing & dynamic control

I agree...being able to vary your amount of vibrato is definitely a good skill to have.

For those who wondered: who will be the next John Mayer well, here he is.
Or, as it turns out, the next principal bassist of the Philadelphia Orchestra! (For another great soloist, try Mikyung.)
That's gonna be tough for Grand Rapids to replace him
