Such a terrible YT sports take! And to see that 4 people followed up by patting you on the back is hilarious.
First off, Perkins comment is really dumb. But to say "he only averaged 5 points a game, why are we listening to him" could be an even dumber comment.
He was on the court as a defensive force and to get rebounds. When he was on the Celtics, they had plenty of scorers and there was no reason for him to be scoring. Same thing for the Thunder. But to say he shouldn't be listened to bc he averaged 5 ppg in the NBA is stupid.
5 ppg is 5 more ppg than 99% of sports radio/tv analysts & talking heads. So going by your logic, nobody's views on sports are valid unless the person talking is better than an above average scorer.
I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that you never played in the NBA which means you averaged ZERO ppg......you should probably delete your comment because following your logic, its worthless.

The Heat despite their offensive woes in periods of the game were still the best defense in basketball heading into that finals. They threw everything they had at Jokic and he had an answer for everything. Bam in my opinion wasn’t even getting cooked it’s just that every option for Joker on offense is high percentage. Cut off the ass, he turns for a jump hook, shut that down, he’ll hit you with a drop step to the bucket, take that away and you get hit with a quick sombor shuffle. If all else fails he has Murray to kick it to off a screen for an open shot or zip it to the corner on a cheating defender. The man is a basketball god.

Nikola Jokic (Serbia), the best NBA player in Nuggets history, Luka Doncic (Slovenia), the star player of the Dallas Mavericks, and French center Rudy Gobert (France).
It can be said that the image that people had a quarter century ago of ``European players = role players'' has now been completely overturned.
Without Dražen Petrović, there would not have been as many NBA players from Europe.

Current NBA players care way more about stats that winning because thats what gets you paid today. Players can go an entire career without winning anything but put up gaudy counting stats and they get paid like they are prime Kobe. Basically every additional point, rebound, or assist you get trasnlates to another million dollars a year in salary. But being on winning teams and contributing to championships has almost no correlation to your pay. Take a guy like Kentavious Caldwell Pope. He was instrumental in 2 championships and pretty much every team in the league would choose him to add to their chances of winning over someone like Jordan Poole. But Pope makes 15 million while Poole is making 28 million. The difference in salary is almost exactly the difference between last seasons pts + reb+ assists.

On the one hand, yes, the world is structured in such a way that all these top 20, top 50 in any field, not consciously, but humiliate or belittle others. Like “Where is player A, is he worse than player B?” Already at this level of discussion, we often dig into the shortcomings rather than looking for the positives.
On the other hand, when you see how Embiid runs after stats , just so that the left streak does not end, and Jokic in the game with Detroit gives Murray a chance to gain confidence, frankly not caring about his statistics, in a conditional confrontation between Jokic vs Embiid, you take the side of Jokic.

I think that Nikola is doing this so that the front office takes a look at the players around him, to keep them on the team and pay them accordingly, instead of treating them as pawns.
Jokic isthe most important player on that team, but if he can help his teammates to show "Hey, this isn't the 90s but we don't have to rebuild every year, we have the tools and we communicate really well, don't mess the team up, we need no "stars", the team is the star" i'm sure that the team will win more than 1 championship, just like the 2010's Warriors that kept their formula throught the decade.

What's ridiculous is that Jokic got called for flopping last game despite being pushed by 2 hands, the NBA looked into it and said it wasn't the correct call but that's it.
He has been fined and penalized for this more than once this season, which is absurd because he only gets 6 free throws a game despite playing a ton in the paint and constantly getting hacked. If he doesn't react he never gets the call, but if he does show any reaction they want to say it's flopping. Meanwhile the are other players who get twice the free throws per game and react by jumping and literally flopping in the air like a fish all the way to the ground, yet they never receive any scrutiny.

Jokic is the new “Rodman”. What I’m saying is that he is taking on a role that he isn’t built for. Rodman was a defensive beast but no bigger than MJ. Being able to guard and shut down players in positions 1-5 was such a big deal without scoring.
Jokic is built like a traditional center but plays like a point guard. I don’t see him as a center that really guards the paint like Shaq or Robinson. Jokic makes his teammates better by being a playmaker. Getting assists first before scoring is a usually meant for a smaller player. Jokic is the opposite. He will end up scoring when he is open or when the play allows it, but he is such a great facilitator.

This came after a series of poor games where Jamal’s usage was through the roof. Jokic came out and got the ball to MPJ and AG and it was glorious. Jokic was backing up MPJ and trying to influence Jamal, and, it worked. He is next level.

So he is twice as effective from three point range as the best of the rest of the league and has 10 assists per game. He averages a 'low' 22 ppg, yet his play contributes to 40+ points per game. I have always been a Magic Johnson fan because his skill set worked to make the players around him better. I'm seeing the same thing with Jokic, plus the way he passes the ball is so unusual and effective. However, why isn't his team running other teams out of the gym?
