I do appreciate Stephen and Jon gives precious air time to fellow lesser known comedians and artists, give them young'uns an opportunity and let the audiences discover something we wouldn't have known about otherwise.
It's my understanding he earns less in his contract in order to have that kind of control booking acts.
Wow, that's an artist, willing to get paid less for creative control. It's easy for the network people to book big name people to boost the popularity of the show, it's for the arts to give a platform to cultivate the next generation.
Where has a musician like this been all my life?

This thread is clearly filled with a majority of positive comments applauding Victory for her extraordinary talent, but you just had to jump in there with some racial propaganda, and this is America so you are free to do just that. But please understand that you are probably just as irrelevant to her as she is to you, or to "most men"(or whatever you are) like you. And I would hope that those kind of "men" would be irrelevant to her as well 'cause there is nothing these kind of "most men" will do for her except make her life miserable. She needs to focus on herself and her career right now and not give a second's thought to what those kind of "men" have to say.
Unlike Nicki Minaj, Victory's ability to sing real music means that to do well, she will not have to depend on skin color, twerking, vagina thrusting, relevance to "most men," etc. Like most intelligent people, intelligent music knows no color. See comments in thread. Most are aligned with the sentiment expressed by Buddy. Cecile McLorin Salvant, Pretty Yende and many others are doing well because of their extraordinary talent and their classy music, not because of colorism. The main thing is to not let some self-hating jerk come along and boost his ego by breaking them, destroying their will, confidence, self-esteem, character, etc.
Victory is a beautiful bronze girl, who, fortunately does not have to meet your standard of beauty to do well, where the only thing that matters is skin color--neither brain, talent nor character required. Many people that have your kind of mindset, resemble a maggot themselves. You talking 'bout darker skin females, but I notice you 'sho don't have no image of YOSELF on this thread!
You don't get out much do you? If so, you would know that there are many beautiful bronze girls out there. Unfortunately many of them get destroyed, then ignored by the likes of you(It's happening to mixed chicks too). Meanwhile, other ethnic groups have certain members that are unattractive. It's NOT that darker skin females "darker than Nicki Minaj" are ugly. That's a lie. Some of what is projected in the media (sometimes purposefully) is not the full picture. It's that, unlike women of other ethnic groups--instead of having a cheerleader in their corner, darker skin females have too many self-hating predators (and sadly, in many instances, "darker skin" predators), seeking to destroy them, no matter what they look like. I only allude to black women 'cause that was who you chose to focus on 'cause there are definitely some stereotypical images that we could discuss regarding "darker skin" males(as well as "pale skin males," "medium color males," females, whatever), but why paint with that broad brush knowing that it does NOT apply in many cases. I certainly hope that Victory knows to stay away from your kind so as not allow such bullshit to brainwash, limit, destroy and thereby and control her.
Sorry for the lengthy discourse folks, but somewhere there is a cute little darker skin girl who might very well see or hear All Light's comments and believe them only to become yet another bitter, self-hating black woman. Marbolyze 10, as I see it, you're both saying the same thing. You were far more expressive in conveying the contemporary sentiment of the music industry and many of it's consumers.
I think that all that the OP meant is that BECAUSE of her complexion and her genre of music, she will likely remain on the periphery and not obtain commercial success because SHE'S NOT what's being marketed for consumption.
People who really enjoy ACTUAL musicianship and vocal talent are only going to find Artists and Acts like this at local "festivals" and venues that cater to those of us who love real music, fresh faces, and talent, who would otherwise be unheard.
