I'm one of those who actually likes Smolder's design, and his updated version that will be added soon. Dragons have always been my favorite mythical creatures, I've seen them in many shapes, sizes, with different facial features growing up so Smolder's design didn't bother me that much. I like how cute and smug he is, especially with him learning of his royal lineage. Reminds me of young Simba from The Lion King. His theme is also grand and whimsical, goes along with the idea of a young dragon fledging slowly growing and learning to become a strong Camavoran imperial dragon. X3
I enjoy seeing all the beautiful concept art and explorations that help shaped Smolder, even if the final product isn't appealing to many, but it's what Smolder's designers envisioned.
Remember the times we had login screens with the new champions as videos?

Like don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of Smolders design either, but if their goal was to make an interesting looking dragon champ, the current version is certainly the best they've shown. All the other concepts looked more like weird mystical foxes or cats

Why do concepts always look better than the real thing?
the same reason that sketches tend to look better than lineart
Concepts are perfect world, the actual thing is made to work for every possible scenario
in this case it's partly angle, the concept let's us see his mannerisms and not-a-cape wings and what they are doing more clearly.
They have to appeal to as broad of an audience as possible, without pissing off a specific demographic. So what you get is this simplified version of what the champ designers originally wanted. You might not like this current design (and frankly I hate the face still), but I assume you probably don’t find it offensive or despise it either. And for the marketing team or equivalent at Riot, that’s probably enough to ship him to the public.
Same thing happened with Brand and Thresh for Wild Rift where they needed to appeal to China (which is a massive audience that being said), so they redid their models to not look like corpses or skeletons. The cost of simplifying champs, RIP.
Mainly has to do with the fact that League has a top down POV
PLEASE do something to implement those themes in the game. They are so great, but so little is done with them. Allow people to hear the themes of the champ that does the ACE/Penta, or whenever you win you get the theme of the champ you played, or or or or. Just something
The only mod I have been using for league was to play the pantheon theme whenver pantheon ults and it feels so fun and epic to ult into people.

She is too big for the game, look at elemental and elder dragon, THATS LITERALLY THE SIZE OF HIS MOM, the reason shyvana can exist because she is a HALF dragon and they can adjust the size to make the size smaller because half dragon is more weaker than a real dragon. Imagine seeing dragon the size of elder dragon walk down mid lane. Its so funny 😂😂😂.

Seeing the concept art, specially with the face, really shows that they could've made it work, but at some point it didn't really translate well to the 3d model... Specially the one in 0:35
