- Firaaq is a political thriller depicting the 2002 violence in Gujarat, India, and looks at the repercussion in terms of the effects on the lives of people. It follows the life of ordinary people, some who were victims, some silent observers and some perpetrators, a month after the violence in Gujarat.

The child is sooo cute he has played his character in well manner.
It moved me to tears. But it wasn't emotionally untruthful. It is powerful and potent storytelling, a stark testament to a dehumanizing episode that puts us all to shame, of what we allowed to happen. Nandita das has made a film that is haunting and heartbreaking and generates a rage.. The casting is spot on.

दरअसल, Action का Reaction है फिल्म- फिराक़। जिसमें इस उन्माद (action) का प्रारम्भ भी दिखाया जाता तो बात ही कुछ और होती। लेकिन यह दिखाना नन्दिता जी का agenda नहीं। क्योंकि एक वर्ग पर सहानुभूति और दूसरे को आरोपित करना ही इस फिल्म का नकारात्मक पहलू है। अच्छा होता यह भी प्रमुखता से दिखाया जाता कि दंगे क्यों हुए? उनका सूत्रपात किसने किया? और क्या जन-धन हानि केवल वर्ग विशेष की ही हुई? नहीं। इसलिए न तो मैं इस फिल्म का समर्थक हूँ और न ही और न ही इस निर्देशिका का।
हाँ, यह जरूर कहना चाहूँगा कि-
सख़्त तलक तो ठीक है लेकिन, पत्थर होना ठीक नहीं।
हिन्दू-मुसलमां ठीक है लेकिन, कट्टर होना ठीक नहीं॥
