Fixing Tail Lights and Dash Lights in my Honda Odyssey (Brake Lights Work but Tail Lights Don't)

- "Honda Odyssey break lights work but my tail lights don't" This is what I typed into google to solve my problem...
I got pulled over by a cop last night because my tail lights weren't working. I thought it was related to the work that had just been done on my 2008 Honda Odyssey (got hit by a deer!), then I thought it was because of a couple of burnt out bulbs (because of what the mechanic told me), but it happened to be a little fuse under the hood labeled "small lights". For some reason this controls the rear running/tail lights as well as the lighting for the radio/HVAC area. Come on Honda! How am I supposed to guess that "small lights" means tail lights and lighting around my radio and HVAC????? You can label them better than that!
I've been told by viewer Mark Sutz (in a comment below) that this solution also solves the problem of the corner lights not flashing when you lock the door with the fob.

You're welcome! I'm so glad this video helped you. I wish you had found it before all your effort to replace all the bulbs! I'm interested in what the dealer says about your experience. :) Thanks for the comment.
In all the 'pro' or shade tree mechanic vids I have watched, this one just taught me more than any of them. Thanks for saving me $$$$$$
Glad to hear it! Thanks for the comment. :)
Thanks for sharing your findings with everyone. I own a 2002 model and like many on the comments, I too spent over $30 bucks in bulbs and was frustrated my dash lic plate and rear lights were all out. I looked into the wiring diagram for your small light suggestion and immediately solved my problem.
That's awesome, I'm so glad this helped you. Thanks for the comment!
Just wanted to take a moment to thank you for your video. I was in the process of checking fuses and bulbs in my 2005 Honda CRV. I did not know that "small lights" included the tail lights. Honda seems to have a number of combinations in their electrical systems. In any case, your video helped me by saving me time.
You're welcome, l'm glad it helped you out! Thanks for the comment.
This video saved me $350! My lights were out changed the “small lights” fuse and it worked! Thank you!
So glad the video helped you! Thanks for the comment!
My husband and I were thinking a fuse too, but I started with the fuse box inside the car. Thanks for doing this video, it made it so much easier for me to fix the problem!
You're welcome. I'm glad to hear the video helped. Thanks for the comment!
Literally watching this three years later on Thanksgiving what are the odds 😂 super helpful!
Awesome! Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much! You are a heaven sent! Some of these videos that people post don’t tell you exactly where the fuse is you did a great job on this video keep up the good work
Thanks! So glad this video helped you. Thanks for the comment! :)
Thank you!!! I have a 2008 Honda Ridgeline and have the exact same problem..... Dash lights tail lights and license plate lights all went out at the same time.
I couldn't locate a fuse on the interior fuse box that was blown. Who would have I thought fuse for " small lights"
Would be the one to fix this problem.
Honda really needs to change their fuse descriptions. I spend so much time checking out the wiring harness for the trailer connection and other areas.
Thanks again !! you are truly a superhero!!!
So glad this helped you out. It was so random that I decided to make a video about it. Thanks for the comment.
Thank you so much I went and check every fuse under my hood and I found two bad fuses. I replaced both and now my tail light works and also my license plate light. Thank you very much you save me some money.
You're welcome! I'm glad the video was helpful to you. :)
thanks kevin spacey!
Iol, I get that a lot!
I was thinking the same thing.
In 2024 he’s Lin Manuel Miranda 😂
I had the same issue with a 2011 Honda Accord LXS and your video worked the same. Thanks dude! You’re the man for posting this. It helps a lot of people 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
That's awesome, so glad it worked for you! Thanks for the comment
Thank-you.
I had the same problem. So I spent a couple of hours checking all fuses until I look for a CZcams clue, and I found your video and followed your suggestions and !!WALA!! problem solved. Thanks again.
That's awesome, so glad it helped you out! Thanks for the comment.
Morgan! Thank you! This is our problem as well. We were coming home from Christmas Eve dinner, and a cop told up we had no taillights! I'll go check this fuse. Thank you for posting this video.

Thank you so much - this also solves the problem of the corner lights not working when you lock the door with the fob, a solution I could find nowhere else online.
You're welcome! Glad the video helped you. I didn't realize it helps the corner lights as well, I'll add that to the description. Thanks for the comment. :)
Really? We have that problem too! So glad this fixes that as well.
Thank you for this video, I am now having the same issue with my Odyssey and this will save me some $$$$. God bless you for posting

Glad the video helped you out. Thanks for the comment!
“Yup”
Perfect video! Thank You 🙏🏽
You're welcome, thanks for the comment!
you are doing great work. Helped me fix my 2006 prius. Had the exact same issue as you. checked the fuse box under my steering wheel and I dont know how the 10amp Tail slot had no fuse in it. I put a 10amp fuse and now its fixed and I have running tail lights. I dont know how long I have been driving dark for. I drive every day at night and I only noticed, because I got pulled over by the Police. Been watching so many videos of Police smoking people for nothing, I was scared to move or grab my license out my pocket. I am white in a upper middle class city in the bay area where homes are 2 million, so I shouldnt.
Thanks! I'm glad the video helped you out. Good to hear it works in the Prius as well. Seems like I find out about my burnt out lights from cops as well! Thanks for the comment. :)
You are a hero my man! Have an '05 accord and my tail lights/tag lights went out and couldn't figure out why or what fuse it was to look into it! Saw this, found the broken fuse and replaced it! All lights working again! Thank you so much for this video!
Thanks! I love hearing when a video has helped someone. Good to hear it works on the Accord as well.
Thank u. Happy holidays

You're welcome! Glad the video helped. Thanks for the comment.
Thank you sir.
This helps me. 07 odyssey owner :)
You're welcome! Thanks for the comment. Good to know it works for the 07 as well.
Jon, I’ve replaced lights in my dash several times myself. It was extremely easy. I encourage you to try doing it yourself. The dealership wanted $200 + for parts and labor. It only took me 20 minutes to complete the job.

Thanks Rubin, I actually got my dash lights to work once I replaced the fuse in this case, but if they go out again and it's not the fuse I will try doing the bulb replacements myself. Thanks for the comment!
I didn't have the same problem but thanks, this helped out
I'm glad it helped, thanks for the comment!
Thank you. This works on the accord too !!!
Good to hear! Thanks for the comment
Thanks 👍
Hey I got pulled over by a cop for no tail lights....after I got home I found you on Google..... Let me tell you... After an hour of checking both fuse boxes all looked good accept no tail lights and some instrument lights..... 2015 honda crv.... Guys... I feel so freaking dumb.. I even took the tail light off...
Turns out it was the most fricken obvious thing of all.....
I simply accidentally turned off my lights by the light switch 🤪🥴.... The 2015 Honda crv has its light switches on the turn signal switch and I just turned it off without knowing it.... DAMN 😖....
Glad you figured it out! Hopefully your comment will help someone else that just has the switch turned off. :)
thank you, you solved my issue.
That's awesome, glad it helped. Thanks for the comment!
Do your brake lights work on your hatchback? My brake lights only work on the outer lights.
Thank u same issue on my Silverado 2001
Wow, on the Silverado as well! Cool, thanks for the comment.
Thank you
You're welcome!
Will this work on a 2009 Honda accord? My brake lights work but my tail lights don't. I already changed the light bulbs and the red 10 fuse
It very well could. No harm in checking out the fuses and trying it
I have the same problem but it’s on a 2011 Honda Accord . Do you know what fuse I should change .
Sorry, I don't know if the fuses are the same or not. Have you checked out the fuse boxes to see if they are?
Same problem for my nissan maxima 2001, i need you help, thank you.
So glad this video helped. Thanks for the comment!
It would have been nice to show how you removed the tailight lens out. Thanks for the video
Thanks, and noted for next time. :)
If you need a video showing how to remove the tail light assemly, you probably shouldn't be doing electrical work 😂 just sayin
Thanks you
You're welcome!
Thanks
You're welcome!
I changed the cutted fuse and placed new one but it blowed too what's the problem
That's interesting. So the fuse keeps blowing. Maybe there's a short somewhere?
Same issue with my 2014 pilot but the fix didn’t work for us
I have the same problem..but all the fuse are not broken still i dont have park light and dash light...
Can you help me about it...
That stinks, I'm not sure what else to tell you, except that the bulbs might need replacing.
Now what do you do when that fuse keeps blowing that's what my wife's CR-V is doing keeps blowing the small light fuse
Hmmm, not sure. That stinks. How fast does it take to blow the fuse?
Did your lock unlock doors light work when it was out
I'm not sure. Where is the unlock doors light?
that is to my husband!
Any idea for center brake light ?
I don't, sorry. Let me know if you figure it out.
Are your headlights working properly before this problem
What I forgot to say in the video is that a deer hit the van and smashed one of the headlights. That's why it was in the shop. So only one headlight was working.
Oh wow! That's crazy!
Yeah, I should have mentioned the deer running into the van which is why it went into the shop to begin with!
What if it still doesnt work? Fuse looks okay but right tail light is still off but inly break lights are okay
I assume you have checked the tail light bulb to make sure it's not burnt out.
Morgan Madness i did sir. Replaced the bulbs too, still doesnt light-up when lights are switches on, but works fine when brakes are pressed.
Somebody beat me to it. Kevin Spacey circa 1999 American Beauty. Great movie.
haha, I get that a lot!
AAAAAAAHHHHH,,,,,I remember back in the day when all you had to go was change a simple bulb Fast Forward to today you have to have a degree in electrical engineering to change the "Same" bulb
sad isn't it
Anyone use this for a 2006 charger
So you find a blow fuse and at first you dont know what to do?Lol how long did it take to figure out you should replace it? Not being mean, just thought it was funny
The van had just been hit by a deer and had work done on it. The brake lights worked but the tail lights didn't after getting it out of the shop. I thought maybe some electrical work had gotten messed up. Right, I didn't think of the fuses right off, I thought the bulb was burnt out, especially when the mechanic at the shop suggested that might be the problem. I then checked the fuse after doing a search online. So it took some troubleshooting to figure out it was the fuse.
@@JonMorganMadness well im glad you got it figured out. CZcams has changed the DIY game. Knowledge of the collective if you will
You misspelled "fixing".
Thanks!
Kevin Spacey
Lol, I get that all the time
