Let’s also not forget that the image quality immediately decreases with the use of the telephoto camera, due to the smaller size of the sensor vs that of the “wide” camera.
I found out about the main camera app not using the ACTUAL 3X lens in low light just recently. I use Filmic pro for video which hard changes the lenses which is good. But I need one for photography, definitely gonna get the Procamera app. If I payed for a 3X lens I want to be able to use it when I want. Not when the phone’s AI decides it’s ok.
Some time ago i was thinking telephoto lens were useless, until i discovered what is focal length, didn't realise how much beautiful pictures can get with 60mm + than with standard 25mm lenses
Another great video David. Very informative and objective. I love the extra reach and background compression in the composition. The main thing I have had to adjust to is the extra zoom using Portrait mode. It is sooo close. At Christmas lunch, I found myself using Cinematic mode video for the first time, because portrait mode was not practical.
@@David_Addison OMGosh. I never saw the 1x button there. I assumed it was just the 3x. The 1x doesn’t look great with unnatural face distortion. However, that’s fantastic. You are a wealth of knowledge mate!
@@David_Addison David does the depth mode to take a self portrait selfie photo of yourself, is it better with using Halide Camera App or the iPhone 13 Pro Max stock camera App that comes free and installed on the iPhone 13 Pro Max, Please can you do a review of iPhone 13 Pro Max Camera vs Halide Camera App as I can't see any videos on CZcams comparing them side by side.
I’ve had to switch to using ProCamera for most of my photos with my 13 pro. It actually uses the telephoto when I ask it to. All in all though, I’ve been pretty disappointed in the 13 pro’s camera and especially the photo processing when not using ProRaw.
When I was testing HEIC and JPEG I find the processing alright but yes you're right, unless you're shooting in extreme lighting situations I doubt there's a photo you could get with the 13 Pro that you couldn't with an 11 or 12 Pro
i am just frustrated with automatically switching between lenses. most of the time i take a picture thinking i am using 3x but later it turns out to be oil painting.
Would be nice if the phone had a visual marker to let you know. I’m always covering the lens to check but then the phone switches because it can’t focus.
Unfortunately I have yet to find a way to force the stock app (which produces the most consistent results as far as I’m concerned) to use the physical telephoto. There is not much point in having a brilliant night mode when the phone will ruin the shot by using the 1x and digitally zooming in even when using a tripod.
Yes exactly! I didn't show many low light photos in this video because I thought I was using the telephoto when I actually wasn't 🤦♂️ In fairness to me I was confused because the tele and the wide have switched places on the 12 and 13 Pro series
I would like to buy a best iPhone in pro model so please guide me which iPhone is best in photography in iPhone 13 pro or iPhone 14 pro Please guide me which one should I buy and which one will worth for me in 2023
Really good and detailed video! I think the new telephoto lens on the 13 Pros is really quite effective than the previous one on the 12 Pro! I'm glad that Apple chose to put 3x lens instead of 2x or 2.5 lens!
Great channel 👍 just subscribed and watched several of your videos having just bought a iPhone 13 pro max. Up until now I’ve been using my old iPhone 8 & a canon 1300d. The canon was mainly used for macro so I want to explore more with 13 pro, do you have any advice on whether it’s worth buying a macro lens for the phone, or is the internal camera macro app just as good? As so far I’m quite impressed with the pics I’m getting tbh. Thanks for any feedback and glad I’ve subscribed.
What you're noticing is actually it NOT using the telephoto. Big bug that many have been researching. The 3x button is just digital zoom on the wide. Hit your info button in photos and you'll see what lens is being used

In the end, the real story is that optical zoom will yield less than a 2X magnification! Absolute scammery on Apple’s part; no 3X mag is possible in this phone!

Another incredible video David

Thanks Mike! You can use portrait mode with the 1x lens too

Great review, very good infos, thanks for your effort!
I always used the telephoto in portrait mode and quality is awesome
This is fantastic info.
Glad it was helpful!

Yeah, I forgot to mention that 3rd party camera apps don't seem to have this problem.
@@David_Addison you say that but Camera + 2 is the same 😢. Not really tried any others though.

You could use portrait mode to force the 3x lens to be used
Would love to see a video shooting only on HEIC/JPEG to see how it will go. Btw great video again.
One feature I do like with halide is that they remove the digital zoom option
Very informative video!
Hi, what’s the best way to get the telephoto lens working when you want it to? (Without the need for an app).

Thank you . Which camera app were you using please ?
In my experience, unless taken in really good light, the tele photos are noticeably lower quality.

Thanks for the suggestion! Personally I use the stock iPhone camera app for selfies
Hey questions is the heif better than Jpeg? I wanna know which format to put my iPhone 13 pro camera on
Nothing against a 77mm :) and the aperture is fine, as long as you know what you are doing. Nicely explained, still I am waiting for iPhone 14 :D
Yeah, you seem to be doing just fine with your 12 Pro Max! Love the shots you share of Malta
@@David_Addison thank you :)
When you take a photo on 3x it shows as wide angle than telephoto doesn;t it?
Please tell me which one better better for image quality heic or jpg?
Not really apples to apples since it’s the s22 ultra, maybe if the iPhone was 13 pro max with the telephoto lens it would be closer
What tripod are you using at 2:27?
This one >> geni.us/s5Yh5
4:50 very clearer or slightly cleaner? 😂
I will wait till the 14 and then trade in. I am hoping for 48MP photos for 3D photogrammetry
Now 10X optical 😂😂😂
