1966 my wife of 56 years dived in my foxhole during a firefight in Vietnam. She was a beautiful Red Cross nurse that every soldier, Marine, and Airman in camp hit on regularly. An hour in that foxhole visiting and I was in love. It took her a bit longer, but at least her wall was down towards me so she accepted an invitation to go to Hong Kong with me on a de-stress leave. We got married there by the Chaplin at the Diplomatic Mission, don’t remember if it was an Embassy or not, but we both caught hell when we got back because we hadn’t sought permission from the powers that be. Wasn’t bad for her, but as a Captain in Special forces (Green Beret) I caught both barrels. The compromise was that she would resign and go home to wait for me. By the time I had resigned my commission and returned home there was a lovely baby bump waiting for me😅. 13 children later and I wouldn’t change anything!!! Most wonderful woman I’ve ever met, mother and sisters included…

This song has always been so literal for me. Because these exact thoughts and things happened to my wife and I while we were dating. Our long distance relationship, taking the train 2 hours to see each other. Treasuring every moment we got to spend together. Then every time parting with just a kiss goodnight at the train. Saving yourself for your wedding is 100% worth it.

This song and "Need You Now" by Lady A literally introduced me to the band and the rest of country music, and the song is beautifully written and the lyrics so innocent and heartfelt. I love the little story between Joy and Brady, even if it's just a dream (or so it would seem). I literally want to experience this kind of sweet, pure, curious, and potentially far-reaching love when I meet a nice girl, I have hope that I will one day.

This song reminds me of someone I met when I was traveling with my cousin. I met him, a backpacker, during my last night at Siargao. Suprisingly, he’s an amazing guy and the connection between us felt so real. That’s why I have been protecting the connection even if we don’t end up together. I am taking it slowly and discreetly.
