Oceans have been rising and falling for thousands of years. The only reason why this looks extreme is because a lapse in wisdom has caused these people to build right up to the coast and on sand. This kind of ignorance is even more pronounced on the west coast.

The newer buildings are properly elevated so the important parts stay out of the water.
Everyone who lives this close to the shore knows the risks. I loved my time living in view of the ocean, but wouldn’t move that close again.
