guys update: a few weeks after this video was posted it broke my finger, got it caught on the output shaft somehow!
Great job! Back when I was your age we made go carts from ancient lawnmower engines. You might consider a fun project like that? I also loved the dead "red" 5S in the parts bin. It's not always an easy fix!
two years later I put it back together and got it running (sorta) and now I dont know what to do with it lol
this the most well timed video especially the end
oh i spent so long timing it within 25 milliseconds
The way he started it had to be the smoothest thing I’ve ever seen a person do
Thanks! its fun to start it like that :D
Very Nice Job! If you think this thing smokes, you should see some of my engines lol! I had a Gravely tractor that burned so much oil it was low in 20 minutes and you couldn't even see the thing anymore. It was like a giant smokescreen! Lol! I like the way you start that one! If you can do that, you know it has low compression!
it’s actually got around 65psi compression, that’s why i wear gloves, because it hurts too much if i don’t!
@@WildfoxFabrication Well 65 isn't that great but still more than I thought it would have! I do the same thing when starting my hit and miss model 9 by yanking on the flywheel. It can hurt after a couple of revolutions! I should see what the compression on that thing is lol. There isn't a piece on it that isn't completely worn out!
65 isn’t great by today’s standard but for a 2” bore it’s about normal and ya it starts to hurt
@@WildfoxFabrication That's true, I didn't think about that...
Maybe just worn out intake valve guide that is causing the smoke. Have you checked the slop in the piston and valves?
My son is 3 and just got his first engine. It’s a 5S. Glad your videos are up to help us work on it!
that's so cool! start 'em young!
Socks and flip flops! Good video!
Of course!
Nice one of my friends has a 5S did you get around to putting rings in this
not yet. as a matter of fact I haven't pulled it off the shelf in a while, I may go do that real quick and give it a 5 minute run or so just to keep everything lubed up
Down to a Science Nice how much did you pay for this by the way? And also does it come complete my friends was missing the air cleaner gas tank is messed up carb is messed up he doesn’t have the right muffler needs new rings and needs the thing that the pull rope goes on and he’s probably to get honed but it does run
@@noahduppler619 I bought 2 of them for $50. Tell your friend good luck with that
Down to a Science I found one on FB marketplace for 35 bucks that has a good gas tank and carb and muffler and I found a set of piston rings on eBay and honing it shouldn’t be too big of a deal just need the thing for the pull rope and some decals
Dank 👌🏼
Paintoration
it was already in great shape
how did you find the age of the engine I also have a 5s but I'm not sure how to fine the age can you please help
It's stamped on the back of the flywheel, two digits in a little circle such as "54" or "51" etc
@@WildfoxFabrication thanks i too have a small engine youtube channel
