  • We’ve wrapped up Season 9 of Sew Together Tuesday with a must-watch episode for quilters! 😍
    Our National Educator @TeresaCoates went LIVE from the Bits ‘N Pieces Quilt Shop floor, where she combined two things near and dear to quilters - Cuddle® and cotton - for this tutorial on how to self-bind a cotton quilt with Cuddle®. 📹
    The best part? There’s no hand sewing required, will work on any quilt size and makes your quilt super soft and immediately enjoyable (no break-in period)! 🤗
    And while our standard 58”/60”-wide fabrics will work just fine for most quilts, we also offer extra-wide fabrics in Cuddle® 3 that are 88”/90” wide and Luxe Cuddle® Mirage that are 78”/80” wide for bigger projects.

    Teresa, can't thank you enough for this tutorial. I followed it step by step and you got me through my first self binding cotton quilt backed with Cuddle. Very thorough and clear instructions and video. Your explanations made everything clear for me. And Hawk always asks good questions!

    When you stitch the binding down, is your needle going off the cuddle to the cotton or is it only stitching on cuddle the whole time? I have an old machine that can only straight stitch or zig-zag. Nothing fancy. I need to know if the needle is going left and right on the cuddle only or if it will alternate cotton, cuddle,cotton,cuddle. Thank you!

    • @ShannonFabrics
      @ShannonFabrics  Před rokem +1

      The zig zag is mostly on the Cuddle binding, but goes just off the edge into the cotton to secure it.

    Hi Teresa great video, do you use batting if you have cuddle 3 pieced on top and cuddle 3 backing

    • @ShannonFabrics
      @ShannonFabrics  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, sometimes I do. I like to use Quilter's Dream Poly if it going to be long-armed. If I am making it on my regular sewing machine, I am more likely to skip the batting. --teresa

    At about the 1hr,10 min mark, Theresa talked about using a layer with the quilting cotton to give it more heft, to be more equal in weight to the Cuddle back. She said it was more Cuddle, but to me, it looked like a layer of white mid- or heavy-weight flannel. Was it Cuddle?

    • @ShannonFabrics
      @ShannonFabrics  Před rokem +1

      Yes, it was Cuddle® in White. I did not use flannel as a batting in this episode. --teresa

    I purchased two different digital print cuddles for the top and bottom of a baby blanket. Would you add batting between these layers? If so, should I sandwich QD poly batting or another layer of cuddle in-between to give the blanket more heft? Also, if the blanket measures 30" x 40" and I use batting, do I need to sew quilting lines to attach the back piece to the batting piece (I'm not a quilter so that scares me!)? Or, in your opinion, is using C3 cuddle (left loose) as the middle layer a better option for me? Thank you.

      If you don't want to quilt it, the easiest way to use the fabrics to create a blanket would be with the Luxe Throw pattern we have. You can find a tutorial here on our channel and our pattern on the website: www.shannonfabrics.com/download_patterns/50.LuxeThrow_23_0112.pdf. --teresa
