  • A collection of old postcard images that depict the descruction brought on the town of Ypres during World War 1. Also the graves of allied soldiers that surround the town of Ypres - post World War 1.

Beautiful and a much needed reminder to everyone of the cost of War.

I've been to Ieper/Ypres twice to tour the battlefield and pay my respects. It has been beautifully restored. The city is lovely to visit, even if you are not interested in history, there is plenty to see, eat, drink and do. The people are very nice too. I did one visit in the summer of 2015 and hired a bicycle. It allowed me to see a lot of the salient of 1914-18 and was a pleasant way to see the nice Flemish countryside and architecture.
The cemeteries are very humbling to behold though. It was very moving seeing them.
P.S. I had a great grand-uncle who was an Old Contemptible who was killed in July 1915 just south of Ypres on part of the Yser canal part of defences. I only found this out after my last visit to Ypres. I hope to visit the site of his fatal wounding at Yser canal, and grave (in Boulogne-Sur-Mer), in the near future.

Please don't use the long dissolve between EVERY photo. It is uncomfortable to view, and annoyingly slow.
