  • In the "Trigger Effect" Burke details the world's present dependence on complex technological networks through a detailed narrative of New York City and the power blackout of 1965. Agricultural technology is traced to its origins in ancient Egypt and the invention of the plough. The segment ends in Kuwait where, because of oil, society leapt from traditional patterns to advanced technology in a period of only about 30 years.

Our PBS reception SUCKED in the 70's so I never got to see these marvelous shows.
How I wish my dad were still alive so I could experience them with him.

I've referenced this show many times. I used to love watching James make the craziest connections by the end of the show. So informative and well done. It must have cost a fortune to produce back in those days!

It's weird to see people smoking on an aircraft.
