Lyrics:
Saddle up, we’re calling up the pain
Stilling doubt to single out the strain
You came, you saw, you sawed her brain
You cut out all the parts that held your stain
Still inclined, you’re billing wine the blame
She’s crying now, you’re climbing down your claim
Sitting up, you’ve counted up your names
Is sin enough to bend ’em off the frame?
You came, you saw, you sawed her brain
You cut out all the parts that held your stain
You clipped, you clawed, to no applause (Weigh above, weigh apart)
You lost the will and bought the lye and gauze
So tried to be somebody
So tried to be somebody
So fly to flee
So long and leave
So hard to be somebody
So far to feel somebody
(You wreck, and then you run)

finally released - been listening to this beauty for years...
Justin's early work has carried me through a world of pain.. So glad to see it being revived and celebrated to this day <3
amazing to hear holocenes origin
I take this song as a troubled man that realizes he's bad for her, but she won't accept that. So he pushes her away and is mean and hurtful, though he doesn't want to be, but, he knows he's broken and she can do better so he makes her leave him by showing his worst. "You came, you saw, you sawed her brain". "So try to be somebody". He knows he doesn't deserve her. Good lord this hits home.
Justin is my favourite American songwriter
Reminds me of Holocene vibes
I know it sound like holocene but it's definitely its own song with different melody and song structure. Like a companion song or a reprise kind of
Hallelujah
Proto-holocene
This album has meant so much to me for over a decade. I'm so happy it's going to get a bigger audience.
Exploring Justin Vernon's older work a few years ago was an absolute joy. I am so glad that it is finally getting a proper release on Streaming.
Man I can’t wait for this
Glad this dropped after so many years
I'm so excited to get these songs on vinyl
love it so much
Ive used this on guitar practicing for the past 12 years
Oh my, this is beautiful
I always preferred this to holocene, it's so raw and nostalgic.
The guitar arpeggio is always mwah
I’m so happy this is getting the attention it deserves.
