  • A birding expedition to film as many birds as possible at the Waikanae Scientific Reserve in New Zealand! I had 2 hours and came out with a respectable 20 species - including banded and New Zealand dotterels, grey teal, and sacred kingfisher.
The Waikanae estuary is rich in biodiversity, thanks to it being so close to the Kāpiti Island marine reserve. Its a safe haven for native fish and invertebrates, which support all of the wonderful manu (birds) that live there, and provides a safe passage inland for breeding. To keep it that way, its been extensively replanted by volunteer groups putting in the mahi. I loved my morning here and highly recommend it to anyone wanting to have a peaceful time in nature! Remember to keep your dogs on leashes, as endangered birds breed there.
You can find out more about the Waikanae Estuary Scientific Reserve here: www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-rec...
    Aroha nui!

Really nice work with this video, it is definitely some of the best produced birding content I've seen on CZcams. The visuals were crisp, and I loved the choice of soundtrack and overall vibes from this piece. Subscribed and am excited for more!

Fantastic work Summer! This video was so much fun, I learned a ton as I always do and I was blown away by the cinematography! You got some incredible shots, seeing two shag species and a black swan in the same clip was amazing! I hope you do a lot more of these!

I'm always super excited to see a new Outdoorswithsum vid in the feed! That looked like a super fun and relaxing time and so was the video. Those banded dodderels were so cute!
BTW I mentioned on your last vid I was coming to far north qld, and now I'm commenting from there! I've just spent the past 2 weeks in the bush collecting wildlife cams with a researcher studying northern quolls, it's been such a cool experience
