    Mouthful of cavities
Your soul's a bowl of jokes
    And everyday you remind me
    How I'm desperately in need
See, I got a lot of fiends around
And they're peaking through nothing new
    They see you
    They see everything you do
See everything on the inside, out
Oh, please give me a little more
And I'll push away those baby blues
Cause one of these days this will die
So will me and so will you
I write a letter to a friend of mine
I tell him how much I used to love watch him smile
See I haven't seen him smile in a little while
Haven't seen him smile in a little while
But, I know you're laughing from the inside out
    Laughin' from the inside out
I know you're laughing from the inside out

Shannon wrote this song for Layne, i think. they were good friends ; Layne would help Shannon get his first gigs when his band was first starting out. "laughing from the inside out" and "haven't seen him smile in a little while" are lyrical references to how Layne lost his teeth over years of drug use, i believe.

    • @Allison_Chaynes
      @Allison_Chaynes Před 3 lety +3

@Mariana Frusciante it could be true actually. I do know that around this time Shannon was hanging with Layne a lot when he was living in Seattle. He was also good friends with Martyn lenoble who was the bassist for Porno for pyros. This was after that. I think it was when he was living with Frusciante. So really it could be about either one of them around this time. Cause Martyn left PFP cause of drug habit, and this was around the time Frusciante was going through his mess. 93-95'ish

Wish I known it was you back then cause I really could of used as friend but you could've even more with all the memories and lost moments we could have shared, and your stories are golden.

I'm a lifelong music freak, musician, etc. I've worked in the biz a long time, and I've probably heard over 100,000 songs. This is one of 3 that consistently choke me up. It might be because I met/saw the band briefly right before Shannon passed, but I don't think so. The emotional power and resonance of this brilliant piece of music, especially if you can put the lyric in context, is a rare thing. "So will me, and so will you" indeed, Shannon. Still miss your smile, but thankful we have your voice.

JENA KRAUS is outstanding. As she gets older, her voice is so true in the ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF HOURS sung. If you lose your FOCUS you can always regain it, but with an amazing voice, you must sing the amount of hours & with intensity, SINGING INWARDS always!!!! SINGING INWARDS with your WORDS feeds you AIR, FEEDS YOU AIR so you rarely take a breath is key. SING for 3 hours in a row as hard as you can and suddenly find you have 180% range or more. Maybe even 300% after 2 hours your voice gains more ability. SING YOUR HEART OUT if you need to or want to. I NEEDED TO ONCE when I realized I had been in AMNESIA for 17 years. SINGING CAN SAVE YOUR LIFE. SING YOUR HEART OUT. Jenna Kraus as an older musician that is very well known is possible. I pray she is well. I love this song & BLIND MELON and JENA KRAUS!

I remember listening to the radio years ago. Then the song “I wonder” came on. I was fkn blown away. I walked right down to the music store (yes they existed then) and bought the CD. It stayed in my six disk shuffle CD player for like two years!🤘🏼🤘🏼
    Miss you so much Shannon..

You guys are so amazing. Shannon was a candle that shone so bright he burned out early. Thank God we got what we did from him. This collaboration with Jena is absolutely jaw dropping. Their vocals are truly a gift to the world. That shouldn't outshine the band one bit though. Each member is just phenomenal.
There's levels to this stuff, and Blind Melon is literally one of the greatest bands to ever record a track. The musicianship exhibited by this band is very rarely seen in this world, and I don't say that lightly. I put Blind Melon up there with bands like Rush, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, any of the greatest of the greats, and Hoon's vocals are as legendary as they come.
Been listening to you guys since high school in the 90's. If I was born yesterday, I still wouldn't have enough days on earth to get my fill of Blind Melon.

I went through that same thing almost. I was living on the streets from 92-94 (just out of a 3 year teenage lockup by my own parents, well 4 places, 3 years) with a bunch of other punks and my best friend and I listened to Blind Melon constantly. We absolutely loved them. Had a huge crush on Shannon Hoon. For his depth and raw spirit. I connected so deeply with the words of their music. Got a ration of shit for loving them so much from our other close friends but we knew they'd love every word and melody if they'd just stop being punker than thou and f-ing listen. We just shared our headphones with one walkman and some tapes and lose ourselves in the feels of it all. Wish I'd been in a situation where I could have seen them live, I loved them so much. But I caught the pregnancy bug in 94 and it was time to figure out how to do life in a way too raise my daughter differently than my parents did me. RIP Shannon Hoon. Your anniversary was 2 days ago and you've been on my mind and in my ears and my soul all week, just like the days I miss so much. I would have lived that life forever. Nobody gets that. I was homeless. But I had the most intense friendships I have ever had in my entire life. I hate how things, people, times change.

@@bobbywalton5029 Now AIC I did actually see. Me an several friends (literally the summer before I landed myself on the streets) we went to Clash of the Titans at Red Rocks. I was mainly only there to see Slayer, another of my absolute favorites). The alternative kind of pre-grunge stuff like Alice in Chains were bands I liked but didn't love. I had a crappy station wagon with an AM/(FM?) radio so I would steal D batteries like crazy to keep my boom box in the car to listen to Jane's Addiction and Nine Inch Nails and then of course the standard old punk stuff I loved like CRASS and Cock Sparrer and such but my friends then, before I met the people I was on the streets with, they didn't like the harshness of Minor Threat of Black Flag. It was easy to compromise because I was a huge heavy metal fan and also absolutely loved Jane's Addiction and the Violent Femmes and Skinny Puppy and NIN. So Yeah, I dodged the "radio" play music. They never would have played (and didn't any of the stuff I was listening to aside from the heavy metal. But thise times were behind us. The 80s metal had eased off the cliff into perma-grunge and enough was enough with the "I like it because you like it" when it was my car lol. But yeah, I don't know where you're from but living on the streets in Denver in the very early 90s was (well extremely dangerous when you had a shaved head and were mistaken for being a skinhead with the gangs as bad as they were) but it was really awesome. We had an amazing scene, several all ages almost all night coffee shops and we weren't kicked out of the parks for sleeping there (not too often, the sprinklers were much worse on us) and most of the time we'd find a place to stay because the scene was big and rent was cheap. My how things have changed. But none of us used drugs. We were against that stuff. I bailed on my friends when they started getting into that because we had such a rule against it I felt so betrayed. I still talk to them though. Those friendships are lifelong. If you were there, you were a friend.
