I find it fitting that Burke and Blair shared models with the Pirates. Both are pairs of black painted tugs that threatened the lives of an elderly tug for money. Burke and Blair wanted to scrap O.J. for being out of date, and the Pirates threatened to scuttle Sea Rogue's Uncle to make Sea Rogue steal barges for them. Another noteworthy fact about Burke and Blair is that a deleted scene from Quarantine shows they came to the port to try to buy the wrecked Kraka Toa from Munitions.
One of the episodes in season 2 would have involved OJ encountering Burke and Blair in the breakers yard and they try to scrap him again, this time they almost succeeded. This became the plot for Stepney Gets Lost.
Fun fact about Burke and Blair's models when they were the Green Eyed Tugs; when "Pirate" was being filmed, the Green Eyed Tugs aren't unfinished models of Burke and Blair, but are actually repainted models of two Ghost Tugs that were built around the same time as all the other characters.
This is because, as suggested by early episode lists of the episodes and a recently leaked draft for the episode "High Tide" (called "Railhead" originally), "Quarantine" wasn't originally going to be an episode, as anything like "Quarantine"'s plot is not in said early episode lists.
It turns out that the original planned subplot for "High Tide" was to have Ten Cents and O.J. race Zorran, Zip and Zug to the Schooners in order to tow them in. When they arrive at the Schooners, they are revealed to have their quarantine flags, and thanks to Zorran going too fast to notice this, he ends up under quarantine. In the version of "High Tide" filmed, this subplot is replaced with Ten Cents and Sunshine helping clean up a flooded quayside.
October is always the time of the year for Tugs. This has been a great one, we’ve seen the Gomez incident for the first time, a restored version of Sunshine from 02932d and the Unlucky Tug has been working on an American dub, which is due to release tonight.
I think D261 and Spamcan could be compared to Burke and Blair more than Arry and Bert since they give off more snooty and uppity vibes that do the more business dealing stuff than thuggish and gruff vibes that do the rough and tumble labor stuff (like Zak and Johnny Cuba)
Imagine if Bill and Ben actually we’re evil “little demons” who’d actually scrap others rather than just pretend to kill Gordon, than they could be compared to Burke and Blair
Understandable choices right there. I guess mine were based more on their roles in the show as opposed to their personalities. You could probably say that they're a mish-mash of all of the above.
I always wondered how Burke and Blair would have handled the oncoming threat of Dieselization of Tugs as they themselves would have eventually been ''next to go'' in their own words. Given that they're soulless businessmen, they probably would have used their profits to convert their engines to oil burning so that they could prolong their enterprise.
They probably would have been planning to replace them with diesel tugs, which could show that even Burke and Blair weren’t safe.

We would have liked to have seen more of the show, full stop! I think I actually cried when Tugs ended. CindersandAshes, just out of curiosity, what would your fantasy episode of TUGS be? I mean if you had writtten the show and could make any episode you wanted?
Here here! Oooh that's a tough one. A few ideas I have mind would be a flashback exploring Sunshine's pre-established friendship with Billy Shoepack, something exploring Zak's character a bit more, as well maybe something involving dieselisation, which could have had some great potential. Apparantly it was planned for the Z-Stacks to have a diesel tug join their fleet later one down the line. Would have been fun to see.

@@paulinejhill6942 If it did, I think it'd most likely be done in CGI. I doubt that the models would be usable for filming at this point in time. But hey, one can hope

I always found it chilling that not only did Captain Starr threaten to send both TC and Sunshine to their deaths (bearing in mind both are considered the kids of the fleet), but had it not been for Ten Cents vouching for OJ, Starr would've been willing to send him to Burke and Blair as well.
Life really did hang by a thread for characters in this show. It's fucking wild.

I'm guessing if TUGS and TTTE exist in the same universe, then maybe Burke and Blair would be the first to meet up with the likes of Iron Arry and Bert to trade scrap parts? Just a thought, they remind me of Mafia characters or morgue workers, very unnerving pair indeed.

I think Burke and Blair's roles in Quarantine would be perfect for 'Arry and Bert in Thomas & Friends to keep their grim scrapping traits intact in later appearances, going around Sodor, looking for engines to be scrapped and make offers to take them away in episodes which would've helped their characters in the show, even in CGI. What do you think?

I love Burke and Blair. It's nice to the kids show had some proper dark and malicious antagonists. Zorran and the rest of the Z-Stacks behave like a pantomime villains, Bluenose is an officious bully and both the Green-Eyed Pirates and Johnny Cuba were violent, that was normally to get their own way. Burke and Blaire are sadistic enough to be violent just for the fun of it.
I would like to see more of Burke and Blair in the show, maybe a few scenes of them skulking around Bigg City Port, towing barge loads of scrap, similar to how we saw engines pulling trucks of scrap in Thomas the tank Engine. Maybe a scene where they have an arrangement with Captain Zero, selling ships which the Z-Stacks have salvaged. Or even a scene where the Coast Guard catches them in the act and they are fined or arrested.
Can You Do The Coast Guard Or Fire Tug If Possible?
I do plan do both of those guys ;)

I have an original story called scrap I think it would be season 2 episode 8 we have flashbacks of quarantine and we see that the breakers yard is about to close down for good in order to stay afloat they needed to scrap at least for tugboats so in the middle of the night they take Big Mac sunshine Zack and Zug Blair wanted to take old Jones as well but then it would be too obvious so the next morning Captain star Captain zero and all the tugs have a meeting Zip who was helping up River for a few days towed in the Coast Guard and he says he tried to stop Burke and Blair and then Captain zero rages about his tugs going missing and how those murderurs are gonna cut up his living breathing machines top hat thinks of an idea and they rescue their friends it ends with one of the scrap dealers chasing old Jones cuz he had a rusty old fire barge and when he lets it fly into a Munitions barge the scrap dealer is stupid enough to go after it and he gets himself killed and by the end of the episode the other scrap dealer is arrested and is escorted by Warrior Hercules Zorran and the Coast Guard
I want to see Scuttlebutt Pete, Mighty moe and Little ditcher next
I hope we see Frank and Eddie too. The show did not do them justice.
