- Hi guys! I went over to Colin and Laura's farm last weekend to watch Colin fire up the old White / GMC manure spreader truck and to record the first start this year of the Detroit 6-71. She's backed up by the Allison 4-speed automatic and is gently cruising through her retirement in the country, haha!

Yea don't mind me...l am just here for the same old shit !...2 Stroke make a lot of power.....Thanks Scott..Ans frankers of course
Shoe🇺🇸
Same old shit. 😆
What a spreader with all those chains & gears… they say there’s nothing like good health and safety and that’s nothing like good health and safety!!! :-)
LMAO !!!
can't leave it all up to .....priceless !
The shit will hit the fan , those trucks send it !!!
Tom's closing comment is finally the perfect utterance! That screamin' Jimmy is the bomb! Those old 2 strokes never die, no matter how clapped out their host vehicles are. Thanks for another cool short!
Well the CBC does a much more thorough job of spreading it around, but that old truck does it with more style and class.
The taxpayers don't have to pay for fuel to spread it on the farm.
cbc broadcasts the crap and ctv picks it up and refines it so it tastes better on your pellet so you can swallow it easier
So does the CDC!
love them Screamin Jimmy's just imagine if any truck companies out there tried to build a new diesel truck like that one the government would have 2 strokes and a heart attack 🤣
Bonus CWM mini-episodes are always a wonderful surprise - and this one showed me something I'd never
seen in action before, so bonus-bonus I guess. 🙂
Thanks as always, Scott!
- Ed on the Ridge
Holy shit! That thing just cranked right up like it had just taken a short lunch break, not like it'd been sitting around for 6 months! Wow!
Ha! Ha! Reminds me of my garbage truck driving days! In the outfit I worked for, a truck in that kind of shape would have been called "the new truck"
I grew up in Oklahoma and those oil field Haliburton trucks with those Detroit two strokes would come through downtown bristow just screaming and shifting every two seconds but hardly going fast at all and make children cry, louder than a freight train if there was three or more of them in a convoy. Just black smoke and hulk angry all the way. 😆
Gives "same old shit" a whole new meaning.
These midweek CWM “quickies” are a real treat!
CWM is spreading the poop both literally and figuratively! ;-)
I'm lovin' these hump day quickies from CWM!! Thanks Scott and Hi Frankers!!!
Definitely should have had Tom along being it's a manure spreader for the "Same Old...!😉🤣 Anyway, nothing sounds like a Detroit. I've watched Scott at Bus Grease Monkey for at least the last 2 or 3 years. He's the Detroit Diesel Master if there ever was one. And a master of proper GM and other coaches repairs. Watch his channel a lot and have learned a lot about large vehicle maintenance challenges for sure. Good to see the old Detroit still singing!
And along with Bus Grease Monkey is OL' 2 Stroker they take a '50 Gmc fat cab with a 8v92tt drag racing in Onaway Michigan! And boys this thing RIPS
That old Fraser is still one my favorite cars you have..
Very cool, nothing dies it just gets repurposed. Definitely sounds like any garbage truck that's rumbled down my alley at 5:02 AM LOL
The family company had a cabover Kenworth they bought new in 82. It eventually was rebuilt and had an 8v71 silver series Detroit in it I got to ride in growing up. I will always have a soft spot for the sound of a 2-stroke Diesel engine.
That diesel sounds very cool. The device on the back wouldn’t look out of place in a gladiator movie.
That is a pretty cool truck. Starts right up and does its job. There is a certain grace to it's crustiness.
Oh my gosh...two stroke Jimmy's..the soundtrack of the city buses of my youth
Yep, sounds just like the garbage truck that woke me up at my old apartment every morning. 😄 Old diesels never die !
These mid-week surprises are a real treat!
Wow! Teenage me really appreciates that machine. I used to drag a "honey wagon" around Grandpa's farm with an Alice Chalmers B tractor. The tractor had no electric start and the spreader was ground driven. Throw in the travois on the left side and I always had a great morning before school! It was my Cousin's job to hitch horses. Boy howdy, did I ever get the better end of that deal!
the old girl is giving back as good as she got. ...tossing it high and wide...
The marriage of engineering and artistry.
What a coincidence! Today's my birthday, and I wake up to find a bonus video of one of my favourite engines ever made!
Back in 1994 I bought a GMC Newlook bus from the city of Kingston and owned it for almost 11 years. It had a 6V-71 Inclined engine with de-rated injectors (N55 orange tag) that I replaced with N65 White tags in '97. I was really careful to review the specs and choose just the right one that wouldn't overfuel the oval port liners but give just the right delivery curve for the upright equivalent engine. Can't say I noticed much improvement with the horrible VH torque converter it had (you know the one), but it sure made a lot more black smoke! I love how those engines were built to be "Mr. Potato-Head" mix-and-matchable for all sorts of possible power and orientation combinations. There was a 6-71 "Inclined" engine built for diesel railcars that was meant to lie almost flat, under the floor deck (I think for reefer service?) that shows up in the service manual. GM has always made the best service manuals - they're written with a lot of general shop-practices information, like a high-school textbook. The only manuals I used to read cover-to-cover when I was a kid. And, of course - despite being terribly underpowered for their size by today's standards and being gross-polluters, the sound they make is absolutely delightful and always reminds me of my old bus. If I ever get a farm, I'm coming after another Newlook! Cheers Scott, and thanks again for uploading this!
"Same old shit" is the best comment for this episode.
The shit really hits the fan with this truck.
That old diesel sure as heck starts well.
Detroit Diesel engines are the living legends
I have a real soft spot for the 2 stroke detroits. Made my living with them for a decade driving a city bus in Minneapolis. I love how the sturdy old stuff keeps chugging along.
I've always loved the sound of those Detroits, especially the loudest ones!
Over here in England we had a lorry manufacturer called commer.. they did a 2 stroke knocker.. bloody awesome sound. They sounded like they about to explode before dipping the clutch for the next gear 🤣🤣
me too.
I love the way it starts up just like the 200-year-old VW in the movie "Sleeper" 😁👍
Classic Steve! Best part was when Woody Aleen pushed it over the cliff!
She sounds good! Love seeing farmers repurpose things for farm use or out of need. They used to have that one show which showed off farmers inventions, before the Farm Report show. Can't recall the name of that show but it was cool to see the things they'd come up with.
Prairie Farm Report was part of my childhood.
Everyone loves a 71 series Detroit… Detroit Diesel, the original green diesel!
You gotta admit Colin has some of the coolest toys!
And a heck of a big operation!
Detroit Diesel 6-71, one of the most efficient ways to turn fuel into noise ever created. Love your videos
I once had a 1941 GMC 10 wheeler that started the same way. Much to everyone's amazement. 6-71's! Please rebuild the Frazer before it breaks.
Takes same old shit to a new level on many aspects! Love those Jimmies.
These side trips Scott are great. That truck purred right to life.
I've worked on so many of those old trucks and spreaders I'm glad I'm retired now
Your mention of vacuum wipers has just motivated me to start putting my rambler back together. At least that half of the fuel pump was still intact when i pulled the motor apart. Thank you Scott and all the agents for the entertainment, education and automotive history you provide from right here in this province. The modern world doesn't leave much to look forward to these days, but your videos and shop time are big part of what keeps me going.
Got a 66 Rambler myself with vacuum wipers. People gripe about them but they are cool!
Glad you helped figure out all the starting issues and finally get it going! 🤣 That thing is a beast!
In Calgary there is a crane company still running bullmoose cranes with screaming jimmies in them ...love hearing them roar down the roads !
That Jimmy is a model example of ‘adaptive reuse’ and kudos to Colin’s foresight for adding it to his agricultural operations fleet. Also liked Frankers patiently waiting in the Fraser whilst the freight passed and the wipers flopped away which was replicated by the visual of the Jimmy’s tach….splendid midweek interlude!
Starts right up, it"s a Jimmy!
I had an uncle that was a heavy equipment operator from the 1950's thru the 1980's and he used to talk about hating the Eucild TC-12 dozer with twin 671 Detroit Diesels. The noise and vibration would give everyone a headache after running one for any length of time.
What a lovely old thing!
Ah an old screaming Jimmy. Music to my ears.
Great to see (and hear) the old girl still having a use and not just put out to grass 👍👍👍
Great video - would have loved to see how the dump truck mechanisms / hydraulics have been adapted to spread muck.
Ah a buzzin half dozen. Sounds pretty good too.
"My salad days,/ When I was green in judgment, cold in blood/ To say as I said then!" Another gem quoted by a man much wiser than many people might think. Well played Sir. (Imagine if the peak of your career entailed handling garbage?! I suppose spreading manure is a bit of a step down, but at least the hours are better.)
What is this from?
@@Gerk8 that would be Shakespeare's "Cleopatra"
@@LegendsWorkshop Thank you.
That thing is a monster! She looks like she could wipe out the Arctic sea ice all on her own! The old stuff just seems to live forever.
Sounds like you believe the arctic sea ice is receding.
@@amped5234 Sounds like you believe it's not. LOL.
@@nunyabidness9895 I know it's not
Thanks fit posting these mid week treats! Great content as always! Saw D.D. Speedshop put your sticker on the Power Tour '55! That really made my week, pretty awesome of you to support other CZcams creators! Cheers and Happy rest of the week!
'Can't leave all the shit spreading to the CBC'. Scott, you are my kind of guy.
I used to live across the street from a Greyhound Bus station back in the 70's and remember the sound of the Detroit Diesel very well. I just love the way it sounds like it is revving to the moon.
I drove a GMC CAB OVER Fire Rescue truck with that exact engine. You could hear it coming a mile away. I loved driving it.
Always nice to get a visit from Cold War Motors! Until Saturday,,,
Love the sound of those old diesel engines! ✌🏼🇨🇦🇺🇸
The older simple designs just keep going. She could use a touch of TLC, but, still getting the job done!
Suddenly the Same old Shit tag line became completely relevant. What a great truck. It sounded great and popped right off. Good to see watch axles articulating on the uneven terrain. Enjoying the mid week shorter format content. All the best, Mart in England.
Well I picked the perfect video to get caught up on also thanks for the primer advice Scott! cheers we will stop by for a hello on our way to Nick’s!
Fantastic 👏.
The "same old shit" ending was very appropriate
Sounds just like an old Greyhound Bus. They must have had the same kind of Detroit Diesel engines.
Gotta love those old farm/site trucks! As a general rule, they won't let you down, yet they don't win beauty contests either.
Cheers all!
Another rainy ,driving miss frankers kind of day.
We used to short haul harvest proceeds with a 70s vintage KW cabovsr powered by a behemoth Detroit V8 in front of 18 gears pulling a rusty old hopper bottom trailer. My old crank never fell limp for the duration of fall harvest.
Same old shit except your kicking it, don't step in it! thank you, ALL stay safe
2 stroke - wow. No wonder they all smoked so much!
Ha! That thing is super loud, awesome!
I got to operate one piece of equipment with a screaming jimmy. They are interesting. I like these short videos and enjoy the trucks and tractors on the farm. My dad used to say necessity is the mother of invention.
Wow, first prize for the most uneventful cold start.. love it.
..hi Scott...what a beast.....not sure if you've ever seen that meme of a hippo taking a dump, and it's tail working like a propeller, but that's what this reminded me of.....thanks.......
That cab was used up until 2004 or so and at the end of it's run was branded as "Volvo". You could kind of tell the era of the cab by what it was called at the time. The next generation of that cab is "Autocar" and it is wider. I learned to drive a front load garbage truck with that exact cab in 2009, and the truck was a 2000 model. By that time the Detroit was already long out of favor, and the L10 or M11 Cummins and 5 speed Allison the most common powertrain. The inside layout of Colin's truck is near identical to the 2000 model I learned on and drove until we moved here in 2012.
My garbage truck past was an old round cab White gaser with a rear load Leach packer. Pretty much had to line up to a post to see if the pack blade was moving. This was in 1969 though.
@@petercrowl9467 My current ride is a 2013 Peterbilt 320 with a McNeilus body. ISX Cummins and a 6 speed Allison. It probably has another year left in it. We're awfully hard on trucks in this industry...
Thanks for this neat look at CBC mobile unit #1!🤣
Love the Jimmy, I drove a flatdeck Crackerbox with 6-71
That thing sounds awesome! I could listen to it all day!
I know a certain president that spreads the manure better but this old truck still functions
Great episode love those Detroits and they mostly start like that if they even have half the cylinders working at work we have a machine with 2 4v71s and start like that after a couple years sitting some friends of mine had a truck repair shop ln the 80s they were replacing a dirty dozen 12v 71 they got from a wrecking yard that had been out of the truck for nearly a decade as they were barring it over while installing it the thing fired up thanks again for the mid week shorts
Spent some time piloting a similar White as a tractor unit to pull trailers. Drove enough 2 cycle Detroit's to have hearing loss. The COE will bounce you into old age, but they paid the bills.
A truck that shits! Only CWM could pull this off!!! ✌️😀👍
Love the sound of a Detroit diesel
In New Zealand there is a special exemption you can get for farm vehicles so you can drive them on public roads between different parts of your farm without them being registered or licensed.
I couldn't have put it better, Tom! 😀😂
The hell yeah I got the part where you said yeah see you Saturday for more of..... and then your good old buddy said same old s*** excellent
Love those Jimmies!! As a footnote, unless it has two stacked superchargers, it isn't supercharged. All the DD 2-strokers had a blower installed for cylinder scavenging or they won't run (because diesels don't make vacuum.)
Hi Scott I love the sound the old Detroit 2 stroke puts out thanks for all the content you put out I enjoy it all so much cheers from Oz
What a superb machine.
Real nice to wake up to! Thanks man!
Love the variety we get from Cold War Motors, that thing is cool 👍
That's a terrific turd tossing truck!
That SOS trailer works good for this video
man you really dont hear these majestic engines enough anymore i get all excited when i hear one of these screaming jimmys coming down the road ussually its a fire truck
love the screamer!
Wow did that thing fire right up! Cool old trucks are great. Cheers from Ohio
Just like that eh !!. Fired right up . Outstanding motor . Thanks for sharing with us . Cheers
From the looks of the ladder on the front and the view window on the roof, this was most likely a front load trash dumpster truck at one time and converted to what it is now
what a grat car... and runs´after so many years... save it !!
Thanks for the video Scott .
Manure spreader / right on
Looking forward to Saturday's
episode.All the best !
This was awesome. I've never seen something like it. What a treat. I loved the smoke pouring out! The engine sounded really great. Amazing. Thanks
