I just received mine two days ago, and I have the previous 12tb drive as well. I thought I'd share some thoughts that might answer some questions:
1. Overall, yes, this is miles above the previous 12tb drive, for some reasons that I'll mention in a sec. I do get someone's comment that it's a bit of a headache dipping and diving around all the setups to find what you want, but compared to the general "wow" of it, it's a small frustration.
2. And this is the main reason I gambled and got this: the possibility that it would work better. On the last 12tb drive, not only would a lot of games give error messages or not run, my biggest complaint was that Xbox 360 games, every single one, had a weird stutter to them. They'd go for a sec, slow to a crawl for a sec, go for a sec, etc. There were tons of great games that were just unplayable. After trying every remedy that the internet and CZcams had to offer, I just chalked it up to my not having a good enough graphics card (AMD Ryzen 7735) for 360 games. BUT, my friends, I'm here to tell you that Xbox 360 (the games I've tried so far, anyway) runs like butter on this bad boy. It's fantastic. Same (for the most part) for PS3, which, on the previous build, would either not run, give weird visuals because of "compiling shaders" issues, or would not give me any visuals at all, just sound. Couldn't be happier with this improvement.
3. This is the second reason I got this one: more games in several key collections on this build. Many more, in some cases. Previous Nintendo Switch count: 62. New count: 203! Previous PS3 count: 23. New count: 172!
4. The build just runs better overall than the last one. I'm not a huge tech-head when it comes to these, but I'm wondering if the organization, with the different front ends and section choices (like giving Teknoparrot it's own section, for instance), helps the stability. Also, one of the big problems with just having Hyperspin on the previous drive was that not everything runs smoothly or has adjustments to emulators and controls that work on Hyperspin. On this build, I've seen several cases where a game wouldn't work from one frontend, but would work perfectly from another. If you only have one frontend to work with, you might be stuck with a game that just won't play. So far, I've had very few games that just won't run. A FEW have glitches or freezes that have made them unplayable, but there are very few games so far (the new TMNT game, Shredders Revenge, is unfortunately one of these) that just won't run or gives an error message like the last drive. But, it's early in my time with it. It's Friday, and I'll give the system a more thorough look this weekend.
5. It looks like several games, mostly PC games, that were on the last one got omitted, I guess to make room for more late-generation games for PS3 and such. As RetroGamingGuy says in the video, Playnite has 45 games, but the selection won't really blow you away. On the last build, there were some really great PC game options (I got obsessed with a Cobra Kai game), so that's a shame. Ditto if you are looking for a bunch of MS-DOS games. They're not trying to pass off a bunch of PC games as PS4 games this time, thank goodness, but it sucks that these games aren't even here at all.
I think that covers my main impressions. I'm thrilled with this new one so far. I might do an update here after this weekend.
Yes thank you for the info! I have been weighing them for a while..still kinda am lol. Where did you buy?
Also I did notice major dip in original xbox titles: old had 627, this new one only 62. Did they narrow to xbox exclusive titles or do you know if the lack of games are covered on other console libraries?
Thank you for sharing and for taking this leap of faith on the new build.
Thanks for the detailed review , look forward to hearing your thoughts after spending more time on it .
Just wondering if you ordered from a particular seller on AliExpress ? I find there website so confusing tbh .
I'm interested in Switch, Tecknoparrot and pc....how's game count on tecknoparrot please? Mario kart DX/GP on there? Can you do updates on this drive, especially tecknoparrot or does that balls up the system?... Pete 🇬🇧👍🏻
@@petesilvers5053 Teknoparrot has 126 games. Unfortunately the MarioKart one isn’t one of them, but I want to say it’s in another collection on this drive. I can double check and get back to you later today. So far the Switch games run great, except for Shredder’s Revenge and Mario Tennis Aces, and except for having to deal with some of them being in Japanese, and you have to google or fiddle around to figure out how to change the language.
The count for Retrobat was there at the top and center before you made the change
Yeah, no idea how he missed that 😂

This section of info was very helpful, I haven't seen anyone cover one of these 12tb drives and explain really what it will take to play everything. Usually they brush over it like "it wasn't too bad to set up, shouldn't be an issue." but based on what I'm hearing it most certainly would present something of an issue for plenty of people.
Most people that know how to obtain all these files and emulators probably won't be as interested in these devices because they could literally do it themselves, I on the other hand feel like people are talking a different language sometimes when it comes to explaining things about putting different file types and where to put them. It's been over 20 years since I last messed around with emulation and at the time it was a novelty and PS2 wasn't even 1 year old yet.
Thank You for making these videos and being thorough with the information.
😄👍
Thanks for the kind words. I try to be thorough and honest with these. They have a lot of cool things but nothing is ever as easy as we'd like it to be. Lots of moving parts means lots of headaches sometimes.
@@RetroGamingGuy you got that right, these things are just on the verge of "too good to be true".
I actually just received a different KinHank item today, it's the Super Console Box X3, the one that looks like a small NES with 4 USB ports where the cartridge would normally go.
I picked it up because it's also got WiFi and an entire streaming interface on a separate card and in this case it's quite literally plug and play covering everything up to PSP for under $150.
I haven't had a working PC in over 6 years and after hearing about the Nintendo and Sega takedowns (of ROM files) I thought it'd be smart to at least get something reliable and self contained without a bunch of moving parts to run before they start coming after all ROM sources.
Ultimately I would like to get one of these 12tb type of drives, do you know if the sales page details what it would take to run everything on it?
@RetroGamingGuy hello good tutorial thank you I bought this but when I trade to play any emulador or any games is have one error and I can not play any games and any emulador
The errors sey
Cannot find E arcade Utilities Joy tokey any solution thank you
I have watched this whole video and compared this device to the previous 12TB Kinhank one and discovered that for most of the consoles, this one has a few more games than the previous 12TB drive, but for several of them, they're the same amount as this one. It looks like this one is overall better tho. I can't speak on performance of the games and malware, but it seems like this is the better overall option.
Thanks for this video. I just purchased this drive. I love how you broke down the different sections and front ends. I think this drive will give me the files and the resources to make my own game builds.
Very thankful for what you do man
Thorough as always Retro guy. Thank you so much.
thank you!
I appreciate it. Just ordered one thanks to you. 🙏🏾
I hate to say it but I really really really like this setup It gives basically you're getting your same game list for off front ends but you're getting the front end of choice that you like the best. And for me who has all three setups anyway and I use this different systems on different front ends Man this is a dream for me
Drive offers a lot for the price. Definitely seems like a solid option.
Planning on getting one too,by the way awesome video bro keep up the good work i love your contents.
Thanks
Still prefer the original 12tb from Kinhank with the straight Hyperspin/Rocketlauncher set up. For me, there are too many menus to dip in and out of here. Great review, enjoyed it!
Would it be practical to use this drive to build a much reduced custom ssd from? That would make it an offline backup. Ever thought about a series of shorts here where you show how to setup each of these subsystems that you know how to setup controls and other gotchas for...then people could pick and choose what they need. Great content for those of us building a cab. THANKS!
Everyone might as well sell their real physical collection and buy this, You are set for life lmao.
I have this 12Tb has all consoles with tons of games with the exception of PS5 and Xbox X/S
does it actually have a good selection of each console tho? like quality not quantity
Didn't see pinball games?
Could you please confirm...just ordered and looking forward to playing some
WOW WOW WOW wot more can a retro dude say !!!! im blown away ps kims a don
Is there a games list posted somewhere? Favorite arcade mame/games are time crisis 2, gauntlet legends and original killer instinct
@RetroGamingGuy would you say this one is better than the kinhank hyperspin 12 Tb hard drive that youve covered in previous video???
I’ve got the same question
I was wondering this too!!! 👍👍
Ditto! 🤷♂️
See a post earlier , gives a good insight into why he thinks it's better than the hyperspin one .
Come on answer please
A great tour of the game drive! It's a shame some took too long to load and that'll be why there aren't many AAA titles included.
Man that Wrestle Mania modded 1up is sweet. Have you tried installing the HDD in your gaming PC to get a bit more speed out of it? I would think direct connection to SATA vs USB could improve loading times even with the HDD being the bottleneck.
Hey nice video. Did you test the drive and see how many hours are on it to see if its used or new? Whats the date on the drive as well? Thanks
Great channel btw!
Thanks !
I got the previous one there is so much but this one looks like it is organized better. I would love to be able to hide some
yeah! I have been researching how to hide wheels/games - the interface is so messy!
You have to plug in the device and press the power button. Got it👍
Being a noob to this stuff I'd like to get a drive with AAA titles & PS3, PS4 collections on one of these larger 12tb-14tb drives. I just had my 1st experience with Launchbox... Not loving the game pad setup required for each and every platform within it, unless I'm going about it all wrong.
IMO gaming is all about fun and not having a few modern systems doesn't hurt at all, nothing is lost for me at least. I honestly have more fun playing the 70's, 80's, and 90's video games, what an amazing collection. Considering just over a year ago a build of this magnitude would of easily cost over $600
Well said and I agree. I just have to mention everything as many don't share our opinions on the more modern offerings. I love the older stuff so much more personally and if I get lucky with some modern titles that interest me I regard it as more of a bonus.
Great vid. I liked and subscribed. Is Neo mr Do for the Neo Geo/SNK in there? Pater Pack Rat arcade in MAME? Quartet Arcade in MAME? ALl the other Mr Do games in Mame? Lastly is Bachelor Party , Porkys, and General Custard or Custard in Atari 2600? Im new to Emulation, are you able to add any ROMS to this that might be missing? Or is it "you get what you pay for" and that's it?
You can add...👍🏻🇬🇧
thanks for the security check/info ... if anyone is really concerned ... dont connect the computer to the network at all or isolate it with virtual networks
Looking for plug and play, with that meny games or more
Fantastic thank you for the review. Just ordered one on special for less than £160 😮 hope it’s not a box of fresh air 😂
If you don't mind me asking , where have you ordered from ?
I'm assuming you are UK based ?
Thanks 👍
@@andyw0340yes direct from the AliExpress link in the description 👍🏻
@andyw0340 got one for 144 with shipping from ali express I'm in UK 2 weeks for it to be delivered
I jsut want the roms and back them up and use it for my front loader
Love the shirt
Could you essentially put this inside of a pc as well or can it run only as an external drive? Love the content you put out I missed out on your Batocera SSD you were selling but eventually made my own thanks to you and various youtubers on CZcams
You could put it inside yeah. Just remove it from the enclosure and use a sata cable
Would you be able to use this with a mini pc like the beelink ser5? Was just curious, thanks.
Yeah some of the more demanding stuff may be a bit hot or miss but you'd be able to play at least 85% maybe even more.
Yep I am buying
This drive is on Amazon too right?
I need a 12 TB SSD for my Xbox series X and PS5 and PC storage is needed for those
I'm looking to buy something like this. This looks pretty good and is around 200 dollars right now. Good price. My question is, what would you recommend out of all of the drives you've used? I have a pc with a 14900 and a 4080 Super so power isn't a problem. Thanks for any recommendations.
Do you have an Amazon link?
Hello I would like to know which of the two 12tb hard drives you find better hyperspin or the 5 in 1 thank you for your great videos
They differ with what's offered. This one is probably a cleaner selection but it's comparable for sure. The other has better AAA titles but I don't play too many AAA titles myself.
Thanks for reviewing these. I learned it might take you 7 months to put your own collection together. But it is safer and cheaper in the long run ❤🎉😂
Also the issue with putting your own collection together is finding games especially with the crackdown with Sega and Nintendo is finding games. Since they cracked down recently finding games is very difficult, i.e Vimms lost all their Nintendo and alot of others....
Takes too much time downloading and putting them together and making them work. Roms, Art work, Bios files, emulators. Too much trouble. Just buy it
@@javybeaz3236 anything worth having is never easy 💯
I don’t have money for that but I I have lots of free time 🤓
Will this drive work on an anbernic win600?
Can you use this with the kinhank super console x5 pro or do I need to get a mini pc
Is this different than the 12t drive you reviewed a few weeks ago?
Yep it is this is the new one.
What’s the biggest difference?
@@Jfuzzy85 the other drive is a Hyperspin front end only, this has launchbox and more
I just bought one, it has a ton of games but, still has a lot to be desired. Some of the game don't work or just freeze. Controller setup can be hit or miss for me. (Nintendo )
Was pinball on the new 1...?.just ordered! thanks
I have a different drive similar to this. But the switch stuff is giving me an error and Wii U Wind Waker in retrobat gave me issues because it was running off the internal graphics and my graphics cards was not showing up as an option to use. Also PS3 God Of war trilogy would load into a black screen but I could hear the menu. Thoughts?
For the PS3 God of War I would go to the directory with the emulator, load it up and then try to run the game from there. Usually when you are trying it in the emulator you will see the error messages for why it's not working. Then you can troubleshoot. Google the title of the game and the emulator and add "Not working" to the end. You may see some others that had the same issue but found a solution. Once (or hopefully) if you get it working there than I would try to load it from retrobat since that's the easiest front end to load games in in my opinion. If it doesn't work in retrobat then you know you have to change something in retrobat to get it working.
Dreamcast game count is at the very top
Damn now i have to get one😅
Are you getting to keep All of these for Your Reviews ?
Does it have 'Shining the Holy Ark' on Sega Saturn?
Where can buyed it :)
That drive is so tempting but idk between Fortnite, Wuthering Waves, Honkai Star Rail, Tower of Fantasy, and stuff I don't have much time or energy to play games "for fun" anymore it just feels like im locked into their ecosystem trying to finish battlepasses and daily quests or limited time events and grinding for whatever else so it feels more like a chore after awhile and then my PC wouldn't be able to emulate Switch, PS3, Wii U, etc but I would absolutely love it for those gamecube and wii and before systems but I already have a lot of those from either other drive purchases or from backing up my childhood physical collection.
I kinda care more about quality than quantity so I need to go through my collection and delete anything I don't think I will ever play on my PC but it's not really an easy thing to do when it's a large collection of random purchased drive games and I don't know what most of the games even are until I try them.
Is this drive sharable so that my android boxes can access the files as well?
Thanks so much for this, Retro! One quick thing, that promo code doesn't seem to be working right now, at least based upon the link above.
It might be for specific locations I'm not sure how they did that
@@RetroGamingGuy No worries, brother! It be what it be. Great video anyway...I'm sort of addicted to buying these drives, but, I need that Teknoparrot! LOL
Is there an even better drive that has all this but more AAA games than this one?
If so where can I find it?
😅👍
No retro MS-Dos or Windows titles 😢
Is it possible to plug one of these into a TV and play?
is this just for pc or can i connect this to my tv?>
Will this work on regular TV
Can I use it on my NVIDIA shield?
I am buying it later on. I am selling a nintendo switch on ebay
Can you give me the name of a device like this works on TV?
So I'm literally going to buy a PC so I can run one of these, I don't have a working PC at all right now.
What kind of specs will I need? I'm not great at figuring that stuff out.
😅👍
i5 and 30.. Nvidia card.... I've got i5 and 4050 laptop... All good
@@petesilvers5053 ok, awesome. Thank You, will having those also cover how much ram I would need? I know the i5 is a processor and the Nvidia is a graphics card, if I make sure the PC or laptop I get has at least 16GB of ram would that be enough?
I'm woefully unfamiliar with many PC terms and specs, Diablo 2 being 2GB was a pretty big file the last time I was actually familiar with computers and even then I wouldn't say I completely knew what I was doing.
Still this at least seems like the two more important things I will need to make sure I have, thank you.
😅👍
16gb is normal today.. tecknoparrot probably would be ok on 8gb... enjoy your gaming friend 👍🏻
@@petesilvers5053 awesome thank you 👍
Whats the differance between this drive and the drive at Drew talks? They look the same
I'll have to check out what he's got. KinHank has several of these out so it could be a different version. Visually they are all similar looking because their essentially just external drives you could buy on amazon only they've been prefilled by people with games.
it as at the top
So the one you reviewed a few months back is the better one?
It all depends what you're looking for. They both have a lot to offer the olde tone offers more AAA titles
Please answer my question. How do set you 4 players controller?
In each section your start button and can navigate into controller settings to map but some standalone emulators you'll have to map separately like ps2 or psp for example. Most pull over from the main mapping but not all
Thanks
What about all the games and all emulator ever made? Plus all the windows and dos Is there any system that comes with that stuff? Like windows 3.1/95/98/2000/me/xp and up I know there’s virtual box dos box/pure. I seen videos on how to put it on RetroArch but I like to know if there’s any systems out there that have them all like an all in one Where are you? Don’t have to do any work except for plugging in like these game drives. It would be nice if they had something like this for home theatre with all the movies and TV shows up to 2020. And had a program to turn your own movies and TV into your own personal tv app like iptv Plex but the thing more like Pluto on TV but for personal use
If you go to DrewTalks channel a few months back he reviewed a 100Tb or more set of drives in a bay for sale that was pretty darn close to having everything you mentioned. Maybe not all the windows stuff since that would be near impossible because there are so many pc games from the last 3 decades. It costs way more than this one.
@@peterstaklis3712 just a couple days ago somebody put out windows 95 windows 98 on RetroArch on iPhone. I’m still trying to figure out all that stuff.
@@peterstaklis3712 like this guy and it was three weeks ago he put out this- Play Windows 98 and MS-DOS Games on iPad/ios/ iPhone with DOSBox-Pure and Retroarch for FREE. Anyways on eBay. Some people are selling systems that has some old windows on it and they’re fairly new systems. There are new mini systems.
No MAME on something like this is a huge hole.
can we use wired controllers instead of battery ones?
absolutely!
What retro machine has every single wrestling game?
I’m debating if I should go for it…. 😬 a lot of fun and a lot of time to play….. should I go for it?
If you will play it buy it
@@gavrawlinson3099 I just brought it :)

Ok.
What is the name of the games playing at min. 2:55 I loved that game as a kid please anyone tell me the name please please
I believe that's Street Fighter 2010 for the NES.
Yeah, that does look like Street Fighter 2010, it's definitely an NES title.

Dreamcast games ?
What up yall
Ali express, nty
Would the drive work on a console?
No, just a pc
👍🏽
2600 games for Commodore Ahahah
Is there a seagate in there?
yep
can u play any of these online?
No
Im gonna knit pick here... the LB theme is very basic and the logos do not match, some are missing, some are clear, some are oval. Marque images do not match the consoles. Overall it is sloppy and it misses the mark.
300+ for an illegal console is unsettling.
I don’t get why someone would 80,000 games that they’ll probably never play. Like who needs 40 versions of a game?
All these disks are hit and miss, non are perfect and all have issues in some way or another
Does anyone that bought this drive have a games list?
The games list is on kinhanks website
I find Kinhank builds lazy, full of duplicates, and just full rom set dumping for profit. Little curation or attention to detail here. Better builds can be had for free. Just buy a harddrive and download one.
What are you talking about?? Anyone could figure this emulation out.. if you think this is complicated you have issues
You'd be surprised. Do I think personally it's complicated, no? But there's a lot of people who know nothing about this stuff or mapping controllers even. Very basic stuff for us is very difficult for some. Just being realistic for everyone. I've seen it all with questions that come in and frustrations that get aired out. It's just the reality.
You should really stop displaying Nintendo games on these hard drives because Nintendo is attacking emulation it's cool that you can get it don't ruin it
hyperspin on a massive hdd with lots of roms... so impressive... not a bad price for the drive alone tho lmao
That's a very good point. People often overlook the cost of these drives just to get them blank.
