    One thing a lot of people don't consider is that with a digital version, you're essentially giving PSN a monopoly on your games purchases and so you're forced to pay whatever price PSN is currently selling the game for. Whereas with a disc version, you have endless amounts of stores you can buy physical discs from, and so you can often find whatever game you want for sale on some store or another. In my experience physical discs are often cheaper than the digital version, so you can easily make back your $100. Don't give PSN a monopoly on your games purchases, buy a disc version.

There are three main reasons for it: In my country the new game is more expensive than the digital version, and when I have to move to apartment I don't have to bring all the discs since saving up more space is a must in a tiny room. The last one is, I'm getting less and less on buying games physically - it's so easy to browse on the PS store and buy the games using my credit card.

    I would suggest getting the disc version so you have all options available but I would also suggest to buy more digital games because it's very likely that the next console won't have a disc drive anymore. Most games are bought digitally and with the digital console it's clear that many players can't play physical games anymore so the push to digital is inevitable and if you care about backward compatibility you might miss out with discs on the successor.

    Personally I find there are two main factors that make the disc edition more ideal at the current time #1 Hard drive size in the PS5 is way too small most would struggle to fit more than 3-4 large marquee titles before capacity is maxed. Yes a SSD Card for the expanded storage helps the problem and since I install this I've had a much better user experience it is another cost in additional to the hardware and games etc. #2 Is more a geographic factor perhaps but where I live (New Zealand) the cost of new release games from PSN is out the gate eg: Spiderman 2 pre-order is $139.99 NZD for standard edition the majority of first party titles are in this same ball park. Whereas you can buy a retail copy for $99 for most major titles. I hate having to change the disks to switch between games but the saving on physical copies plus the 2nd hand market is worth it. Can still enjoy the sales on PSN for digital versions but if you want to play anything day one physical is the way to go unless you get free codes or can stomach the $40-$50+ incr in cost.

    I used to be vary wary of physical media back when my only console was an Xbox one cause I found the need to insert a disc to play a game extremely inconvenient since I was the kind of guy to switch games...but when I got the Ps4 I kinda got used to it and in turn liked it cause of the little things I could do with hard discs vs streaming like if I want to play an old version of a game with an exploit, I could just install the disc and stop the update but the digital already installs the patch included. My family and friends has a lot of ps4 owners with HUGE disc collections so we kinda borrow games from each other like books. So we all can try different games without spending a lot. Speaking of disc deals, in my country, the game shops sell discs WAY CHEAPER than the psn online stores like the highest cost vs online is half of the cost. And bottomline, it is kind of a rule of thumb for me that more is better and versatility is a good trait.

    I got Digital at launch as I mainly play PC, so I haven't bought physical media in almost a decade. Also it looks better in my setup. One thing I took into account was digital games utalise the SSD better, by the time you switch discs you would already be playing if it was digital. This is more noticeable on the new xbox with multiple games open at once.

      @matt5539 except discs can break and then you're truly f'ed lol happened to me twice, had to buy it again. No such thing with digital games, no disc swapping - ever since I got ps plus premium I really don't feel the need to buy physical games. But that's just me

    Haven't found one in the wild... but I've not been earnestly searching. I figure by the time I need one, the whole shortage will work itself out. I do have an XBox Series S... and am considering getting the Digital PS5, simply because I never knew if I wanted to go full digital until I played around with the Series S.
    Guess I'm not as much of a Luddite as I thought I was. :) After all, I still have my PS4 Pro to play physical games (and PS3 for backwards compatibility).

    • @ProperHonestTech
      @ProperHonestTech  Před 2 lety

      I hope you're correct about the shortage sorting itself out, although analysts are suggesting that things like the PS5 could be hard to find through the entirety of 2022. Hopefully retailers find better and fairer ways of making them available to more people, as stock becomes available.

    My wife put me on a waiting list, a few months ago. Recently notified about an upcoming sale. A one day only sale, at a specific time. No guarantee to get one. Luckily, we bought one. Got the disc version and a couple of controllers. I like the fact that they play the 4K discs. Saves me from buying a 4K player.

    Bro tbh I think disc version is better because on the long run it gives u the opportunity to buy used games on the ps4 and you’ll have more space. And on the digital u have wait hours for offers to get only ps5 games cheaper. And those offers might not include the game u want to play.

      A video is not needed for this question. It's quite simple buying the disc version will save the average gammer alot of money since you will easily get your extra 100 back and then some by being able to trade in your games and being able to buy used games only foolish people bought the digital version end of discussion.

  • @ElainaMaruyama
    @ElainaMaruyama Před 2 lety +7

    I bought the physical edition because physical games are generally much cheaper and you can sell them or lend/borrow them when you're finished with them. I've gotten plenty of free games from my friends who've finished with them, something I just wouldn't have the benefit of with a digital console. As someone who wants Gran Turismo 7 I also don't have to pay that £70 on the digital store since the physical copy has already dropped by over £10 and in 99% of cases games that go on sale digitally still cost more than the physical version. Physical media has its perks as much as people act like it doesn't.

    • @ProperHonestTech
      @ProperHonestTech  Před 2 lety

      There's a tonne of perks to having physical, I mention many of them in the video. For me, not having physical is purely a preference thing, I fully understand that I'm placing limitations on myself in many ways by choosing digital.
