Great video .. your giving away secrets and helping a lot of people i am sure .. in the process !! How can anybody not be anything but thankful for this information .... Eventually though theaim should be to get the work done fast especially using extension poles because of the high chance of getting TENNIS ARM / ELBOW .. So it helps having young blood in the firm at some stage ..
My kids a teenagers now. I’m hoping that they can help out with some of the grafting soon.😃👍🏼
@@aemackintosh Well if he has enthusiasm for it that will be a wonderful thing .. for you all .
I was thinking of using a device to support the pole called a elephant trunk they use them to support hedge trimmers in gardening to prevent fatigue on the operators arms.
Yeah, I’m not sure that would work as the pole mostly wants to rise up when you pull the trigger and you need to use a little force to push it down.😃👍🏼
Great video yet again! What would you say is the best pressure to run this setup at ?
Hi Ashley you've come a long way from window cleaning haven't you. Your work is fantastic and you deserve a lot of credit. You really are a Forerunner in the cleaning industry .
Thanks. I like to try different things, but window cleaning will always be in my blood.😉👍🏼

great video as always, also i think we would love to see how Paul is getting on :)

Great work.
What degrees fan jets did you select when buying your mosmatic? Or what degrees splay fan jets do you recommend for roofs?
Cheers
Hi Ashley, could you use an extension whirlaway lance with the surface cl?eaner
The small fsc seems to make the job look so much better in the end. I bet there is a mess to clear up after though :-)
There is a lot of work in the clean up.😃👍🏼
Very helpful

Nice bit of kit, have you thought about steam cleaning?
Yes. Something else to buy! 😆👍🏼
@@aemackintosh too right xD
Hey Ash. Great vid again! Do you find there's much additional cleaning around the property using this method Vs scraping? Thanks
Yeah, this method makes a lot of wet sludgy muck. We put sheeting down to catch the worst of it.😃👍🏼
Hello, which inlet fitting should be selected when ordering the conversion kit from Rutland Pumps?
Hi Ashley, thanks for putting this video together - I love this setup you have made. When you run the surface cleaner across roof tiles which have a very high ridge, have you encountered any problems (such as the spinning bar clipping the ridge of a tile)? If so do you have any suggestions for how this could be avoided (such as installing longer bristles to increase the distance between the surface cleaner and the tiles)? Thanks
Obviously just be careful on the lip of the tile as you come down from one row to the next. I wouldn’t replace the bristles round the edge with longer ones because you need the jets close to the surface so they are effective in the low dips of the tile.👍🏼
@@aemackintosh Thanks Ashley, I'll give that a go and consider modifications only if necessary in that case. Love your work!
Great video learn a lot more how to the Clean roof
Thanks.😃👍🏼
Hi Ashley. Another great video. I wondered how did you manage the waste water and slurry coming off the roof. It seemed that you had quite a lot to deal with. Also, I was wondering how you would survey a roof before cleaning, as the water could find loose tiles, and water finding its way into the loft space.
It looks like an excellent way to clean the roofs though.
Cheers
Yes the clean up is a big part of the job. We try to catch the worst of it with plastic sheeting below. Then we also clear out the gutters and rinse down pretty much the whole building.😃👍🏼
@@aemackintosh I am curious to read your response to the second part of the question as I have been asked to quote for the cleaning of a moss-laden bungalow roof that has >1cm gaps between the tiles.
Having not ventured into roof cleaning, yet, I do not want to get my first job wrong and ruin my reputation.
As an aside and rough guide, how do you charge (per m2 or per hour) and what do you charge. I am based in Cornwall, not sure that makes as as we have a broad mix of low wage earners and the idle rich down here.
And second hand if you have the kit telescopic phantom 35 ft and mosmatic?
Hi Ashley love your videos !! Could I just clarify what size nozzles you are currently using as in the comments section at one point you were suggesting 25 degrees and then later on 15 degrees ? Was the 15 degree an error or just something you have found better with more roof cleaning experience ??
Excellent video, thank you for such an honest and informative introduction to roof tile cleaning. I have subscribed to your Channel so hope to see many more of your videos. Have you done a video on roof roof coatings; that would be really interesting?
Thanks! I don’t apply coatings, I prefer to treat with biocide and help the customer with their long term maintenance.👍🏼
😳😃👍🙏Gracias por explicar super bien 👍 👏👏👏👏🙏
Thanks!😎👍🏼
talk with streamline they only have 22 foot in hi mod ova 8 where did you order your 30 foot hi mod ?
Can you use that on low pressure for solar panels covered in lichen?
Another great vid. Can you use the FSC on shaped tiles or only on flat?
I have used to on curved tiles too. You just have to be a little careful not to catch the jets on the edges of the tiles.😃👍🏼
Do you find that down pipes get clogged when you are cleaning roofs?
Awesome
😎👍🏼
Love this method. Just worried of water ingress into the attic. Does it depend on the type of roof tiles?
Yes. I wouldn’t use this method for every roof, but I use less pressure than I would on paving.😃👍🏼
Hi Ashley do you use hypo when your cleaning a roof or algo clear thanks Gavyn ,,good videos very helpful
No, just AlgoClear.😃👍🏼
Another great video Ash, Have you got the link to where you bought the 12 ‘’ mosmatic ?
They do it at Rutland Pumps.😃👍🏼
salut..
j aprrecie beaucoup ton travail.
pour la mosmatic quel degres de jet utilise tu?
car pour la commande sur rutlands il me demande en option..

Nice one Ash, great to see another method of doing it! 😃 Do you use a drone to do the top down shots or is it just a camera on a pole? Thinking of doing a few shots to show customers the difference before and after. Thanks!
I put the camera on a spare window cleaners pole.😃👍🏼
@@aemackintosh Brilliant thanks Ash! It looks great, will definitely be giving it a try in future 😀👍 Appreciate the reply 😃
True to your word thanks for the video
How do you quote for the job
Thanks. I charge per square meter.😃👍🏼
What kind of chemica you used for blackspots? Thank you!
Great video Ash! Have you tried the mosmatic fsc on a shaped, profiled roof tile? If so, how did it clean/perform compared to a flat tile?? Thanks in advance 👍
Yeah it works fine. I would maybe use a little higher pressure.👍🏼
@@aemackintosh Ok, great - thank you! 👍
Great video ashley, can you tell me where I can buy the adaptor that goes from the pole to the moss matic please?
They sell the pole conversion kits as a set. You can get it from Rutland Pumps.👍🏼
Have you considered using copper roof tape after cleaning the roof? It releases copper ions that create an invisible barrier, deterring moss and algae growth for years.
You can google Anti-moss copper roof tape to find a good local supplier
Yes I’ve seen those strips, they look good.👍🏼
Great video. What size nozzles do you have in the 12 inch cleaner
25 degree fan jets.😃👍🏼
The spin is sugoi!
💥😜👍🏼
Hi, can i ask where did you buy this setup? Looks very good sir!
Very good job mate! Im impressed about ure work and watched a ton of videos of ures. Here in sweden we got diffrent type of tiles, more curved ones. I dont know if the surface cleaner could take that but i think i ll can use a turbo nuzzle and a sturdy pole like u to tackle that problem. What do u think?😀
I never use a turbo nozzle as it’s too harsh on the tiles.
Great video 👍🏻 Can I ask, what’s involved in the clean up? You say there’s lots to do? Does all the moss fall off the roof to below and dirty water run down the house? How are you cleaning that? Lots of sheets below?
Also, I saw someone said to plug the gutters? Is that to intentionally stop moss going into the down pipe? I presume it all then falls over the gutter?
😊
Yeah, we use plastisheeting to catch the worst of the much. But we clear out the gutter, wash down virtually the whole building and rinse away all the mess below.😃👍🏼
Ash what's the best brush head do you think for delivering soft wash through an electric back pack set up? Ideally compatible with a Phantom pole. Cheers 👍
One with stiff bristles is usually best, hot water brushes have good stiff bristles. Use it with fan jets.😃👍🏼
Hola desde Chile, como se llama esa maravilla y dónde la puedo conseguir? Me refiero a la extensión o pértiga.
Hello ashley, whats the psi a GPM you use ??
What a great video, thank you. Do you use a detergent, and is it cold water that you use? Thanks again 👍👍
Thanks. In this video I used cold water pressure and treated the roof with biocide afterwards.👍🏼
Thank you so much for this video, So very much appreciated Ash.
Next year getting into roofs. What biocide do you use?
Thanks
Steve
I’m glad you found it useful. I mostly use GK Pro biocide, or Algoclear.👍🏼
@@aemackintosh Thanks again. 👍
Hello Ashley I watch your videos new poles you are promoting do the longer ones fit tradinal unger tradinal tools àplicators squeegees applicators etc and the stingray indoor ànytips where to get new customers nearly 67yrs but fancy part time work a gain good videos thanks xx
Yes, you just need the right adapter for the top of the pole. I’m trying to source some for myself, but you can get them elsewhere.👍🏼
Just curious the gutters need to be clear before hand to allow drainage, but do the gutters get clogged up durimg the process and/or do the gutters need to be cleaned again?
Thanks for the video and the info.
I clean the gutters out straight afterwards as part of the job.
Thanks good video. Wish you also elaborated on your pressure washer...which is the most reasonable to use
There is possibly a link in the description, or there is a whole playlist on my channel.😉👍🏼
Surface washer came off on a job I was on using a quick connect like yours. My heart sank. I was very luck it didn't hit someone on the ground. I now use a screwed fitting not a quick connect. I hope this helps someone avoid disaster.
Thanks for your comments. You do need to make sure it is properly secured in the quick release fitting.👍🏼
@@aemackintosh
I had it properly secured.
I have also experience the larger quick release couplings come apart on power washer hozes . Not a majority issue if on the ground.
hi were did you buy the pole from
I had a prior vent duct cleaning biz and I am trying to add this to it don’t know if it be a good idea? In USA Pennsylvania it’s kinda cold to do pressure washing- I guess I can wait around and see how it goes - yes but google is kinda expensive - I used home advisor in the past but now they down the tubes - digital marketing and maybe a web domain might work ?
Hello, you regulate the pressure of the machine to use, the plastic hose?the use that hose is by the weight? Thank you.
It is a thermoplastic high pressure hose.👍🏼
Fantastic job. 👍👍
Only wondering can this fsc be used on all types of tile? Thanks Ashley,
Kind regards, Paudie
The obvious answer is a flat surface cleaner will be less and less effective on the increasing profile of a tile
Yes, it’s maybe slightly less effective on curved tiles, and you have to be a bit careful not to catch the jets on the edges of those types of tile. I think you couldn’t use this method for every type of tile if some are too delicate.😃👍🏼
hi Ashley i am cleaning my first roof today - its natural slate tile - i am scraping and applying biocide - but i am not happy with results as roof still looks dirty - can you pressure washer the natural slate and slate tiles with that system - thanks in advance
It will take some time for the biocides to do it’s thing, then the weather will naturally wash away the remaining dirt/biofilm. Give it a few weeks/months and it will look tons better.👍🏼
Great video , can’t see the full kit you mention at Rutland pumps can you advise
They sell the pole hose and adapter with trigger as a kit. The pole and fsc you have to buy separately.😃👍🏼
Ash could you help with the orifice nozzle size? We have the same jetwash (21lpm) and have gone with 25° jets but unsure what size the nozzles need to be.
Mine are 25025.😃👍🏼
What tips on the Mossmatic do you use and what LPM and Bar is your machine? Also, what degree of spray nozzle do you use when you're not using the surface cleaner? Great work by the way.
Standard jets on the fsc are usually 25degree. My pressure washer is 3000psi, 21lpm but I use it on reduced when cleaning roofs.😃👍🏼
@@aemackintosh blimey! I’ve just ordered mine with 40 tips for our first pressure washing roof job at the end of the month (been scraping and spraying until now).
Rutland have been super helpful, you should totally reach out to them for a sponsorship.
Hi Ashley, I have a 4000 PSI machine at 15.2 LPM. I’m about to purchase the 12 inch Mossmatic and I have everything else you’re using here. Would you suggest I get the orifice sizes to bring this down to 3000 PSI for this setup for cleaning tile roofs with a high ridge?
I really want todo this but i read to many comments saying it damages the tile. Stripping them back and making them brittle.
Any thoughts on this as im keen to get one of these.
It really depends on the type of tiles on the roof, but I find that the vast majority of tiles are totally up to it and are able to be cleaned with this. I also reduce the pressure a little to be more gentle on the roof.👍🏼
Hi, great video!! Are some customers weary of having pressure washing done on roofs because of leaks? Cracked tiles and vents.. or is this not a problem really?
It can dislodge loose mortar or cracked tiles, but these are is that should be addressed anyway. It is low pressure, so it won’t cause damage but not all tiles will be robust enough for this method.😃👍🏼
Thanku for the reply. That makes complete sense! The customers who would want this kind of work done would be those who would want any issues on roof fixed anyway..
Roof cleaning ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I have just bought the whirlaway 14' plate with rutland pole, i have a 1/4 quick release that attaches to the plate and the pole has m22 female outlet, im struggling to find a coupling that connects the 2. It would need to be m22 male thread to half inch female thread. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
The best thing would probably be to speak to the people at Rutland Pumps, they will be able to help you connect the two. You might just need the right adapter.👍🏼
Hi ash do you think that kit would fit in a ova8 or would it take some modifying?
Possibly? It would probably need some modification. Also, I don’t think that pole is quite as rigid.
Hi...iv got question...what kind of liquid you use to spray roof after cleaning....to deal with white small spots....many thx
I use AlgoClear biocide after cleaning.😃👍🏼
Hey guys, I really need this conversion kit. I’m out here in Southern California in the states and I can’t find anything close I also check the vendors you mentioned, and no one is shipping to the United States. If there’s any way you can help me I would greatly appreciate it.
Hey how's it going. I call Heuler. I'm entering this area, I would like to know what price you charged for this work. Please
Great video Ashley how is Paul getting on. You could use a foot switch then you don't have to have the trigger mounted on the pole so you could use it as both waterfed and pressure washing pole
Not sure what I think about that? Sounds good but then I wouldn’t be able to move my foot without taking my foot off the trigger.😬👍🏼
Interesting idea on the foot switch - how would you do it?
@@colonynaut1627 your pressure washer goes to a foot switch then out of there with a hose through your pole.It just means you can use your pole for pressure washing and waterfed pole window cleaning. If you mount a trigger on the pole you can only really do pressure washing with it.The foot switches aren't cheap though look at q washers on CZcams Damien has videos on the subject and can supply everything you need also AC pressure washers do kits dependent on the length of your pole. But as Ashley said you would need a really good hi-mod pole though like ova8 or supermax 3k
@@LancashireProClean Interesting, thanks!
Hello from Germany, thank you for your great Video. We also use the Unger Hi-Mod for windowcleaning. Can you give us a link where we can buy the Equipment for Highpressure cleaning with mosmatic and Unger?!
Rutland Pumps in the UK.👍🏼
how much pressure do you use to clean a roof?
I really enjoy your videos and motivating me to start this business
I use much less pressure on a roof than I would on paving. I just lower the revs slightly.😃👍🏼
Great video, however unger hi mod carbon fibre poles are very expensive, could advise on a suitable cheaper pole please? Thanks again for your great videos💯
You might want to check out the Gardiner Super Max which are also hi mod. They are more expensive poles but you will appreciate it when you have it fully extended up a room with the tool on the end.😃👍🏼
@@aemackintosh thank you very much for your speedy reply, will look now 😀 👌
Hi Ashley, what tiles can you pressure wash and those you have to scrape
Concrete tiles are usually ok to pressure wash with low pressure. But you need to check the roof is in good condition. You shouldn’t use this method if the roof is delicate in any way or the tiles have a coating that could be washed away.
Hi mate, how to do you compare the unger hi mod poles to the hi mod gardiner poles would you say they are stiffer? Also does the adapter just fit straight into the unger pole? I thought that the Unger poles are an oval design but the adapter looked round. Many Thanks, Tom
This is the older version of the Unger nLite, when it was round. I haven’t used the Gardiner hi-max, but yes, that would be a solid choice for sure.👍🏼
Hi ash, I’m wanting to add roof cleaning to my external cleaning business. I was told not to use a flat surface cleaner because water can get under the tiles and into the loft ?
Interesting. Who told you that? I use a slightly reduced pressure and I find it a great way to clean the roof evenly. But I wouldn’t use it on every roof.
@@aemackintosh I seen it on a page, so I’m guessing you’ve had no problems. I’ve got a 7.2m telescopic pole and a 12inch whirlaway in my basket. I’ll be running it off a Honda gx 390 15lpm but like you say I’ll put the pressure down a tad!
There are some haters out there, but once you start doing it that way you will wonder why. Keep in touch, I would love to hear how you get on.👍🏼
What’s the psi that you use and the tips than you use on round cleaner
I use 15degree jets and it se it with reduced pressure from the machine. I keep the revs below about half way.👍🏼
What would be a safe pressure to remove moss ect from a roof .... 1000psi or less. There must be a sweat spot when debris can be removed without damaging the tiles ect.
Yes, exactly. Pressure washing power is actually measured by a combination of psi and litres per minute of water used. But there is a balance of the amount of force needed to clean the surface. I think you get a feel for it and it can vary from job to job depending on the type of tile and how dirty it is.👍🏼
