Whatever the interventionists will argue, two decades of “nation-building” and counterinsurgency have been defined by corruption, incompetence and self-delusion. As we have seen in recent days, confronting that truth was always going to be ugly. But that doesn’t make it any less true.

      Goes to show that you can't change a system and culture from the outside. Such change has to happen from the inside and it has to begin with a change in the people and then be followed by a change in the system afterwards, not the other way around.

Did the US trained them well? What resources did the US gave to the Afghan govt? As we all know US has the most sophisticated and advanced military training and program in the world? Why did this happened? If a military man has the right training and equipment, he should have the courage to fight the enemies. And why did this has been in chaos for 20 long years? Its the US that is supposed to know if the training of the soldiers of the Afghan govt is doing well. How about the intelligence capability of US? Did they research the whole complex culture of Afghanistan or the capabilities of the enemies?

Any soldier who refused order or ran away from battle was decimated (every 10th soldier in line is killed). never once did Roman army surrender or flee and was a model of terror and discipline as soldiers feared their commanders. Taliban is nothing but a more brutal and more organized terrorist group.

They are so committed that they volunteer to fight and give all they have to the missions! Most of their fighters are tribals from the mountains!

    The sheer amount of weapons and military equipment that the Taliban now have is astounding, not just from the Americans but also from India. The Indians spent billions in Afghanistan and their military planes were seen offloading tons of weapons and ammunition recently in an attempt to destabilize the country; all that is now in the hands of the Taliban. I hope they learn now to stop interfering in Afghanistan and stop their proxy war against Pakistan. ✌🏽

    The same thing may happen again in Afghanistan after the US leaves. The Communist took over Phnom Phen and South Vietnam then the Killing Field happened in Cambodia in 1975. Many freedom fighters were killed, perished and persecuted nearly 4 years. The world stranded silently until the regime collapsed. I hope and pray for Afghani not to face same outcome as Cambodians over 50 years a go.

      Sri Lanka had Tamil insurgency which was supported from India. It was Tamil tigers supported by India who first started using suicide bombers.
      Thankfully SriLanka was able to finish the Tamil terrorism.

Srilankan Tamil tigers started fighting with Sinhala majority government cos of oppression, discrimination, unfair treatment of ethinic minorities after independence from british.
