4 Ducks - Public Land Opening Day in Arkansas

  • Without abundant access to private property, like many other public land duck hunters, Dennis Loosier and Billy Campbell spend the majority of their waterfowl season scouting and searching for mallards.
    Many see the positive results now when shared through social media but unless you do it, you probably don’t understand the work that goes in to achieve those successes.
    These guys are committed to sharing the story of the public land guys, the variables encountered and the work it takes to find ducks, even if it’s just four ducks.

    I’m amazed by the amount of gun shots at shooting light. Y’all are blessed with a great amount of public land, we have almost nothing here in Ohio. Most of it is lottery draws that only happen 2 days a week and if you don’t draw a good spot you’re out. I’ve had to sit through a draw where the last guy in the door never scouted and picks the best zone while I put in miles and hours the day before. It’s tough work but when it all comes together it’s the greatest feeling ever as a duck hunter. This is my first season and the ADDICTION is real, I’ve just about given up deer hunting because of duck hunting.

    Man that was fun to watch. SW MO. hunter here and one thing I've come to terms with is from doves to ducks if you're gonna hunt public land you better get used to hunting next to someone. Be respectful,be helpful and enjoy the competition. Hell, I like the challenge of pulling the birds to me with the call as much as the shooting. BTW,that driving through the timber was next fkn level.

    And this, this right here, is why it's hard to get new folks into hunting.
    You guys are fantastic duck hunters, and work damn hard to find success, but that public land free-for-all seems to be a damn mess waiting for a big problem to happen. I'd love to hunt the flooded timber, but don't think it's worth the fight.

    • @thefowlhunter
      @thefowlhunter Před 5 lety +1

      haha thanks for the kind words Rob but opening weekend is a worst case situation and we were in a popular spot on which a lot of other public hunters did their homework and found too. don't let this run you off buddy. you typically have more birds and less hunters later in the season and some great opportunities in the timber. also lots of great public land options that aren't near as popular! hope you had a great hunting season!

      Literally noone has ever died in a race. As a matter of fact the old races kept the crowds out and were alot more civil compared to today's "races". When they emplimited the no pass rule that's when it got real bad. The end of timber duck hunting in the bottoms is in the very near future.

    • @thefowlhunter
      @thefowlhunter Před 5 lety +1

      thankful for the input Zac, appreciate you! not sure about a slick move, parking the boats a bit away from the hole is pretty common and we were tucking them in thick brush, not a hole. sorry for any confusion there, wasn't much editing going on there. now if you can show up late and ease in to the hole while someone was hiding their boat after setting up, that would definitely be a slick move! thanks again!

I'd certainly hope you realise that fact/truth/reality seeing as tis just basic common sense........similar to the FACT that out of state hunters (predominately out of state duck hunters) generate tons of revenue into OUR home state which WE wouldn't ever recieve otherwise correct? Again.....I'd sure hope you realised this much because if not then tis clear you completely lack any basic common sense whatsoever and therefore.....YOU are exactly what's wrong with OUR state and furthermore......perhaps YOU shouldn't be hunting OUR state or ANY state for that matter if you seriously don't possess any more common sense than your comment makes? But seriously though........I suppose WE U.S. citizens should ALL stop hunting the Canadians' ducks and start hunting OUR own according to YOUR logic!!
