I had (and still have) a book about these horses and its what started my love for horses. Since then I have been in the Special Olympics for a few years in a row and met some wonderful people along the way. Thank you Lipizzaners and the riders! I'm mesmerized every time I see them perform❤

In 2007, and then I think 2009, we had the pleasure of boarding the World Famous Lipps at our barn in Hanmer, Ontario. It was a pleasure to go watch the show in Sudbury, and then it was so much more exciting to go back to the barn and await the arrival of our royal guests for the night! All boarders were kicked out for the night, all stalls got 2 bags of new shavings, everything majorly washed down for our royal guests. Every stallion (and gelding) had his own 12 x 12 stall for that restful night. It was a major night on their tour to just not have to be in their trailer every night. They got to lie down, stretch out, separated from each other.A good rest for them, although it was only 12 hours. All of the horses, when I came back in the morning to feed, were still laying down and just loving the pampering. All their grooms and staff weren't there when I got to work in the morning, so I got to do some major loving with those beautiful horses as I was the first to say good morning to them. I got to give them their hay, already provided. I filled their water buckets. I got to tussle their forelocks as they were still laying down. I just got to give them a few moments of being a horse before they got back on the trailer. In that early morning moment, when every show horse was just a horse wanting his morning feed, there was no difference between these horses and the horses who would have normally occupied those stalls. A horse is a horse.

      Americans love animals so much.
It's a mystery to me why they protect dogs, cats, and horses, and kill the poor merciful cows, just to taste blood and flesh.
Mother cow gives milk, (transformed blood), so she and father bull also must be cared for with kindness and compassion as well as all God's creatures.
My father took my family to Vienna when I was 12. It's a beautiful city. I stopped eating animals and chicken menstruation (eggs) a long time ago. It's too cruel to think about slaughterhouses, and I pray for the day all animals are truly loved and respected.
      God bless.

Not many will devote that kind of time. This breed deserves to be recognized...they deserve it. They are beautiful and graceful.

Gorgeous horses - I lived in Vienna for 6 months and visited their stables, training and shows on Kartner Strasser. Stables were accross the street from collesium where about 20 white stallions were stabled. Stable and training sessions were free and I visited them several times. However, I think the best performance I recall was in a gymnasium in Savannah, Georgia in 1970.

Lippizaners are actually gray horses. The young stallion is about halfway through his color change, probably around 6 or 7 years old. Grays get progressively lighter as they age. Sometimes they have a bay or black stallion in their shows, and it's considered lucky to have one that stays dark.

I've been to the breeding facility in Piber, Austria. Trust me, these horses are definitely NOT abused. Their stalls are immaculate, they get plenty of turnout with beautiful, lush pastures for grazing, there are people there who attend to their every need. Did you know that they only have one rider? If that rider dies or retires, the horse is also retired. No other rider uses that horse (I'm talking about the Spanish riding school horses in Austria, not the touring horses of North America.)

You lucky thing, watching this will quench your appetite. If you read The Perfect Horse, you'll lose 10 lb just over the nerve of almost losing them

I've never seen horses do things like this before. My girlfriend was a horse trainer at one time, and turned me to this rare breed. I have to say I am very impressed and would very much like to see this show the next time it is in or near Ga.

The two men at the beginning are a perfect example of what to do and what not to do side by side. You have one horse enjoying his job and another in pain because his rider has hard hands, pulling him behind the bit.
