My 2 brothers and I grew up on a farm. We had this huge wraparound porch with 3 porch swings and several chairs. My dad would let us sleep out on the porch during a rainstorm, as long as there wasn't a lot of lightning. we would all get our sleeping bags and head for a swing. The wind would keep the swing moving and the rain lulled us to sleep. We never knew until we were grown how mom and dad both would sleep in the living room so they could see out the windows to watch us. Growing up in a town of less than 400 people, there was no crime and those were literally, the best days of my life. This sound definitely takes me back. Thank you!

I was raised on the grounds of the oldest military academy in the US, a place called The Nazareth Hall Military Academy. It was first founded in the 1750s by the Moravian Church as part of a religious “commune”, by a group of Christian Zealots who came to PA. seeking religious freedom. 🇺🇸. By the Revolutionary War it had been turned into a military academy (against the will of the town’s Church Fathers). But by then a farm had already been built on site to grow food for everybody, including a Very Large Orchard with all kinds of fruit and nut trees. They had also built a Magnificent 2 story Hand-Hewn Stone Farm House on site which provided housing for whoever was managing the farm at the time as well as several barns and other outbuildings here and there around the property. But by the early 1900s the military academy had closed and the entire site was redeveloped into housing, mostly for senior members of our town. However because my grandfather had been the contractor to do most of the renovation work on the property (and because small towns operate like this) our family was offered The Farm House to rent (for $90/mo.). Naturally my Dad said yes to this offer.
In addition to the “truck farm” the Moravians had built in the 1700s what was called the Pleasure Gardens adjacent to the “Academy”, an approximately 200 acre parcel of woods on the side of a sloping hill with a spring that flowed into a little stream in its midst. The Church Fathers had built a trail along the stream and had also placed benches and a gazebo at particularly attractive spots along the way, turning the place into a sort of Park. It was truly an Idyllic Location.
This was where I was raised. We were the only kids (my sister and me) living in the center of the only remaining portion of the original settlement in our area, in a 2 story stone farm house in the middle of a 250 yr. old orchard. With 5 different varieties of apple trees, 2 different pear trees, at least 3 different varieties of cherries, 2 Large grape arbors, plus 2 big beautiful, still-bearing English Walnuts, a Huge Mulberry tree, a Horse Chestnut tree that still produced, 4-5 very large sprawling European Beech trees, 2 huge Dutch Elms (which alas, went the way of every other Dutch Elm on the E Coast not long thereafter), and several Hickory and Linden trees, a few different Oaks, Eastern Rock Maple, Red Maple, and other softwood species like Locust and Gum, as well as other ornamental shrubs like Yew and Juniper plus a virtual forest of Large Adult Boxwood Trees (I still have yet to see another example of Boxwoods like those (Still in 2023) growing in Nazareth. And I forgot the conifers; pine, fir, spruce and hemlock.
I suppose being raised in this Virtual Paradise as I was is partly what caused me to, later in life, resonate with these recorded sounds of Nature. I don’t, as it seems like most people do, listen to these Ambient Environmental Musical Loops to help me get to sleep; I don’t have a problem with getting to sleep. I listen to this stuff because, living in the City, I miss my former life in the Country, in the Woods. I used to just drive out to some remote spot and just Wander off into the trackless wilderness or along a small creek, etc. and when I had finally tired of this would find a nice spot and sit down

I might not visit the sea everyday but I know she is there, I can hear her, see the sea-fog rolling in, hear the seagull’s, smell the salt in the air. I think the sea is in my vein’s, I couldn’t live without her, even at night I play these sounds so that I can be as close to her as possible. @@desertmoon2158 The waves are lighter than the surrounding water because the light has less water to travel through. The water surrounding the waves is deep. The waves are thin in comparison. It looks like this in real life-I've been there.
