I dont think Cathy loved Chris
At least not in the books, it seemed she loved anyone that wanted her
I think she loved him, she just wished she didn't because she thought it was wrong and that it meant something was wrong with them.

But i read the third book and she says a lot of mean things to him. Of how he must have been happy that julius and paul died, that she wanted to be happy with paul and ended up with him…i dont know, i dont really like Cathy lol she is so confuded, and the love i saw and comprehend on first book, didnt see anymore : /
@@Manuela2873 She is a difficult character to understand, that's for sure, and I have to admit that I like her WAY more in the movies than in the books... I think her behavior in those is mainly due to her taking her self hatred out on him... but I definitely agree that it's hard to take, which is probably why the movies (thankfully) took it out.
I believe she loved him, but she had Daddy Issues and an almost pathological deep-seated need for a mate who would be her rock and take care of her. I think she was truly terrified of being without that. If there were other men in her life who would fill that need for her after Paul died, I feel she would've been with them because the stigma of the very strong sexual attraction she and Chris felt for each other was too much for her to overcome... until she ran out of options and there was only Chris left. So she turned to him. From what I read in the third book "If There Be Thorns", once she stopped fighting her feelings for him, she lost whatever inhibitions she had, giving herself completely over to him and they couldn't keep their hands off each other. They did grow old together and stayed with each other until Chris died in the fourth book "Seeds of Yesterday". She withered away and died pretty quickly after that.
Cathy was tempestuous, passionate and hot-headed - both in her actions and verbal arguments. All of her love affairs were extremely toxic. You have 1. her brother, 2. her much older adoptive father/guardian, 3. an abusive narcissist who beat her, and 4. her mother's husband. She's very psychologically damaged and obviously we understand why. I think instead of continuing on to find more inappropriate men, she defaulted back to Chris because he balanced her - he is her cool, level-headed counterpoint, and probably the only man she felt safe with who loved her unconditionally, despite her many flaws and issues. Plus she had that black-widow complex about men who loved her dying, so... maybe she didn't want to drag someone else into their mess. I think she loved Chris, but also felt darkly fated to be with him and gave in.
So did they end up together?
Yes until death do them part.
