No I have 3 of these for all my chickens and it is not large enough for a large dog, maybe a small dog. It can't be used with an app but you can set it for dusk/dawn or time when you want it to open and when you want it to close once a day for each. I have a video of it as well but this video is pretty nice
How does the locking mechanism release to get the door up? I’m interested in one of these doors, but its one of the more expensive ones. So I want to make sure it’s worth the $$. There is lots of variety of openers and doors, but this is the only locking one.

That black post that sticks out the top, when you pull on it, it slightly extends out which pulls the locks in. You can see it at 5:05
