The message of the video (what I thought) is basically self-love, something Ari’s recent music has revolved around a lot. The other girl in this video was dressed up to resemble Ari. Ari says “break up with ur girlfriend” to the other guy as a way to say “break up with me, I wanna be by myself and focus on myself” so the kiss at the end was her way of showing self-love, Ariana kissing Ariana :)

this is my theory that i just came up with so bear with me lol, i think that the other girl who looks likes ariana is representing ariana when she was with pete davidson (hence why the girl had that hairstyle with the clips bc that was the look ariana wore a lot during that time when she was with pete) and the guy is representing Pete. The song is basically telling pete to break u w her because ariana wants the girl (whos actually just a representation of herself but when she wasn't happy in the relationship). It kinda links to the song NASA that ariana had earlier on in her new album called 'thank u, next' where shes talking about needing space from her partner. Also, in the song ghostin, shes talking about someone who is with a person but feels bad for them as they wanna be with someone else (or is thinking about someone else) that song is rumoured to be about mac miller and pete davidson ( ari being wih pete but was still thinking and crying about mac) so overall i think shes just saying in this song and music video that she wants to love herself and get out of the relationship bc shes not ready or isnt happy in it. Im not saying she wasn't happy with pete bc she clearly was but when u read the lyrics off of her new album, its pretty clear that she wasn't entirely happy with her relationship with pete near the end which is probably why they broke the engagement off. anyway that was my fkn long theory on it that noone asked or cared about im sorry lol great video btw
