Quinta da Conceição is a public park located in the parish of Leça da Palmeira, in the municipality of Matosinhos, district of Porto. Initially, the site was the facilities of the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Conceição of the Order of São Francisco, which arrived there in 1481. With the extinction of the religious orders, the friars abandoned the Convent, and it was sold at public auction in 1837, for six contos, to Manuel Guimaraes.
Currently, the old convent cloister is still visible, some fountains, a Manueline-style portal (which belonged to the convent church) and the chapel of São Francisco, where Friar João da Póvoa is buried.
In addition to leafy avenues, it has an excellent swimming pool and two tennis courts. As a sign of its former condition, it still preserves some well-carved granite fountains and a graceful 18th-century chapel.
It comprises several types of spaces, with woods (oak and eucalyptus) and grassy areas, areas contained by boxwood hedges, at different levels, connected by paths. It has several decorative elements such as porticoes, stone benches, statuettes, columns, a snack table, a cross with an image of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, Chapel, water tank with uneven levels, fountain and fountain.
Initially called Quinta da Granja, it was the property chosen by the Franciscan Friars, in the last quarter of the 15th century, for the installation of their new Convent, dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Conceição (image that would give the name to the Quinta), after they had abandoned the Convent of S. Clemente das Penhas (Boa-Nova) due to the harsh climate typical of the proximity to the sea.
In the 20th century, Quinta da Conceição was granted to the Administration of the Ports of Douro and Leixões. In 1956, the remaining property was leased by the Tourism Commission of the Municipality of Matosinhos for the creation of “Parque da Vila”, undergoing improvements designed by the architect Fernando Távora during the 1960s, when a tennis court and a swimming pool were built, it was designed by the architect Álvaro Siza Vieira.

De facto é!! Bom dia!! É um pequeno parque escondido ao lado do porto de Leixões. É bom para levar as crianças a dar uma volta e parece que dá para nos abstrairmos um pouco do resto de fora 😎 mesmo ao lado vai começar o Senhor de Matosinhos que espero fazer um vídeo em breve! Que lugar lindo! Essas estruturas em pedra (chafariz, portal, etc..) são muito interessantes. Foi ótimo vc ter escrito a história do lugar na descrição do vídeo. Este é um local que quero conhecer quando voltar ao Porto! Devo ter passado por esse parque quando fui à Praia da Memória, mas não sabia que existia um local tão bonito aí. Grata pelas imagens!
É bastante discreto. Só quem olha mesmo de passagem é que sabe porque não está marcado com indicações. Além disso, a forma de chegar é bastante peculiar 😁 há uns túneis debaixo da estrada que se passa para aceder a uma das entradas. Fiquei contente que tivesses gostado! É um lugar multifacetado, há de tudo, para fazer um piquenique, passear com as crianças, animais, relaxar - também gosto imenso 😋 Bom fim-de-semana para aí e obrigado🙌
